So I'm wondering when Hot 97 got into this hip hop and R&B format.
In 1991 freestyle was fading fast, hip hop and house were the thing. By 1993 hot 97 was all in for hip hop.
For accuracy, freestyle was holding on pretty strong in 1991, in 1992 is when it all unraveled and hot 97 was playing much more hip hop, house, and techno.
It was a Hip House in 1989, and an Acid house in 86/89.
@@mymusic8414 In Europe: Techno house 1991, Techno trance 1993.
1992 was pretty much the full transition to hip-hop/R&B...I had to do something so I formed the New York Dance Music Coalition.
Are you sure this isn't late 1989 as Pump Up The Jam didn't hit the Top 40 until November 1989. Maybe they were playing it as an import but I was still thinking it was early 1989 it came out there?
Correct. It really was not played until very late 1989 into 1990
@@michaelkoumjian239 either way it's good stuff MUCH better than what passes for dance now!
Probably played pump as an import since they also play tell it to my heart which is was from fall 87. Seems like too old to be playing in late 89/90 but who knows.
