Oh man I need to learn how to solder for a couple of upcoming builds too... I thought it was meant to be easy 😵

Practice makes perfect haha, I'm sure you'll do better than my first attempt.

Might I say that while soldering in individual switches is faster/less time consuming, if you’re willing to work a little harder, mill-maxing soldered PCBs is a really great way to get the layout you want with the future convenience of hotswap. That said, you definitely want to start with an unused PCB, and you want to be mindful that you don’t use the longer mill max sockets if you don’t have the clearance for them. I also wouldn’t recommend mill-maxing if you want a half plate (or plateless) config.

Interesting, I had heard of millmax sockets before but never thought about potential clearance issues. Luckily hotswap has come such a long way in recent times. That being said soldering was pretty fun and if you don't plan on swapping switches out often its a good option, usually a little cheaper than hotswap pcbs too.

@@dill-keebsabsolutely, seems there’s far more hotswap options now than when I entered the hobby maybe 3 years ago or so. The low profile mill max sockets are also fairly expensive (I’ve never purchased for cheaper than $0.20/socket), but from what I’ve read, they’re also more durable than traditional kailh-style hotswap sockets. I’m certainly really grateful for more hotswap options and the increased accessibility it brings to the hobby!

Soldering was never hard for me. But desoldering makes me want to pull my hair out. Now I know why people buy extra PCBs and plates 😩

Legitt! Just when I thought I had it all together I had to desolder 💀💀💀. And I thought lubing and building stabs was the worst part 😂
