She explains a lot of things and I'm nodding around and mumbling "oh, I see" while in reality I only play classic Tetris where the only thing I know is the long block combo. So yeah. I don't get it.
These combos would net you decent points in Tetris99, while also a good solution to the typical Tetris stacking. Every little bit helps when everyone's targeting your stack so you can become a singing loli.
The biggest thing to understand is that in PvP Tetris, there's two ways to send a lot of trash to an opponent; high value clears (T-Spin/Tetrises) or chaining (doing line clears one after another). PvP Tetris strategy concentrates on setting up the 2nd by stacking very high and then clearing all at once in a massive chain to burst down opponents with high chains (although the first category still has a lot of applications such as Back-to-Back as mentioned or specific T-Spin setups like the DT Cannon). So you want to stack in a very specific way so that you can setup a high chain. A common strategy is leaving 2 lanes open, because every Tetris block can fit in 2 columns. (Another common one is the 4-wide instead). And with the way Tetris gives you blocks, you can almost always do line clears if you do it properly, as Suisei is showing.
Because this technic is for pvp tetris, not for the classic one. Chain or 1 line clear back to back definitly useless in classic. And you dont have T spin bonus/score. 1 raw line still the best technic in classic

To add on to some of these tips, something worth mentioning is *dont get greedy* because there are so many times where you are way better off dealing with a sloppy stack from converting a tspin as compared to trying to wait until you get the T piece you need, dont be afraid to swiss cheese yourself if you would die otherwise. tbh four wide flat sections don't show up very often, it's usually better to just throw the I vertically on the edge of the stack (like what sui does). If you're paying attention to the previews you can also build a 3-deep hole intentionally if you know an I piece is coming. On the other hand just sticking an upright I piece on top of a flat stack is a bad thing to do since you can't place anything on top of that area anymore, only to either side which limits your options.
