We drafted well this year for once in the last decade. Please for the love of god do not deal those young guys that could be future all stars for us for “win now” mentality. Develop them, trust in their ability and let’s get some wins.

You don’t know the context or conversations behind closed doors. IDK who you could possibly make a trade with that works. Brooklyn said no to Bridges, Pascal said no because he loves Toronto and at end of contract we’d lose him to free agency and there simply wasn’t much else out there. I prefer Sharpe at the 2 or 3. Ant will get traded for a Big. If we can’t get a good player and 4 1st rounders then it’s not worth having 10 years of losing games in Portland. At the end of the day, It’s a business. I don’t see the Blazers beating most West Coast teams without players having chemistry in one season. It took Denver 4 plus seasons with Jamaal and Jokic. Not trading the third pick was a business decision, nothing personal when it comes to dames wishes but there’s not a world where that pick getting traded was leading to a ring. Mad props for not settling on a trade and doubling down on young players with bright futures.
Bingo - trading it doesn’t move the needle at all. The best outcome is that Scoot develops quickly and helps Dame win it.

@@PsychItsMikewe aren’t mad about keeping the kick we are mad that because for the last 3 years he has promised and not delivered but I hurt this team with the trades he’s made. This is one of the things he said he would do. Meanwhile you have phoenix and Boston fleecing teams with no assets. Saying there was not enough value was just an excuse and says that scoot didn’t have value in him like we thought he did. We are mad that we basically drafted Dames replacement which means either he or Ant has to go. There isn’t room for all of them to play.
Joe, whether or not you can get a Ring in this market you are doing great! People always want the impossible and there’s like 25 teams in the league right now that could win a championship. As a fan I’m SUPER happy to have a team that will not only be really fun to watch (I’ll be at no less than 5 games this year!!!) but this team will certainly DOMINATE for stretches in the regular season not to mention probably CRUSHING the Summer League (again)

People will promise to try to do a lot of things in life but when those things don't happen the way we want, we can't just say that no one tried or that they are a failure.
I don’t believe that Joe Cronin is capable of being an effective GM in this league. It’s become more and more apparent from his trades, signings and press conferences that the most natural role for him is (and always has been) as a player scout.

A good GM stands up and makes unpopular choices. Fans love GM's after their team wins a championship, and after they make popular bad trades. Most good GM's are not popular because the right choices are not sexy or popular. Drafting Scoot Henderson, not trading him, is the smart move. The only GM that can be smart and popular is the one that wins a championship. This is the first time Cronin looks smart. I'm not judging that he has been stupid. I'm just observing that the honeymoon is over and Cronin made the right choice.

I love that we made the pic. I have been stressing for the last couple of weeks that we were gonna cave to peer pressure and create a trade that was not best suited for what we had to offer. That being said I love this roster of young guys. I do see it as a building team more than a win now team. We can not try and walk both paths, it will blow up in our face. We actually started down this path a couple years ago when we traded away all our talent to the Pelicans and Clippers. It got us Shaedon last year at 7 and Scoot this year at 3. Those are 2 great building blocks for our Blazers. Who says "we can't have nice things"? That's said, people have suggested that we trade Anfernee Simon's to get rid of the log jam? Well that's ludicrous to me. Simons was our 1st piece we got to help with the future of this team. He's developed into a solid player with a very high ceiling. We can see the future is great for him, why would we want to give that to someone else? So they can enjoy our nice things? Does anybody remember our Jermaine O'Neill and what happened when he went to Indiana Pacers? That said, it makes better sense to trade Dame. As much as we all love, value and appreciate everything he's done for this organization. All the memories and incredible performances we were blessed to witness from Dame dolla. It's with tears in my eyes I must admit it's time to send Dame to win a championship with a contender, which is something we will likely not be in the near future. However, it can be a win-win for all of us cause In return for the trade, we could receive some more young studs and picks to help further our growth that will help us in years to come. Scoot and Kris Murray will play exactly like fox and his twin brother. Kris is a better defender than his brother and more athletic believe it or not. What a steal

Its that after bold faced lying to the fanbase in almost every on camera statement the last 18 months that they are building to win with DAME and seemingly every move they made hasnt brought in the assets needed to give DEFENSIVE SIZE AT THE WING, PF, and C postional depth THROUGH TRADES THE LAST 18 MONTHS. Now Portland has to rely on Nurkic, Eubanks, Watford, and Maybe Grant (if he even wants to resign) as our big rotation... again! AGAIN?!?! This is the same GM who on day ONE press conference said we need to get BIGGER and LOOOOONGER to build around Dame. Remember those words JOE? DO YA? I guess I'll give Cronin props for facing these bullets but I'll just say this: If Dame asks out in the next couple of weeks there will be a lot of saving face from both sides. I choose Dame. I'll gratefully eat crow if Scoot/Sharpe win a chip but after seeing Drexler leave and win a ring elsewhere, It sickens me to death to think of talent squandered in middle constructions over the last 30 years of me watching this team.

Man I agree with you, it would be very hard for me to see Dame being champion in another corner not being PORTLAND. At the same time I want to see him champion, even if it's not in Portland I don't want to see my idol Compared to Iverson, CP3... Dame is my favorite player, he took me out of my worst phase he deserves better if not here.
Joe made the right move in picking Scoot. And I'm a huge fan of the other 2 picks as well. With that said I hope he is able to make some other moves that make Dane happy and build a contender around him. But if that's not possible then I hope Joe will identify the best trade possible for both Portland and Dame to be able to compete for a championship. I would have been absolutely pissed if Joe allowed himself and us to get fleeced on the #3 for a player we cant afford to just make Dame happy. There is a very line line that has to be walked here and they didn't help themselves with the comments they made at the end of the year. Especially Dame with the route that isnt his. I think that Cronin did the right thing under the circumstances. I’m happy that Brooklyn rejected #3 + Ant for Bridges because, although it might have made Dame temporarily happy, would have been an overpay. I still expect Ant to be traded for a starting wing, not because I dislike Ant at all, just that it would solve the logjam at guard the team currently has. Blazers could have an amazing three-guard rotation next year with Dame and Shaedon starting and Scoot coming off the bench.

@@gregbors8364 no it’s not lol dame can be traded July 9th also the free agent day is next Friday I think so it’s only started but a lot of moves can be made still. Also scoot can be traded except if they give him a contract they have to eat 30days first

I'm not mad about the draft, but you can't say we need to get bigger after the season and now say size doesn't matter. We need some big forwards to cover up dame and scoot. Trade ant for an elite defensive forward and resign grant and thybulle.
now the main thing is to build a team around Damian, with a right approach, it was possible to use the backbone around Damian, and a bench of young players aimed at aggressive fast basketball and use these two compositions as a hammer and anvil
People who say we should have traded #3 pick for veteran NBA talent - What? Did you not listen to this interview? Joe specifically said at the beginning, his large team explored all options for trades and determined Scoot Henderson was a better player than ANYONE that was available to trade the pick for, adding I'm sure other assets. I don't think people realize how far along Scoot is. He's been playing professional basketball at a high level for 2 years already. This is not college, where he has to study, do other things in regards to going to college. He played professional basketball FULL TIME for 2 years against very good talent. That was his job. His sole responsibility. I many cases, I'm sure the talent was better than college level. Some weren't, just like the Blazers playing Denver vs. playing Houston. A big difference in talent, but it's PRO TALENT.
Look at Scoot's body. He's got a mature, very strong physique and is ready to go against NBA talent. He's a #1 draft pick IF Victor W. wasn't in this draft!
A team has to get AMAZING TALENT to want to trade a #1 pick worth of talent! And, Scoot is probably far and away above in experience and physical well being, from most all of the other draft picks, except Victor W. in this draft. A much better pick, IMO, than Brandon Miller. So much more "NBA ready".
I suggest fans be patient and SEE FOR YOUR OWN EYES what the Blazers got in this draft! It's kinda mind blowing ... if you'll let it happen and watch it unfold. I think you'll be very surprised by how good of a talent the Blazers got at #23 - with Kevin Murray! He's pretty much EXACTLY what the Blazers have needed. I've seen annalist say the Blazers had the best draft of ANY other NBA team.

Agreed. I am pretty messed up about this. I have been a Blazer since birth. I am fine with not getting a championship (because its really hard to win one), but I can't abide the lying to us and to Dame or not doing anything remotely right by our franchise icon. So many people here are freaking out over nothing. So, a trade couldn’t be worked out before the draft, meaning the Blazers went ahead and took a player that most analysts see as a future perennial All-Star. Why not keep Scoot until at least mid-season and see what he can do?

Anyway, trading has just *started* for the upcoming season, and you and I don’t have crystal balls to see what kind of trades might still be in the works. Believe me, I’ve been watching this all closely and not once did Cronin say he was going to do all his trading before the draft even took place. Now, if nothing more gets done before training camp (I’m pretty sure Ant will be traded for a veteran wing before then), you can justifiably freak out at that point

There are so many people in this comment section who think that the Blazers have to keep the team the way it is now. In reality, team trading for this season just started and will continue into next February. We are going with an even smaller backcourt? What is this management’s obsession with guards? By the moves and lack of attention to the struggles of the roster I question Joe’s integrity. Joe seems to be giving lip service and his actions are in a complete different direction. Whenever it seems like he is making a questionable decision he tells us to “just wait until”.
