  • Hi friends! I tried something new with the mid-roll ad in this video: I created a little space for it with my title card so that the ad would show during a natural break in the video and not interrupt my speech. Did it work? If you don't have UA-cam Premium and you see the ad, let me know!

Okay, that middle add was perfect. What I always hated about adds in videos is it just cut in. Somebody would be in the middle of a sentance and bam, here's an add. But you put up a little title card and you went to wash your hands. It felt like watching tv (full of middle adds) because it was intended to be in that moment. Not only was that super classy, I watched an entire middle add, something I do for nobody else's vids.

The discussion about working toward these artistic visions you have for your wardrobe and makeup despite the purchases not being a particularly "sensible" choice is SO. INSPIRING. I feel rejuvenated and amped up and ready to create! I always say that one's makeup and clothing choices are art, but so many of my purchases are made from the place of that perfection-demon or worrying what others think or wanting to fit in. This discussion has me really taking a long look at why I choose what I choose and thinking of what I want to embody or explore in a greater sense. Thank you as always for your amazing content, Hannah!

Hannah, that talk about the need for perfection and buying things for perfection is exactly how I’ve been feeling lately! I feel like I need to buy things so that I can have the perfect things - buying so much skincare so that I can have perfect skin, never being happy with what I have because it’s not a “favourite” or a “holy grail”. It’s exhausting!

Have you thought about going to the Bite lab and creating the shade in your mind? I know it’s kind of expensive, but it might be worth it AND super fun.

A steamer can take out most wrinkles unless you want a shirt to be really crisp. For silk you often don’t really need to dry clean (unless it is suedes silk) you can either hand wash in the sink to put it in the washer in a garment bag, but make sure to hang dry.

So now when I need to replace something I try to buy a lighter colour like pink/blush/pale blue/cream etc and I’m finding it far more flattering on my pale skin and on my face.

I was looking at the swatches of the infinite lip clouds while you talked about being able to choose the exact right shade, quietly thinking how incredibly extra that was.... and then I realized my three lipsticks are the same NYX matte formula in varying shades of red, and every time I wear lipstick I ponder and consider whether slightly orangey-red, neutral red, or slightly berry-red is the perfect shade for my look that day 😂 Each of us has our own “thing” to be extra about! And it’s really okay to just enjoy being able to choose the exact right lipstick.

Ad break made me laugh! It was perfect :) I wish more creators would do something cute like that (message and actually announcing it, meaning it's sure to not destroy the momentum the creator works so hard to have in their videos). This was absolutely perfect!
Pink Hannah? Someone found a way to celebrate Barbie's 60th anniversary without being too obvious :) I'm not a very pink person myself, but I realized as you were talking about it that one of my favourite go-to shirts to wear is actually a beautiful pink v-neck tank that flares just below the bust area, and I realized that while I wear it, I feel beautiful and comfortable and powerful, even while wearing a feminine colour that I was always opposed to wearing in the past.
Loved the update, and I can't wait to see your next video :)

I do my makeup each day according to the clothes I’m wearing and how I’m feeling. I can understand having three very similar nude lip shades as each shade will complete a different look, also it’s nice when a nude lip tones well with the colours of an outfit.

I had this same thought when I was watching your last corporate ethics video: I was just wondering to myself, what you'd be doing in your channel next year and I thought maybe you'd do a "my indie year." of course the rules would be different, maybe an indie budget or something, but I think that'd be a really interesting challenge that in turn also gives much deserved attention to indie brands. just a thought!

It is a gift that you had these “not what I expected” item results happen with the lipstick and the eye shadow, since you achieved a great insight about yourself. How “perfect” is that? 😉 With pink, I have found that the feeling I have when I wear it, and the response that it evokes in others is somewhat spiritually reassuring, an essence of pure, even, sustained love. Odd to characterize it that way, but, how else to describe a heart space essence? I have a favorite light pink tissue linen v-neck casual top that is now getting tiny holes it in and won’t be wearable too much longer that calms and embraces me when I wear it. I want more of those type of items in my wardrobe. 🙏🏼

I get so much out of your videos and am always pointing you out as a source for rational, yet inspiring content. Thank you for making quality videos.
Last night I ordered an eyeshadow from Fyrinnae called Fantasy Creatures. I saw it on the Temptalia site and was mesmerized. I haven't bought any makeup in a while, but, my God, I didn't even finish the review before I placed my order. It shifts so many colors that at first I thought the swatches were for a collection, not a single pan. I'm usually wear neutral shades but even if all I ever do is swatch this on my wrist when I'm playing it will be worth it.
So, I thought of both you and Sarah when I saw this gorgeous multichrome from an indie brand and wanted to share it with you in case you missed it. Oh, it was $13 total, delivery included. I would've paid much more, so the price was just icing on the cake!

Re: JD Glow -- This was my only beef with my first purchase from them, when I ordered a bunch of shades in the sale. I have Good Gawd and 365 too, but I also have several others in the line, and many of them just feel super different. The shades in the line aren't the same fomula or finish! It's really, really odd. JD Glow needs to revisit how they sort their things, particularly on their website. They're great shadows, but having them all in the same family sets customers up for disappointment when they would otherwise be very happy to have them.
I'm happy you're not beating yourself up about it, though! I hate that feeling that you "wasted" something, as opposed to having something that is also good-just different!

I love your revelation this month regarding the palette and colorful clothing. It made me happy seeing you so happy about your purchases. I had a similar feeling in July. I decided to do a no-buy July to reorient my thoughts on makeup purchases. Samantha March came out with her Ofra highlighter collab. I sat on it for about a week, but decided to just buy it. The only highlighter I have has major pan, so I'll need to replace soon. Also, I got to support one of my favorite youtubers and the first I remember watching. I did not feel bad in the slightest for breaking my no buy. That was the only purchase I made last month, I didn't go crazy, I knew I'd love it, and I got to support Samantha--what's to bad about?!

Just an FYI I recently purchased Magic Hour. It's a gorgeous shade, but I'd say it definitely pulls more peachy pink than terracotta. So I don't think it's really the shade you were lusting after.

omg, I relate so hard to the sale impulse buying then the heavy weight when it's wrong or not a good deal so even if it is good you still get frustrated and annoyed. part of why I am seriously trying to stop my spending because it isn't worth the backlash

Being obsessive about the things I buy is something I do as well. Even now, during my no buy year, if something breaks or runs out and I have to replace it, I'll spend hours and hours finding the 'perfect' one. When my summer shoes broke and I had to buy new ones, even though I didn't feel like shopping, I couldn't let go until I found the perfect ones. I feel like because it's my only pair, it has to be 'perfect'. It's so stupid, because I was driving myself crazy obsessing over it, which made me feel very anxious. Shoes shouldn't make you feel anxious.

it takes time! it took me a year and a half to start letting go of that. Don't be too hard on yourself, it's normal to go through it like this during a no-buy

Welcome to the #pinkladylife. I used to be all Black everything and now when I look at my closet its all the shades of rosepink. And then I dyed my hair pink. Its been pink for over a year and funny enough, some of my colleagues are still only now like: "Hey, is your hair pink?!" I like to think of myself as the most colorful government official of Finland and I welcome you to the pink side 👾👾👾

Just FYI I didn’t get a mid video ad, and I don’t have UA-cam premium. I am considering getting premium though. I didn’t renew my Amazon Prime membership this year (after much thought and number crunching) so I have that bit of wiggle room in the budget. I should do it.
I feel the same as you about pants, but being 5’2”, having 27” waist, 39” hips and not wearing denim makes finding pants next to impossible for me. My wardrobe is predominately Black as well, but I’m not mad about it. It makes wearing bold makeup work 😁
Besides the kitten stuff and the Midas High Times palette I only bought a couple replacements in July. I still had almost $105 left going into August. With a $350ish budget I’m considering investing in either a handmade purse from an Etsy seller or the ND Gold palette. Fewer nicer things. Hmmm. I’m still thinking about it though.

    • @HannahLouisePoston
      @HannahLouisePoston  5 років тому +2

Joe buys almost nothing! We both make very little money from our business, but I do a lot of gigging on the side to earn myself some spending money and some savings. He doesn't do any extra gigging so he has less $$ than me. He bought himself new swim trunks two months ago, that's pretty much the measure of it, LOL!

It’s great that your inner Hannah obsessed with perfection is losing her power over your feelings! Honestly though, I would be pretty salty over the lipsticks. I’m so annoyed with Em Cosmetics for not having model pictures with the new shades like they do with the older ones. Those cute videos of smearing the formula tell me nothing about how the color will look against my skin. I’d been considering Morning Mocha when I bought Faded Clementine a couple weeks ago (which I’m so glad I did. What an unbelievably beautiful orange!) but I was worried it would be too much like a nude gloss that I have. I’m glad I didn’t buy it, because it really isn’t as brown as I would want. I guess I’m just more petty than you when I don’t get what I thought I was buying haha

  • @brennahill9788

Love the break. OK I love Magic Hour ILC. It’s like the surreal color of stain of red orange lipstick that wore off or if you could really put on a popsicle like lipstick. Hah!
But I did try the blush serum and I had to send it back. The color was nice, the formula is a bit sticky on the cheeks. Not like your hair sticks to it, but doesn’t dry down like a cream product. You’d want to set it with powder. My issue was the packaging. The dropper did not work and I didn’t want to have to pound the bottle like a ketchup glass bottle to get out too much or too little product. Beautiful, but not the way I wanted a $25 product to be, you know? Also the bottle itself is small like the size of a ping pong ball. Not a deal breaker but I was surprised at how small it was. Just wanted to throw my experience at you as you ponder your purchase!

Regarding the French Nude - probably the fear of second guessing a long standing want, where you believe you have already thought everything through so thoroughly, and that a new color or style is so impulsive and that you will be making a huge mistake, that one ends up going with the original choice

I’m curious what your take is on returning items. Even when you talked about “if I really didn’t like it” you said you would give it away. Not return so I’m just curious if you have a position on that.

    • @HannahLouisePoston
      @HannahLouisePoston  5 років тому

I did return one thing this year. because I was able to take it back to the store in person and it was almost untouched and rather expensive. For a single piece of mail-order makeup that I would have to mail back, I'd rather give it away and take the hit.

Fairy Acid is possibly the best eye shadow name ever. You are leading me down the path of least resistance with all of those gorgeous shadows. Yummy! Please give Sadie an ear scratch for me (Edited to add: There is no reason for Natasha DeNona shadows to be as expensive as they are. I have the Lila palette, and it's pretty, but it's not anything special. I call her brand Natasha "DeNono" LOL)

I am starting to realize that just because it is expensive does not mean it is better. I have been thinking about some of the information in your corporate videos. I have been waiting videos where people are talking more and more about indy brands. Have you thought about berry, magenta, or fuschia in your pinks. I know they are bright but they are beautiful.
