    I've been using a similar drill using a tape measure, putting balls starting from 3 feet and extending outward in 1 foot increments until I miss, in which case I start again at 3 feet. It is amazing to see how many balls you can hole out using this approach. Great for confidence. So far, my best is 12 feet.
    It helped me discover that I consistently pull my putts - not due to club-head path but from hand and/or arm action.

    I used to compete in the Professional Putters Association back in the days of Jeff Estep. I used to putt ricochet shots with 3 golf balls on a 6 X 12 foot snooker table standing on it. That's how I practiced.

    Thanks Pete, I have always struggled with my takeaway and the perfect swing path. So I prefer the pop putting method as described by Pete Cowen .( apparently used by Snedeker ).

    This is a great putting drill. I am not usually confident on these length of putts, the next time I am practising my putting I will definitely use this method. I will then see where my stroke is not working and immediately correct it.

    I remember playing that course in gale force winds. It was a 36 hole Northern order of merit tournament. Winds were almost moving the ball on the green. Great course if it is not windy. Just down the road from Blackpool tower - so a great view too.

    Great drill for refining the putting stroke and ensuring square contact with the ball. The drill also appears to help with proper alignment during the set up.

  • @moergolf9275
    @moergolf9275 8 років тому +2

    I guess you could use either side of the alignment stick but I mainly see Jordan using it from the inside... Meaning when he lines up to the alignment stick, the heel of the putter is closest to it. That's how I do this drill and love it because it keeps my putter going "strait back and strait through"

    one thing that nobody ever talks about is us senior & club golfers play on greens nothing like the tour. They are generally slow to very slow. Maybe 8 on the meter. The course believes this saves the greens? So that adds up to hitting the ball harder while trying to keep a soft grip. It's a challenge.

    would adding another alignment stick to the other side of the ball help with see these errors or is it easier to see with 1 alignment stick? I do a similar drill using 2 sticks but its mainly to see if my putts are going in a straight line. Wondering if I can catch the same errors using 2 sticks in the same scenario? Thanks.

    my eyes are on the ball the whole time. So I can't see what my club is doing on the back swing. I can check it on the follow through (where it ended up) but am I doing something wrong? Should I be focusing on the putter head as I take it back? I feel like I'm going to mishit the ball if I do.

    • @hook7872
      @hook7872 8 років тому

      +pmata814 Purpose of a training prop is to acquire feel for a proper putting stroke. Jack Nicholis said that the most important thing is to keep the head as still as possible throughout the stroke. It's important also to listen (not watch) for the ball to fall into the hole especially on short putts.

    • @iMc404
      @iMc404 8 років тому

      Focus on the ball, but you should be able to tell using your peripheral vision if the club is inside or outside intended swing plane.

    5 minutes to set up Pete??? Is that including driving to the course, going to the locker room to change your shoes, getting your trolley out the trolley shed, walking to the putting green and THEN putting the alignment stick down?? If not you are definitely doing something wrong mate!
