That's not a hindrance. Some directors were nominated and even won for the first movie. Orson Welles, Kevin Costner, Robert Redford, Rob Marshall, Sam Mendes. It is strange that a film which got nominated for acting failed to get a directing nomination.
The movie was good but the directing wasn't anything outstanding (nor was Spielberg for The Post or Ridley Scott, tbh). Denis V for BR2049, Nolan for Dunkirk, and all the other directors have imprinted their style but Greta's style is not as prevalent. It is her first movie, after all.
Maria Paula When I first saw her in Frances Ha I feel in love instantly and ever since she has been a inspiration for me to be like her, director, actress, writer, all and all a cool gal
the title is a little disingenuous, she had co-written and co-directed movies before lady bird so it's not like she was a TOTAL newcomer. also i don't think it's really what she said, i think she meant that she learned to write and direct while being *in* other films
MY GOD 4:34 - 4:42 from when she says thank you to when she doesn't know which camera jimmys talking to. Greta Gerwig might be the love of my life but we'll never meet. She's the cutest, I swear to God
I watched Lady Bird at the Tower Theater in Sacramento, makes me proud to be from here and finally noticed a little/ put on the map. Ah it's a nice feeling and the movie was so good btw
What a truly beautiful film. Went to go see it with my parents and we were all bawling. Touched us so much, all the scenes of Lady Bird and her mom fighting and then making up were all too real for me.
Ro G I know, that is sad and it was Sofia Coppola...by the way The Beguiled, in my opinion was great this year...but Greta definitely deserves to be acknowledged for Ladybird! Very well done!
i wish jimmy would do like just a tad more than the minimum of research. How could you not know greta had written two other films which happen to be amazing films. i mean he gets so excited and i dont have a problem with that except that its not genuine if it were genuine he would be actually passionate about that person and their work. But if i had lost my mum i would be barely conscious right now so hes doing his best, it is still applicable to every other ep of his show though.
If you liked this movie, check out ALICE ADAMS (1935) starring Katharine Hepburn & Fred MacMurray. Directed by George Stevens. Many of the same themes.
Since 1980, there has only been one female winner of Best Director. Seriously? It's almost like Hollywood is run by men who treat women like shit. Wait a second...
Don't worry. I'm 100% it will change. I really hope women will get recognized. But trust me after this very tough year, i feel like men wont be running Hollywood anymore
guillermo del toro is winning everything. but she deserves it too. one day she'll win it. she's on her way to become one of the best american directors
most people in film don't go to film school. you can become a P.A and work your way up. she was an actress and learned the tricks of the trade that way. but, there's many paths to get any desired film job.
^pretty much growing on trees yeah considering that there's so many openings. idk where there are postings. maybe going to a film school and asking to volunteer on their school produced films could be a good start. i'm going to film school right now so i'm not quite sure how one would get into it without that. but i imagine it can't be too hard. just ask around. send emails. you'll find something for sure. it really isn't very hard at all. once you've done one the rest are easy cause you can just ask the crew where they're going next and hop on! i've walked in on sets numerous times and just asked if they needed help and ended up getting a PA credit or something most times. idk if you know who Bill Hader is but he was a PA for quite a while and now he's playing leads in movies. where there's a will there's a way.
It's also who you know and being at the right place at the right time. kismet.. Also having ambition and taking action towards your goal and working really hard.
Julia Kean what if youd like to take action but you don't know anyone, your not at the right place, and you don't even know what sites to go to look for PA jobs?
Jimmy is overexcited with every guest. He acts like a child asking lots of simple, obvious questions. Also the laugh and the interrupting is annoying to me.
Rick Sanchez everyone has their own style of hosting. If you don't like Jimmys attitude then don't watch him. Its as simple as that. I'm sick of seeing comments saying he's fake and whatnot
I hate to be that guy, but since Natalie Portman so rudely reminded us of the all male director field at the Globes, Gerwig still needs some work. Lady Bird is the most overrated film of the year. Not bad, but merely okay. Patty Jenkins turned in a stronger directorial effort with Wonder Woman, but comic book films don't and shouldn't get award show love. I welcome diversity of all kinds, but only when it is deserved. The sense of entitlement these days disgusts me. Greta is a hell of an underrated actress though.
Xanax I wouldn't call it a "topical joke" I would call it a disrespectful to the nominees. She could have said that on social media or something. Not in front of Nolan,Spielberg,Guillermo,...
I promise you that all those names you listed LOVED it. They understand she means well by it. Her intention wasn't to throw shade on them. It was aimed at hollywood haha. but take it as you may.
I mean, she fits the hipster stereotype. Greta sounds like a hipster name. She has a cat. She likes books and art. She went to college to become a playwright. She’s in artsy, indie films.
So, HER movie WON BEST PICTURE AND the actress SHE DIRECTED, won best actress, but, SHE DIDN’T EVEN GET NOMINATED FOR BEST DIRECTOR
KP That’s what happens when Hollywood doesn’t want to go against Ridley Scott & Steven Spielberg. Smh.
🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼
For the Golden Globes, not the Oscars. Oscars are the only awards that really matter.
It is her first movie, after all.
i wanna be her when i grow up
Maria Paula me too
I wanna date her when I grow up
Maria Paula When I first saw her in Frances Ha I feel in love instantly and ever since she has been a inspiration for me to be like her, director, actress, writer, all and all a cool gal
Me too.
Me too
She must be a REALLY fast learner to make a movie that good
Right?!?!
she studied philosophy at barnard
She cares and she pays attention. That's what makes her brilliant
the title is a little disingenuous, she had co-written and co-directed movies before lady bird so it's not like she was a TOTAL newcomer. also i don't think it's really what she said, i think she meant that she learned to write and direct while being *in* other films
Guillermo deserved that win BUT Greta should've at least been nominated best director
she is nominated??
Kyle Clark For the Golden Globes she wasn't. All-male nominees.
yeah but its the globes? no one gives a shit about that
She did get nominated to best director.
Lady Bird was such a great movie
Black Phillip - It was so authentic and beautiful. It really was a nearly perfect movie. It was my favorite movie of the year!
She is so pretty
Yea, I don't think anyone's debating you there.
Not all things happen to good people but greta and saoirse got there reward. Next the oscars, come on for the ladys of ladybird.
Bryan Jmm Frances McDormand is winning best actress for Three Billboards Outside Ebbing Missouri
Mega MovieZ we will just have to wait and see.
She’s not a good person behind the scenes
Such an inspiring person! I really love her way of communicating :)
120? Wow!
MY GOD 4:34 - 4:42 from when she says thank you to when she doesn't know which camera jimmys talking to. Greta Gerwig might be the love of my life but we'll never meet. She's the cutest, I swear to God
She has become one of my new favorite people!! She DESERVES to be nominated for an oscar!!!
She's such an underrated legend
She is amazing!! I hope she gets nominated for an Oscar

@@MrParkerman6 wtf😂
Surely there is more then 1 clip to upload of her, i want more!
If she's snubbed for directing WE WILL MARCH ON THE STREET
But it's only January now...
Sad to say, but there has only been one woman to win best director. EVER.
Ro G I know, that is sad and it was Sofia Coppola...by the way The Beguiled, in my opinion was great this year...but Greta definitely deserves to be acknowledged for Ladybird! Very well done!
Sofia won best screen play for Lost in Translation, but it didn't win best director. Only Kathryn Bigelow has won for Hurt Locker.
Ro G yes, that's right! Thanks!
I officially have a crush on her now.
Her eyes are shining while she's talking wow
She's so damn cute and beautiful.
Agreed. She's gorgeous.
I love her so much and she is so much like Frances Ha
i wish jimmy would do like just a tad more than the minimum of research. Joe Swanberg must be flabbergasted how the big mouthed girl he used to film no-budget indie movies with just won best picture
3:28 Jimmy misses the table
I've only ever heard Jimmy ever call his women guests pal. Anyone notice that?
I like the movie but I think it's not a movie The Academy would like. I still don't get the nominations it recieved
She didn't go to film school? How did she get a film job then?!!
most people in film don't go to film school. you can become a P.A and work your way up. she was an actress and learned the tricks of the trade that way. but, there's many paths to get any desired film job.

^pretty much growing on trees yeah considering that there's so many openings. idk where there are postings. maybe going to a film school and asking to volunteer on their school produced films could be a good start. i'm going to film school right now so i'm not quite sure how one would get into it without that. but i imagine it can't be too hard. just ask around. send emails. you'll find something for sure. it really isn't very hard at all. once you've done one the rest are easy cause you can just ask the crew where they're going next and hop on! i've walked in on sets numerous times and just asked if they needed help and ended up getting a PA credit or something most times. idk if you know who Bill Hader is but he was a PA for quite a while and now he's playing leads in movies. where there's a will there's a way.

and it is only her first film.
The best performance in Lady Bird was that of Laura Metcalf!
jimmy fallon was peak annoying jimmy fallon in this interview
I wanna genuinely befriend Saoirse Ronan and Greta Gerwig.
Greta? I thought she was Frances irl
GRETA IS YOUNG WOMEN? I taught all great director is old.
Sheldon's mom has a lot of troubled children.
Fallon is the worst late night interviewer by far
Manu Gulati I think he’s the best! So there😜
And yet you're watching his videos.. GET THE FUCK OUTTA HERE👊
No. He's not. I enjoy his show and mostly bcs of him
I like that he doesn't tell people to make their kids cry on camera like another jimmy we know
Jimmy is overexcited with every guest. He acts like a child asking lots of simple, obvious questions. Also the laugh and the interrupting is annoying to me.
TheChangeMyLife he's a talk show host. That's what he's supposed to do...
Tiffany Eztrada other host dont do this shit lol
Rick Sanchez everyone has their own style of hosting. If you don't like Jimmys attitude then don't watch him. Its as simple as that. I'm sick of seeing comments saying he's fake and whatnot
MISTRESS AMERICA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I am actually a young aspiring screenwriter. I know how to do it.
^that's harsh
do u want us to applaud?
3:23 Jesus Christ, what the fuck?
Oh... looks like jason segel finally did that gender operation he was talking about. Cool.
I hate to be that guy, but since Natalie Portman so rudely reminded us of the all male director field at the Globes, Gerwig still needs some work. Lady Bird is the most overrated film of the year. Portman wasn't rude lmao. it's called a topical joke. pull the stick out of your ass lol
"Lady Bird is overrated" I understand.
"Patty Jenkins turned over a stronger directional debut that is Wonder Woman." Uhh no.
Her nomination are from #metoo, not for her capacities.
Overrated AF
I wish she was smarter, otherwise she'd be perfect
Anyone else find her incredibly pretentious?
Haven’t liked a single movie she’s been in. She’s always in really strange Indie / arthouse movies.
I mean, she fits the hipster stereotype. Greta sounds like a hipster name. She has a cat. She likes books and art. She went to college to become a playwright. She’s in artsy, indie films.
i mean if you don't like mumblecore you won't like most of her films, that's what she mostly does.
