i normally lean towards boogaloo. but tempo was an unexpected refreshment. out of all 4 i have to say that tempo, stylistically, was the best. i wish i could see longer sets though, void of unnecessary interruption

It was very close in my opinion!! I really felt that there needed to be more rounds but our time was limited. I also feel that seeing it on video does it no justice, it was better seeing it live!!! I can honestly say, I think that Tempo is on point and that was actually the first time I've seen him pop in person!! Much respect to him, I think he is incredible!! I felt that the battle was just starting to warm up and that some good stuff was about to happen but we had to end the battles.

I noticed slick Dogg happened to slap jrock's sun glasses off when brick glided to close to him. Had this been at a club, this could've started a fight. I'm glad it didn't, but brick needs to learn boundaries and not get to close into people's personal space.

Gstyle took this in my book. I would have rather had Frank Boogies vs. Tempo so that Tempo would have taken this seriously. Because for those who don't know Tempo was straight fuckin around with Jrock. If it had been Frank Boogie this would have been a downright nasty battle. Jazzy was very sloppy almost looked like he was nervous.

Just so you know JRock, Sweepy went up to DJ Rod and requested certain music for the battles!!! In all fairness, I let Slick also talk to Rod to pick which of the songs that Sweepy chose he felt were good!! Again, FAIRNESS. Another point, Jazzy has been a friend and brother of mine since 1981. We were in the same crew for years!! This is being said with respect, Jazzy did not want to go on stage and battle. He wanted his friends behind him but he then agreed.

I vote G-Style because they were more cleaner than that boogaloo style. Plus, those G-Style dancers were on beat and actually hitting in comparison to those boogaloo people. Their poppin was consistent and made sense most importantly.

G-style killed this battle :D tempo was sick, and everybody saying slick dogg was crap?! Look at the timing he does his moves, much better than jazzys, and tempo smashed j-rock, so g-style won this! The egos did get a bit big though, but sometimes it adds to the excitement

@soajsaid i'll answer for him, ballet and all those art forms are based on foundation and that those techniques... youre judged on HOW WELL you copy/perform already established moves. however, every now and then come a revolutionary ballet dancer who has all those foundations down and changes it up a bit. but those dances have been established for many many years now. much longer than popping.
When slick dogg said that, i dont think he meant that people wanna copy exactly what they do.

Jrock it seems like you think I was playing favorites!! I will be at the Groovlaoo practice tomorrow, where you can talk to me in person. Don't write these little innuendoes about me in your statements, my goal was to keep it fair and control the conflicts and bad tempers of all the people involved - G-style as well as Boogaloo. Again don't put me on the internet to discuss my actions, do it person. It was not my event to choose how the battle was to be done, I had to squeeze it in.

Everything negative G-style has ever said about the Boogaloo has just been refuted by their actions and the outstanding performers by JRock and the OG Jazzy J.

I like both styles but I would like to try to incorporate both of them into one style. Slick Dogg is sick but his rounds were too short but lots of respect and love for him. I don't even know who the first guy was but he was pretty dope. I'm going to have to say that the battle was really up to both jrock and tempo. Both dancers were on beat but I think jrock got a little too carried away with his scarecrow style. But regardless, I just wanted to say that I love the battle and I would like to see more of this kind of scene in the Poppin community.

    in my opinion
    g and boogaloo style
are two very different because the two are very difficult
I do not advocate any of the two ideas as the two I like dancing
I think a lot has changed since the time the judges have decided to put in battles
I think that should be provided with public opinion as they did this look
judge will always have a preference for who dance as the judge learned
would have to see another style or technique

When you can manage to watch this video with NO bias whatsoever, it is pretty clear that Slick and Tempo won this. They were clean as fuck wow. The old me 5 or 6 years ago would have said Jrock and Jazzy J won. But when you go back and really pay attention, it really goes to Slick and Tempo. Gotta give'em credit.

@soajsaid slick dogg teaches concepts and you apply them to your own style, he doesnt teach movements. i like a lot of boogaloo, and jazzy j is one of my favorites but slick dogg is also cool. you cant deny that the dancers slick dogg "trains" get doper, tempo, frantick, etc. they are sick dancers in their own right and they dont boogaloo and they all look rather different from one another. its a good thing i think. hope that helps you understand.

    by the way?
i am using jazzy to teach once again, its always about teaching with me folks.
when jazzys wierd ass disses me?
folks read, and watch the vid to really see for themselves the sloppyness.
folks cant rebut me with anything but words they learned from one of my tutorials to be close to me in logic.
    but even still?
they keep forgetting, they aint addressing the issues so they lose.
even if they try to be like me?
    it wont work.

Who really cares what region or 'style' of popping it is anyway...it's preference, and it really just comes down to the skill, art, and love for the dance. Popping is an umbrella term for many styles now. Don't taint newer generation like myself with such politics...

"Sometimes you won't have another round so you have to keep the attention on you so that they don't forget you."
Yes it brings attention to someone dancing during the other persons turn, it brings NEGATIVE ATTENTION, and the audience won't t forget how disrespectful they were.

@soajsaid I agree with you that hitting the sunglasses was not cool. But Jrock did bump into Tempo before after they made it clear not to get in their face with the same hand gesture.
Jrock was DANCING while tempo was entering his set! And would mime sleeping, "get on with it" and everything he could possibly do to distract the crowd from their dance. A battle is about letting the battle take place. If everyone is dancing there is no focus or respect to the battle.

This was the craziest battle i seen i was there me n my partner Poppin Lady AK performed. This is where JRock's glasses accidently got knocked off. My boy Tempo is amazing man he's a great Popper he learned well, executes well, then brings his own unique funk to it. A student every teacher wants to have hes a master now! Slick was bangin on' em wit it! Jazzy came off first dope. J rock had some good moves. The battle was too short n they should have counted down. Even time to pop for all.

@sifujordan No. You don't dance on the side, while the person in the circle is dancing.
When two rappers are battling, they do not shout over each other to determine the winner.
One raps, and then the other gets their turn. Dance is no different.

    Now:
Jrock vs Tempo = Tempo... I shouldnt even need to explain why. 1st off can you say that Tempo and Slick dance the same? NO. Can you say Jrock and Jazzy do? YES! The first move Jrock did wasnt even good nor was it a complete wave. I met Tempo when he was in Kalamazoo, MI before he was in G Style. I went to his house once and I remember he said "make sure you take your time and listen to the music. Never be in a rush or it will look sloppy, have some patience".

@dtguitarist (cont 3-15) For the record and experience: G-style isn't really a "style'' -as much as it's a crew- but I have seen others in the past that have similar. Mr. Animation and Suga Pop when they were in Air Force Krew had hard, gangster hits. To be honest with you: I have never heard of Slick Dogg until around 2007. Throughout the years, I have heard of Wigs, The Electric Boogs, Animation, Boog Shrimp, Mr. Re, and just the locals on my side. G-Style = since 2000. EBs = early 1970s. :-/

@soajsaid you're critique is out of wack
    1. Slick is one of the hardest hitters I have ever witnessed.
    2. Leg work? Everyone has mimicked Jazzy's boogaloo leg work, but
how many can mimic Slick Dogg? Goes to show what he does isn't easy.
I would suggest you to make a clip mimicking Slick, you can see JRock failed
at doing that in the clip.
    3. People use to tell Salah not to do many things and he still kills a lot
    of the newschoolers.
    4. take off your EB glasses please.

IMO, Jazzy took both rounds, Jrock took the 2nd; Tempo took the 1st.
However, I'd rather see this done in the circle, with way more than just 2 rounds. Also thought the music was a bit better for Jazzy and Jrock.

Also, I noticed Jrock posted that the G-style guys dictated everything about the battle!! That is not true, I dictated the rules, the guidelines and how it was gonna go down!!!!
It was set to be a 2v2, I saw the beefs and asked if they wanted to handle it on STAGE!! I prefer the circles but everyone kept getting into being physical!! I didn't need a fight closing the summit. I felt under more controlled circumstances that the battle could happen without others getting involved!!!

@soajsaid no lol just a year ago slick said jrock and popula's style was better than mgf's style of boogaloo.. not necessarily appreciating it lol. he was favorable to it lol

    @HermannTheGreat isn't G-style actually much older??

  • @HermannTheGreat
    @HermannTheGreat 13 років тому

Alot of people should talk to the old guys instead of believing what they read on the internet.. Slick Dogg and his crew were popping before JRock was even born.. They just started calling everything G-Style back in 2007 as Slick started to create something new and put a name to it. Do some research, wavemasters are as old as the Boppin Crew, which is way older than any of these newschool dancers, and just as old as the bygone EB's..

Tempo is sick, one of the best, but not quite on Jazzy's level.

Jazzy would've destroyed them 20 years ago. He's finished. Boogaloo is actually are harder style of dancing than G style. That's why you don't see older cats doing it. G style is safer because it requires less footwork.

@@falsealarmno exactly. boogaloo requires much more footwork and ground move

@@falsealarmno I know this is an old comment, but definitely not true. A good example is Greenteck... he came in doing extremely technical and demanding "g-style"(literally was in the group I think).
You also have dancers like Damon Frost, Elsewhere, and Mori. They are kind of rare, but it just depends on what level a dancer is at and how deep their style goes. There may be less footwork overall, but the flexibility and strength required and to be able to dance well with it is crazy.
