Experimenting with style is awesome! I flip flop all the time. I grew up as an alternative scene kid and then 70's style by my senior year and after highschool i discovered the world of lolita and kawaii fashion and ive been going hard with that for years. But recently ive felt a resurgence within me for alternative fashion and im trying to bring back the 2012 pastel goth style. I love experimenting with mix pastels and black together. Fashion is so much fun!
“Some sort of deranged yarn goblin suffering from severe crochet withdrawal” Deranged Yarn Goblin-band name, I’m stealing it! For real, I hope you feel back to 100% yourself soon!!! The big bag of blue/pinky/purple would make an awesome blanket. Do a sampler blanket. Ie, use every stitch you know in sets of 10-12 +/- rows; like 10 rows hdc, 10 rows sc, 10 rows triple, 10 rows some other stitch, etc. (I’m still learning knit & crochet) till it’s long enough for a blanket. I love the Letterman (bomber) jacket idea, but do you want blue arms and a red body or red arms and blue body? I’d put your initials on it for sure!! Oh, and the red yellow green is gonna look really Rastafarian. I’d do the white stripes in between, but that’s just my opinion 😁
I would 100% go see a band called The Deranged Yarn Goblins, so steal away 😂. I'm thinking for the bomber jacket, red body and blue arms. I'm pretty sure I don't have enough of the blue to make the entire torso, so I don't want to risk it 😅.
Hope you feel better soon. I'm in a similar situation although not with a nasty infection like that. I'm just laid up with my fibromyalgia, with absolutely no spoons for anything, even crocheting.
I’m laid up with same! This It’s the worst case I’ve ever had. Just doing Diamond painting, and even that is taxing. Sending digital spoons and hugs to you! ❤
I was wondered what happened. I am delighted to see you again. I hope you get well very soon. I always enjoy your sense of humor. You are very personable.🙂
Crochet Adjacent - good idea when you are feeling less than 100% I am currently on my third Granny Hexagon cardigan - they have been for other people so far, but I will make one for me as well. Such an easy, effective idea - just start and finish when its big enough!! The Caron Cake is a lovely yarn to work with - very comfortable on the hands and really nice fabric when you have finished. If you need more, Spotlight always carries it. Feel better soon.
I completely feel you when you talked about not having a lot of experience with styling yourself ^_^ Personally, from the age of 8-9 until I was 17, I only wore black, or a dark grey (which is basically a shade of black😅) and I started experimenting a few years ago with colors (i'm 23 now) and I can say this : I have dark hair and fair skin (with the tiniest bit of tan possible) and I figured that dark colors such as forest green, night blue and burgundy/marron looked the best on me. Since you have darkish hair too, you could try to experiment with some of these colors and make a sweater or a jumper and even a scarf if you have enough yarn to make a matching set. Then it also and always comes down to what you like and what you want to/feel like doing at the moment ^_^ I noticed that you make a lot of amigurumi and other projects with a certain purple color (so maybe you like that one, just maybe I don't know😋) and you could make a piece of clothing in that color, but a bit darker than usual, or if you want to try a color that you may not be familiar with, you could try coral, salmon or even peach, these are (almost) the same color but in different shade, the coral is the darkest with more of an orange/red hue to it, then you have salmon and peach which are lighter but have different shades (depends on the brand). Sorry for the long text 😅
Great ideas and your yarns are beautiful. I hope you feel better, it's so hard being sick for so long and trying to get back from it. A cute pencil skirt made out of the variegated brown yarn with a complementary colored yarn to join the squares and make the waist band and hem would be cute 💖
1- Getting sick for any extended amount of time sucks. I got sick for a month last December with the super cold and it really sucked. Hope you can start feeling normal again soon ❤. 2- I have a similar view on fashion atm. I grew up fast and gained extra weight at that same time. Any time I saw something I remotely liked, it would be too small. Like something, too small. Too small, too small, 2-3 sizes too small. After having that on every shopping trip (which was and still is like 1-2 times a year), it just became so draining that I dreaded clothes shopping days and it became a "Does it go over my body? Good enough." It wasn't until... maybe 3 years ago that I even started having the idea of making my own clothes. Hardest part is since I'm plus sized, it's very hard to find style guide catered towards my body type. It's all just the hour glass toothpicks. Even websites like Threadup suck. I put in my measurements then they give me shirts that the bust is 12-14" (inches) too small around. I know what clothes I like to look at, but is it what I want to wear? I don't know. The main thing I'm trying to figure out is how to proportion something to make me feel even partially decent wearing it? That and I want to try and more seriously tackle getting my weight down. If this job goes through then I'll be able to afford some guidance, hopefully. If it doesn't... I think there's a bucees nearby that's hiring.
Enjoyed the stash assessment and project brainstorming video. Please do take care and take your time getting back into the swing of things. We'll be here happy to see you as you are able. Sending healing and healthy thought from Texas.
Sorry that you are going through such a rough patch. Lovely to see you back but please take all the time you need to look after you. Project wise I love the sound of the white cardigan with the coloured stripes it has a cricket jumper vibe. Also lots of people like one style to limit their choices. However when you body does the limiting all other rules go out the window! Make whatever you fancy and experiment as much as you like. Worse case is that you either give it away or it hits the frog pond 🐸 Thanks for the great video
Oh my goodness, I can understand your pain! Last year when I was 1 month away from having my baby, I got a sinus infection that had gone undetected (ignored) by doctors and then I ended up with the flu. I was in the hospital for a week while being treated for the flu, the sinus infection and bronchitis all at the same time. It was no fun, being hooked up to a respirator and a machine to monitor the baby every 30 seconds😅 that was the worse because the machine would go off if it wasn't measuring just right and the nurses kept telling me they just ignore the alarm because they knew the machine wasn't working properly 🙄 I wish I had yarn fairies to clean up my stash 😅 It's not that big to be honest, but it's also not very organized. We live in a very small space with too many kids and my bedroom is where all the "stuff" ends up. The kids' games, their clothes, their larger toys, the crayons and coloring books and random extra school supplies, my yarn, my exercise equipment from my physical therapy, the cats' beds, cats' food, and their litter boxes (just outside the bedroom, because I have the only 2 cats who are afraid of the dark😅) I am still in love with the top of the toadstool. The chest part is perfect and I have been wanting to try that out for myself. I love that you want to make different styles of clothes. Everyone likes something different, so why can't you 😂 do it all! Because you are amazing!
Omg! I can't imagine going through all that while being eight (maybe nine?) months pregnant! I seriously hope you and you're baby were okay in the end. And I'm not medical expert but I'd think you'd want potentially life saving machines in your hospital to function properly! Bloody hell lol! I kind of went the opposite route and got the flu first and then the sinus/inner ear infection but I was very fortunate that the emergency doctor was great and I started treatment straight away. I'm thinking of using some of this yarn to make a tutorial for the top portion of the toadstool dress because a few people have asked me about it :).
Feel better soon, hunny. I'm just getting over stress my lungs. Spoke to forcefully! Couldn't craft for about ten days and then only in little bouts. Drove me crazy, my hands where itching to do some crafting. Take care xxJane 🐑🌈
Hope you feel better soon! Not that it's directly related to the video, but I love seeing your little white spider in the background of every video, and I love that your sweater matches your little spider friend in this video. I love being able to match my outfits to other things I've made or can carry around. Makes me feel like a cartoon character 😂
A crocheted dungarees dress or trousers could be really cool with some wool you have lots of. Like the purple one. Then you could do a belt and the straps and cuffs of trousers in the other colour 🥰😍
Hope you feel stronger soon. I’m sick of feeling ill enough I can just about drag into work, fail at everything there and then have no energy for anything else, including eating etc. so dull! I’d rather have flu and get over it. Sympathy to you and everyone else with long drawn out woes.
100% percent agree! It's quite annoying being sick enough to feel restricted but just well enough be be annoyed by that fact lol. I hope you start feeling better soon :)
I wouldnt cut the cakes up by making granny squares - maybe try incorporating their color change? Looking at these i would make a nice medium size backpack 😊 Oh and i am wishing you a speedy recovery!! Sorry to hear it got you this bad, didnt even know it was possible
I'm glad you're feeling better! I hope that trend continues. ^-^ I'm sure I saw some grassy tones in there somewhere, I'd love to see you do some dinosaur amis with some of that yarn!
You could also make crochet granny square slippers… I made them a few years back in lots of different colours and gave them as Christmas gifts. A hat and glove set are cold ideas too ❤
Hope you feel better very soon. I was battling a severe infection a few weeks ago from a spider bite. I was becoming septic. It was very difficult to bounce back and get into the swing of things again. I’m glad you are ok though. I enjoy watching your videos even if it’s just as simple as coming up with future projects. It’s always great to see what you are going to do think or do.
I just broke my wrist a couple days ago and know I won’t be able to crochet for a bit…this has helped me with some momentum to play out some projects and attack my stash when this wrist of mine is healed. Thank you! I hope you feel better soon!
Hope you feel better soon ❤ those cake yarns I had 1 idea what you can make (if you don't want make clothing) and that's huge granny square blanket, because you use just one cake yarn to make one huge granny square blanket you don't have to weaving all ends (only first and last tail) and you don't need to change colors. So that idea only came to my mind on those yarns what you have.
hope you heal up quickly!! I am also working down my stash yarns :) I have made a good handful of knitting machine hats to get through the yarn I'm not inspired by, but I've also started on a chair cover for my office chair and a blanket for my brother. I'm holding everything double so it goes doubly fast, lol.
I’ve just finished a shorter hexi in a blue green white variegated that I thought for a moment was the same as yours. Edged in white and set to be my next summer cardi for chillier days.
I hope you are starting to feel better. I've been in the same boat. On 9/15 I was diagnosed with bronchitis with almost pneumonia. Took antibiotics and steroids started getting better and then 9/22 hit and I was not feeling well. 9/23 I was in an absolute haze most of the day early 9/24 I was rushed by ems to the ER and admitted with bacterial pneumonia and lovely covid. I finally got out on 9/28 and I think I'm finally on the mend. But the brain fog has been horrible so I can't concentrate on much including counting lol. So I feel your pain!
Sounds like you've had an awful time of it but I'm really glad to hear you're on the mend! And I hope the brain fog clears up for you soon too. It really is the worst!
@@SkeinSpider thank you so much! I hope you are taking the needed time to mend and recover! Take as long as you need. We will be here when you are ready. *virtual hugs*
Hope you feel better soon! I can completely relate to the creative frustration of not being able to craft due to illness, that's actually why I recently switched from knitting to crochet as I find that a bit easier going for me and I have LOVED watching your videos to learn and be entertained, so thank you so much for that 🙂. I did have a thought about some of your stash: you mentioned doing a lot of granny square stuff and I was wondering if you had considered mixing up the type(s) of granny squares that you are using? If you check out a channel called 'The Secret Yarnery' (I'm not affiliated in any way btw), and search on that channel for 'granny square', you will see a HUGE playlist of tutorials for lots of floral granny squares and different shapes and varieties, daisy granny squares, christmas rose granny squares (there's also a christmas stocking granny square tutorial) etc. Even if you already know how to do all of these, it still might be inspirational to check some of them out. If you haven't made them before then maybe it could be fun to try some of them (especially if you can't crochet at super speed like you usually do 😁, having to slow down to learn something new can help stave off that illness-related creative frustration - at least that has been my personal experience🤣)? Take care of yourself and I look forward to your next video, whenever you feel strong enough to upload next. Much love from Ireland😁
Thank you. And yes! I know I didn't make it clear in the video (my bad lol) but I do want to try different types of granny squares and not be using the same thing repeatedly. I appreciate the recommendation too. I'm about 90% sure I've already saved some of their granny square tutorials but I'll check their channel out just in case because it sounds like a fantastic resource.
Also Yarnutopia did 365 days of crochet granny squares a few years back. She did some amazing designs that could be used as a centre point of your item and then, of course, there is always Crystal at Bag O'Day. xxJane
Hope your better soon, new follower, and you’ve inspired me to do this! I. Have 40 of the cube boxes you have absolutely rammed full of yarn lol plus plastic boxes, and project bags 😂
As a person who is into fashion, the reason you may want to limit the number of styles/aesthetics you go for is just that is breeds a metric tonne of clothes. Every piece needs coordinates and stuff that goes with one style may not go with another. So yeah, do whatever styles, but maybe pick ones that compliment each other. LOL I speak from experience, I have to dig myself out, I have waaaaay too many clothes because of this. óᴥò۵ I hope that your illnesses clear up soon. Being down for that long is hard af.
KathleenIllustrated or Leena Norms might be good people to check out regarding how to style clothes but not be pigeon holed into a "style". Also not sure if it's available locally but vocalzone is a great lozenge for sore throats and vocalists in particular.
Love all of your ideas, you've inspired me to make myself a hexi-cardigan now. Have you ever tried colour pooling with variegated yarn? That could be something fun to try out. Hope you feel better soon lovely xx
A BEAUTIFUL yarn goblin, tho! Get well soon! This is your American-Nurse-Mum-Sorta here…drink your fluids and listen to your body and get rest! ☺️🫶🏻☺️ hugs…Lisa
Thank you and will do! :) And while I'm here I want to say thanks for all your other lovely comments as well. I'm finely able to go through some of the comment backlog and I've seen a few of yours pop up so far. Thank you for all the kind words, they're very much appreciated.
Lately I've been obsessed with mosaic crochet ever since I found out how easy it is and I've been recommending it to everyone who will listen lol why not a skirt with a pretty pattern I'm Goin to make my bf a hoodie lol I swear if I ask him about patterns or measuring him one more time he's gonna burn all my yarn
I'd quite like to see some kinda poncho or a ladies hat, the type you'd see a feather sticking out of (don't do fashion either so no idea on name) fedora/trilby possibly? Also, love your curled hair. How do you get it to look so good?!
I run into that problem a lot too, I never know the correct names or terms for "fashion things" lol. Thank you :). Mostly, I let my hair do what it wants. I do use a curl cream and some mousse but other than that....I gave up trying to tame the curls years ago.
@crochet turtle has a hexagon cardi tutorial for moss stitch instead of granny stitch. Made me wonder what other stitches would work well? Feel better soon!
Do you have or can you recommend a video or pattern for the sweater you're wearing? I love it and would love to make one. ❤Hope you enjoy your stash busting. The cakes might be good for baby blankets.
The brown variegated was giving me human side of a Faery Forest vibes. Like if you could put mushrooms or mossy tree stumps in the middle of the granny square pattern? (I don't crochet only knit so I don't know how difficult that would be)
You know how people make tea cozies, the things that cover the tea pots? I’ve been wondering if it would be possible to make cozies for mobility aids in a way where they would still be safe to use and wouldn’t be permanently attached. If there is a way it could work, that’s another accessory you’ll have at your disposal as you explore fashion 😊
I'm watching these videos while I'm knitting a sleeve for my first jacket! And I completely agree with the aesthetics thing, what if I want to change from, let's say, this style I usually have with disjointed text, a playful colour palette and is inspired by things like bubblegum bass to this other style which is more based on olden day elegance and femininity? (Also, a bit unrelated, but I also get my wool from Spotlight! Are you Australian or are you from New Zealand?)
Sorry to hear you've been so unwell, but your yarn stash really brighten my day, firstly that I'm not the only one that has yarn stashs. I tend to buy to do certain projects but by time it comes I've often forgotten which projects it was brought for...😂😂😂 Looking forward to seeing what you make, but take your time and look after yourself, speaking from someone that has also has balance and chronic pain illnesses 😘
I'm very guilty of that too! Think "I can make XYZ with this yarn," and then months (or years lol) later completely blank on what I originally bought it for. And thank you for the kind words :)
Hello. This is the first time I've seen your channel. I don't know if I missed you saying your name or not but I don't know your name would be kind of nice to know. Also your microphone is huge and I can't see your face. Anyway I enjoyed watching your video. Have a nice day
Hi and welcome, my name's Leigh :). The mic is a work in progress. It's fairly new and unfortunately the room I'm in has a pronounced echo. If the mic is not right up in my face, the audio is pretty terrible as a result. I'm hoping this'll be fixed when I can get some decent sound proofing going.
@@SkeinSpider Hi Leigh it's nice to meet you. So sorry about your microphone problem. Now that I know what is going on it shouldn't bother me anymore. I also forgot to say I love your accent. Your voice is beautiful. See you again soon I hope. Thanks for getting back to me so fast.
How do I instantly transmit all your yarn to me? It's soooo pretty and I want to do all the projects! But in all seriousness, I love your channel and it's content. I just discovered you a few weeks ago and you're already a favorite of mine. I sincerely hope your health improves, but don't worry about "content," if you can't. These casual videos are fantastic ❤
If I ever work out a way to transfer yarn instantaneously, I will let all of you know. I promise lol. And thank you so much, I'm glad you're enjoying you time here so far :).

Wishing you a speedy recovery! 💙
Hope you feel better soon ❤
You could make some granny pullover sweters
I hope you’re feeling better soon!
I’ve just done. Yarn destash. Two huge bags donated to my local CWA!
Still an insane amount to make stuff with!
hope you heal up quickly!! I am also working down my stash yarns :) I have made a good handful of knitting machine hats to get through the yarn I'm not inspired by, but I've also started on a chair cover for my office chair and a blanket for my brother. I'm holding everything double so it goes doubly fast, lol.
Hope you feel more yourself soon!
Hope you feel better soon xx
I loved this video, planning and brainstorming. ❤
Just finished granny octagon pants. Many people are turning them into overalls. 10/10⭐️ project. Do recommend.
Awesome ideas!! Looking forward to seeing them all 😊 Hopefully you're feeling better ❤
Caron cakes are lovely to work with not the cheapest but so lovely
For your granny style thing sou could do it in zigzag pattern.
She did some amazing designs that could be used as a centre point of your item and then, of course, there is always Crystal at Bag O'Day. xxJane
Im also trying to destash..... i may make baskets/project bags with some of my stash
Hope your better soon, new follower, and you’ve inspired me to do this! I. Have 40 of the cube boxes you have absolutely rammed full of yarn lol plus plastic boxes, and project bags 😂
Thank you! Happy yarn sorting...it sounds like it might take you a while ;)
As a person who is into fashion, the reason you may want to limit the number of styles/aesthetics you go for is just that is breeds a metric tonne of clothes. Every piece needs coordinates and stuff that goes with one style may not go with another. So yeah, do whatever styles, but maybe pick ones that compliment each other. LOL I speak from experience, I have to dig myself out, I have waaaaay too many clothes because of this. óᴥò۵
I hope that your illnesses clear up soon. Being down for that long is hard af.
That does make sense, thanks for sharing 🙂.
Not me watching with my three projects and six skeins of yarn in my stash... 😂😂😂
I haven't tried that before but you're right, could be a bit of fun to give it a go.
And thank you 💙
A BEAUTIFUL yarn goblin, tho! Get well soon! This is your American-Nurse-Mum-Sorta here…drink your fluids and listen to your body and get rest! ☺️🫶🏻☺️ hugs…Lisa
Thank you and will do! :)
And while I'm here I want to say thanks for all your other lovely comments as well. I'm finely able to go through some of the comment backlog and I've seen a few of yours pop up so far. Thank you for all the kind words, they're very much appreciated.
The purple/blue varigated.... I immediately thought of a pinafore.
Always love your videos!
I do use a curl cream and some mousse but other than that....I gave up trying to tame the curls years ago.
watching this video while working on a stashbusting project lol
Love planning out my next projects!
Please make sure to rest up well and fully❤ we don't want any ME/cfs, long covid shenanigans here.
Absolutely, I would very much like to avoid any and all shenanigans involving chronic fatigue lol :).
The 4th lot of yarn in your stash have you seen the mirror jacket by SilviaHappyHobby, you might like to consider it. 😊
I'm not familiar with that but I'll check it out.
Sure can, it's my own design 😉. You should be able to find it on my channel.
@@SkeinSpider awesome! I'll look again. Thank you❤️
The brown variegated was giving me human side of a Faery Forest vibes. Like if you could put mushrooms or mossy tree stumps in the middle of the granny square pattern? (I don't crochet only knit so I don't know how difficult that would be)
I have no idea how difficult that would be either but I'd love to find out because that honestly sounds amazing! Thank you for the wonderful idea :).
You know how people make tea cozies, the things that cover the tea pots? I’ve been wondering if it would be possible to make cozies for mobility aids in a way where they would still be safe to use and wouldn’t be permanently attached. If there is a way it could work, that’s another accessory you’ll have at your disposal as you explore fashion 😊
you should make a yarn fairy amigurumi xD
In General your hair style and skin tone giving me dark gothic style. Why dont You Crochet a dark Gothic dress?
I literally just saved some inspo pics for a gothic corset! I could totally make a matching dress (well, I could try lol).
Take care, make your recovery priority.
I love your jumper! Is it one you made?
Thank you 🙂. Yeah, it's one I made in a video a couple of months back.
❤❤❤
Sorry to hear you've been so unwell, but your yarn stash really brighten my day, firstly that I'm not the only one that has yarn stashs.
I tend to buy to do certain projects but by time it comes I've often forgotten which projects it was brought for...😂😂😂
Looking forward to seeing what you make, but take your time and look after yourself, speaking from someone that has also has balance and chronic pain illnesses 😘
I'm very guilty of that too! Think "I can make XYZ with this yarn," and then months (or years lol) later completely blank on what I originally bought it for.
And thank you for the kind words :)
granny skirt?
I actually really like the top you're wearing. Is it one of your creations? 😊
Yeah, there's a tutorial for it too if you're interested in making your own.
@SkeinSpider thanks, I'll have to check it out 😊
Where is the pattern for the sweater that you are wearing?
It's on my channel.
Hello. This is the first time I've seen your channel. I don't know if I missed you saying your name or not but I don't know your name would be kind of nice to know. Also your microphone is huge and I can't see your face. Anyway I enjoyed watching your video. Have a nice day
Her name is Leigh 😊
