shes not introverted! im introverted. She is just not that typical idea we have of extroverted. They actually did a study about the percentage of people who are introverted and extroverted I think they found that majority of people are somewhere in-between and often fluctuate between those extremes. There's a great TED talk on it. You are right about her though and people like her, she is affable as fuck.
i know i wanted to hear about her plays. Its like he is the director of the interview so he gets to choose what is said. But i think a large part of the success of an interview is showing respect for what is being said and the person saying it. He cant be unaware of it, must be trying to make it his signature. I understand guidance is needed sometimes but cut them off a little closer to the end of their answers would ya.
Completely agree. I only watch these roundtables for the panelists. Stephen Galloway needs to be replaced with a good moderator -- or better yet have no moderator and let the panelists ask each other questions like Variety does for its awards-season videos.
I wish Chris Nolan was the moderator of this roundtable. Last time he was there, he genuinely seemed interested in what everyone had to say. Plus he is also the frontrunner this year.
Nolan won't win this year. It's gonna be Del Toro. Even the odds are on him. He's also more deserving this year for the film he made. The Shape of Water is film-making at its finest.
oh lord of course it does! Film industry is still male centric and women are still unrepresented behind the cameras. Quality has nothing to do with it.
Agreed. I wanted to hear Greta finish her story and he interrupted her with a condescending, unoriginal question about sexism. He fails to see the irony of how rude he was to this intelligent woman, and he seems to have no self-awareness.
She should've been nominated for best director this year,,, she's my favorite "Director of the Decade"- which would be it's own prestigious honor awarded only ten times a century, literally
Greta Gerwig is an incredible woman and an amazing director. I love her movie Lady Bird and I admire her. The movie is very touching and emotional in a relationship between a mother and her daugther. She deserves to win an Oscar for the Best Director. The only and the first woman who won an Oscar for The Best Director was Kathryn Bigelow for The Hurt Locker in 2010. #TimeUpForTheWomen
This horrible moderator is Stephen Galloway, and people have been complaining about him for years. His boss is Matthew Belloni, Editorial Director of The Hollywood Reporter, and they have been ignoring the complaints, which tends to happen when people in the white male privilege club look out for each other.
It's painfully obvious that he's the one who decides who gets to moderate the panels and he's not firing himself. This is an ego trip for him. WHITE MALE PRIVILEGE.
They are doing more harm than good by splitting the interviews. The beauty in seeing everyone talk was to see who would dominate the conversation-the playfulness in the interacting personalities.
The complaints are ignored because Stephen Galloway and his boss Matthew Belloni are in the entitled white male privilege club that looks out for each other. A woman or non-white person who behaves like Galloway would've been fired a long time ago.
He still should’ve been on the directors panel. Get Out was one of the best directed films this year, along with Dunkirk, yet neither Peele nor Nolan were in this. Shame.
K T Probably to give other directors a spot. Peele was on the writer's table and Nolan was on the director's table before alongside greats like Ridley Scott. This year they put directors who made breakout masterpieces, and since Jordan Peele was already on the writer's table, they decided to have someone else instead.
I love Greta! Every film I have seen her in, I fall more in love with her! Great quote from this video: "The obstacle is the way!" That is also a great book about Stoicism.
I'm so glad she's there, she's so talented, only thing that pisses me off about this is that she wasn't nominated for golden globes and bafta for best director. Oh well.
Jolie is there because she directed one of the most critically lauded foreign films of the year. I’m sure they asked Nolan he probably was busy I think the table is a good representation of movies and perspectives.
I don't like that people tend to dismiss superhero/blockbuster movies as not being artistic or serious enough for awards. Patty Jenkins deserved to be nominated for the golden globes, you can tell how hard she worked on that film, it was incredible. direction.
Why do these roundtables even need hosts, I always wish I could just see the people talk to each other without some boring guy always cutting them off.
She made an excellent movie but is very non engaging in interviews maybe that's because she's nervous which is fine.... Hope she keeps on making movies...
Angelina Jolie directed the Cambodian movie "First They Killed My Father," which is in the campaign to be nominated for Best Foreign-Language Film. It got a very limited release, but Angelina Jolie has been in the media to promote the movie.
There have been plenty of female oriented films, the star of many of them is sitting right at the table, like the biggest stars in the 90s were females like
Agreed. They should just upload the entire roundtables already and not drag it out with "teasers." Variety's awards season videos are uploaded with no fuss and none of this teaser nonsense.
It's not a documentary. It's a feature film based on a true story. It has a good chance of being nominated for best foreign language film at the Oscars.
"Wonder Woman" is critically acclaimed and a big hit. it's also been nominated for awards that involve action or stunts, so it's definitely part of the awards race.
A big hit - definitely. Critically acclaimed? If it's true, I have no idea, why. And being nominated for stunts or for example visual fx doesn't mean that it has good directing
It got very good reviews, I think for a commercial blockbuster movie it did very well considering it was a superhero woman and also a lot of these blockbuster films , though they might make a lot of money they don't get great reviews. Maybe they also wanted to add more women to this roundtable.
World class talented directors and all you see is who's black and who's white. Doesn't that make YOU the racist? Maybe you just can't accept the fact that no black people made any top quality films this year, other than Get Out of course.
There's this skater chick at my college that looks exactly like Greta Gerwig, but like even hotter. She ignores all my texts though, probably doesn't think I'm cool.
“How hard was it to get off the ground”
Probably as hard as it is to finish a thought without being interrupted by Stephen Galloway
"It's still a very male-oriented business" says the male moderator interrupting the female director as she recalls an anecdote about gender bias.
bro fr wth
This!
LITERALLY JUST THOUGHT THIS
we hate to see it, literally just let her speak her anecdote please
I like how knowledgeable she is about film. I like her quietness. How introverted she is. I like people like her, that are so present and reflective.
Lol she's a self-admitted extrovert...
Wemble Ton humm, that's interesting. where did she say that? as someone who works with people, she seems like an introvert to me.
shes not introverted! im introverted.
She's an ENFP and ENFPs tend to feel like introverts deep down; they're the most introverted extroverts.
She mentioned being an extrovert in an interview once. She's an obvious extrovert to me although not an extreme one at all.
I'm so happy to see Greta sitting at that table, she's so amazing.
She uses words like "quotidian" and "bifurcated." Sigh. I think I'm in love.
me giddily looking both of them up
That guy is still interrupting the guests smh.
i know i wanted to hear about her plays. Its like he is the director of the interview so he gets to choose what is said. But i think a large part of the success of an interview is showing respect for what is being said and the person saying it. He cant be unaware of it, must be trying to make it his signature. WE NEED TO START A FUCKIN PETITION. Coz it seems like The Hollywood Reporter people do not read the comments.

*cuts off Greta Gerwig*
"It's still a very male oriented business"
LOLLLL so true.
I thought the same thing
It's refreshing to see how Guillermo and Angelina are genuinly focus on what Gretta was telling.
Rafael Andres Vega I’d be so intimidated 😅
@@milleranna9813 hahaha I think anyone would. But at the same time with so much false empathy, its cool seeing that.
I thought neither of them gave a flying f but put an act, while she was real
My favorite time of year where I learn a lot from filmmakers and get really inspired and then also get extremely annoyed by Stephen Galloway
Completely agree. I only watch these roundtables for the panelists. Stephen Galloway needs to be replaced with a good moderator -- or better yet have no moderator and let the panelists ask each other questions like Variety does for its awards-season videos.
hahahahaha good one mate
I absolutely love her.
The way she describes everything which such sincere enthusiasm and excitement.
Don't interrupt her, let her speak. What a rude moderator.
he's been doing this in these roundtables for years, unfortunately.
How beautiful it is that everyone's listening to her in such a genuine and interested manner
I wish Chris Nolan was the moderator of this roundtable. Last time he was there, he genuinely seemed interested in what everyone had to say. Plus he is also the frontrunner this year.
frontrunner is Del Toro, man.
I like to hear some different voices. I’m with ya though. Nolan’s work in Dunkirk is outstanding
as usual, Nolan will shine in the technical category. Other sections not so much.
Nolan won't win this year. It's gonna be Del Toro. Even the odds are on him. He's also more deserving this year for the film he made. The Shape of Water is film-making at its finest.
Max Amon they gonna want to complete the circle, Del Toro is the only one of the 3 Amigos without an Oscar.
That table is amazing: three women and three men. I hope this is only the beginning, both at the roundtables and in the industry as a whole.
Lucas Ferreira this isnt the first time they did this. Quit thinking everything is a quota.
oh lord at a directors table I think this is the first time. Last time I check it had only one women at the directors roundtable.
Lucas Ferreira whats your point? Make better movies and you will be recognized. The business is male majority that doesnt mean anything.
oh lord of course it does! Film industry is still male centric and women are still unrepresented behind the cameras. Quality has nothing to do with it.
Lucas Ferreira its male centric for a reason. Not because of patriarchy.
My god, she was literally in the middle of a sentence. This man is clueless.
I hope she is nominated for an Oscar for Best Director.

She deserves to win an Oscar for the Best Director. The only and the first woman who won an Oscar for The Best Director was Kathryn Bigelow for The Hurt Locker in 2010. #TimeUpForTheWomen
Please don't use this moderator again. I'm less than 2 minutes into the video and he has already interrupted Greta three times.
This horrible moderator is Stephen Galloway, and people have been complaining about him for years. His boss is Matthew Belloni, Editorial Director of The Hollywood Reporter, and they have been ignoring the complaints, which tends to happen when people in the white male privilege club look out for each other.
Why don't they just let those other host do these roundtables and stop letting this fool do them?!
Upload the full thing
Frederick Core next year on jan
It’s up now
Obstacle is the path
I'm so so proud of her.
why is galloway still here
It's painfully obvious that he's the one who decides who gets to moderate the panels and he's not firing himself. This is an ego trip for him. WHITE MALE PRIVILEGE.
They are doing more harm than good by splitting the interviews. The beauty in seeing everyone talk was to see who would dominate the conversation-the playfulness in the interacting personalities.
The way Angelina looks at her 😭🤍
Where's Nolan? goddammit... Greta is great, loved Frances Ha and Mistress America, can't wait for Lady Bird!
Just saw “Lady Bird” last night. She knows what’s she’s doing!
Can't wait to watch the full roundtable. So glad to finally see some women in a table of movie directors
Can we just appreciate how humble Greta is... holy fuck she just made one of the greatest movies in all of film history and it was her first wtf!!!
Thank fucking God! You finally got Denis! The only thing that would get this table to 100% is Nolan, but we can’t have it all I guess.
CodyOsburn nonlan has been on the table with Ridley and other great directors
I'm here for Greta and dennis
THANK YOU! As an aspiring writer and director making short films this was quite inspiring!
finally Denis
Where's PTA?
This is a GREAT roundtable and all but...where's Nolan and Payne?
Each year we complain about Galloway being the moderator. He's still here?! He's annoying.
The complaints are ignored because Stephen Galloway and his boss Matthew Belloni are in the entitled white male privilege club that looks out for each other. A woman or non-white person who behaves like Galloway would've been fired a long time ago.
@@showbizlife3910 oh shut up 🙄
Thank you THR for creating an art forum that I can be inspired to do my own work.
WTF, Blade runner 2049 got no recognition at the GGs. that's bullshit
its such bullshit, fuck Lady Bird, literally fuck everything Else, Blade Runner 2049 is the best film of 2017
I'm a simple girl. I see Greta, I click.
Why isn't Jordan Peele on the panel...?
margomarie1 He's on the writers table
Lars Sandnes yeah, I saw that.... My bad! Would have been great to have him at the directors table though. Such a great film.
margomarie1 indeed!
He still should’ve been on the directors panel. Get Out was one of the best directed films this year, along with Dunkirk, yet neither Peele nor Nolan were in this. Shame.

Working with Noah Baumbach is great training for sure to become a good director.
I love Greta! Every film I have seen her in, I fall more in love with her!
Great quote from this video: "The obstacle is the way!" That is also a great book about Stoicism.
wish i had more gerwig and villeneuve dynamic, love those two individuals!!
3:19 thought bubble "ughh, this woman is so unbearably precious."
She's my new role model.
Watch this year's roundtable the moderator has improved very much.
God I hate this moderator!
same, he interrupts and it pisses me off so much
don't watch the video then
I have watched a lot of these and after a while you get used to him.
Same problem as last year, he likes to interrupt.
Tropical Malady is great! Who are the people at this Roundtable? I recognize Jolie but no one else.
I'm so glad she's there, she's so talented, only thing that pisses me off about this is that she wasn't nominated for golden globes and bafta for best director. Oh well.
WHERE IS CHRIS NOLAN?
Malia Intikhab exactly. The fact that he isn’t here and Jolie is here is stupid
Jolie is there because she directed one of the most critically lauded foreign films of the year. I’m sure they asked Nolan he probably was busy I think the table is a good representation of movies and perspectives.
I've literally never heard of Jolies film up until now.
and now you know, so the roundtable worked!
Working on next project 😉
Upload the entire episode, already
I think she did a great job with Lady Bird
i love greta!!!!!
and holy moly angelina is SO BEAUTIFUL
Wow. I'm interested in anytging she would create. Lady Bird is definitely on my to watch list
I like her she deserve a leading role for a love story
Who's that guy next to Denis?
Joe Wright...... I don't know why he's there
Oh yeah, that's right! I think it's because of Darkest Hour
No Christopher Nolan?
Why Chris Nolan is absent?
Probably because he's done one of these before. They want to give other directors a chance
Tim Holm Doesn't explain Jolie
Man what a crossover. Gerwig, Del Toro and Villeneuve in the same place.
My god I hate Christopher Nolan fans. This was a good roundtable.
No Christopher Nolan? Sorry what?
She put on plays. Like Briony Tallis?
What? We never saw mother and daughter fighting in a movie? What about Höstsonaten (1978)?
Extraordinary.
Biggest snub in the Golden Globes. Shame.
This guy didn't let her talk
Great Gerwig 👑
how old is she?
Greta on Tropical Malady: "What is this?"
Me: Same, Greta.
I don't like that people tend to dismiss superhero/blockbuster movies as not being artistic or serious enough for awards. Patty Jenkins deserved to be nominated for the golden globes, you can tell how hard she worked on that film, it was incredible. direction.
Greta Grewig! ❤
sTOP interrupting HER!
adore her
I didn't like her film. But I like her.
The interviewer looks like Mr. Bean.
Wonder Woman was such an uinspired film directing-wise.. Why is Jenkins there?
The photo shoot part for these videos look out of place
you re so cute! so spontaneous! keep on smiling ! you re adorable! and true!
greta❤❤❤❤
Why do these roundtables even need hosts, I always wish I could just see the people talk to each other without some boring guy always cutting them off.
She made an excellent movie but is very non engaging in interviews maybe that's because she's nervous which is fine.... Hope she keeps on making movies...
Why is Angelina Jolie there and not Dees Rees? who actually directed something that's in the conversation this season lol
Angelina Jolie directed the Cambodian movie "First They Killed My Father," which is in the campaign to be nominated for Best Foreign-Language Film. It got a very limited release, but Angelina Jolie has been in the media to promote the movie.
She's probably there because she's Angelina Jolie. If you get my drift.
BETTER!
rip Del Toro
There have been plenty of female oriented films, the star of many of them is sitting right at the table, like the biggest stars in the 90s were females like
THR: Why don't you put all the bits in one episode like before? You're cutting the rhythm of the interviews ...and the whole “roundtable” experience.
Agreed. They should just upload the entire roundtables already and not drag it out with "teasers." Variety's awards season videos are uploaded with no fuss and none of this teaser nonsense.
Looks like Angelina is sliently judging her
She looks a little bit like a younger RDJ
Why is Angelina Jolie there ?
lit af she directed a documentary called "First they killed my father". It just got nominated for a Golden Globe.
It's not a documentary. It's a feature film based on a true story. It has a good chance of being nominated for best foreign language film at the Oscars.
take out wright and jolie and get nolan and bigelow then it would be perfect
wow no dee rees?????
This roundtable doesn't have the best directors this year besides Guillermo.
worst moderator ever
that guy angered me SO much omg
F*cking Galloway!!
What on earth is Patty Jenkins doing there..??
"Wonder Woman" is critically acclaimed and a big hit. it's also been nominated for awards that involve action or stunts, so it's definitely part of the awards race.
A big hit - definitely. Critically acclaimed? If it's true, I have no idea, why. And being nominated for stunts or for example visual fx doesn't mean that it has good directing

Moses:
Dee Rees - Mudbound
Koganada - Columbus
Taika Waititi - Thor: Ragnarok
Sabaah Folayan - Whose Streets
Raoul Peck - I am not your Negro
Guillermo del Toro representing latinos.
mercedes cavani don't tell em, they gonna bitch about he being white and being from a Latin culture don't count.
mate, you're clueless. There were loads of black directors that made amazing films this year but carry on being dense
This interview is sooo annoying he doesn’t let them answer the questions!
There's this skater chick at my college that looks exactly like Greta Gerwig, but like even hotter. She ignores all my texts though, probably doesn't think I'm cool.
Greta is amazing, but all these white men looking like interrogators or something are very annoying
