  • 8 Reasons Why You SHOULD NOT Get a Miniature Schnauzer
The smallest of the three Schnauzer breeds, Miniature Schnauzers are compact dogs standing at only 14 inches (35.5 cm) tall. However, don’t underestimate what these dogs can do. Despite being small, Miniature Schnauzers are active for their size, and they are also outgoing dogs which means that they aren’t suited for anyone. So, for today’s video, we’ll talk about the 8 reasons why you should not get a Miniature Schnauzer!
Schnauzers were originally bred to work as farm dogs and ratters. Therefore, while they are not aggressive, this breed is actually sturdy and muscular. Their temperament also highly varies - some are introverts while others are extroverts. Some are serious, while others are naturally hilarious. As we go through this video, we’ll get to know more about Miniature Schnauzer to help you decide if this is the right dog breed for you, or not.
Hey there, and welcome to Smart Dog Lover! If you’re looking for a channel that features dog-related stuff everyday, then you’re on the right track so make sure to subscribe to our channel! Hi fellow dog lover!🐶 My dog Billie had so many behavior problems… she was jumping, peeing inappropriately, overly aggressive, pulling on the leash… she was just crazy…🤪 Then I found this one solution that stopped all the problems!🙌 The sad fact was…The training I first tried with my dog was a complete fai...lure.😔 I went through the average cookie-cutter training programs. These programs used outdated and ‘mean’ dominance techniques. It turns out those programs had no qualifications and were developed by complete phonies.😱 So this is what I did to stop my dog’s behavior problems... In a few simple words… I discovered my dog’s hidden intelligence!🧠
Let me explain… In my years as a dog owner…this is the one big lesson I have learned. More intelligent dogs are better behaved.👍 A more intelligent dog takes commands easier…and understands what you need from them. What I found out was… No matter how clever I thought my dog was. I could still unlock my dog’s hidden intelligence quickly and easily!😄 Don’t waste a second longer putting up with your dog's behavior problem! I’ll explain everything you need to know in the link!😁

100 agree with you. My first schnauzer and only Schnauzer off owned what's the most perfect dog ever! So intelligent she taught herself in most cases how to please me. I had the privilege of having her for 10 years before she died. Which will be 2 years in June and I still grieve... I considered purchasing another schnauzer the schnauzers all look so much alike I couldn't stand to be around her thinking it was my baby that passed.... I'm so happy that you have your schnauzer you won't be sorry on anyone... may you have very many happy years with your fur baby.

I am now raising my second mini schnauzer. They are the best dog for how I live. Mine follows me everywhere. I love to garden and so does she. When I dig a hole, she’s right there to help me dig… making it easier for me and giving her exercise too. She does not dig anywhere else, she only digs where I’m digging…. Smartest dog ever!

We have had two miniature Schnauzers. The first one died at 14, our second one is now 15, but still acts like a puppy at times. He is my constant companion, very smart, does not bark except when a large dog walks by on “his” sidewalk. He loves meeting new people and especially loves small children. He is a wonderful companion and loves to go for walks. Once you’ve had a Schnauzer you don’t want another breed. They are wonderful dogs! He has been diagnosed with kidney disease, but I cook for him, don’t give him any commercial food and his condition has improved over the last 18 months. I think the home cooked food has been the reason. A lot of dog food is not healthy.

I've had 5 miniature schnauzers at different times of my life and never encountered any of the negative issues listed. I thank God for that! But recently my Chihuahua became ill. He was so sick. The vet said he was in congestive heart failure and gave him 3 days to live. I was devastated. I began cooking for him the same day. His health turned around so quickly! Of course he was not cured, but I got an additional 10 wonderful months with him. I think the dog food industry has gotten worse and worse over the years. Cutting corners and adding chemicals to make it cheaper and sell it at a high price. It's hard to trust any of them these days. Never second guess making your own dog food. It's easy and so much better for them. And a lot of times much cheaper depending on what brand you use. Hope you get an abundance of time with your precious furbaby!

My white mini is the best dog I have ever had. Very intelligent, obedient, affectionate, and is not a fan of exercise. She doesn't bark (except at the UPS bringing boxes she perceives are Barkbox). She loves people and can be left alone without being crated in the house. She has never tried to get into anything or tear or chew anything.

My dog does not have separation anxiety. Although she can wait for 8 hours and she did a few times, luckily my new job has 1 hour lunch break so I can take her out after 4 hours. Having a job should never stop u from having a dog as long as u select a right breed, train it well and plan your day to make sure your dog gets the attention that it needs.

My experience: the beard..I trim it and only given kibble. Grooming: u need to learn how to do it to reduce the salon visits which would cost 100 bucks each times. My schnauzer is out going and get walk 30 mins twice a day. She loves to go out but u would have to carry her back if u take longer walks. Schnauzer is a smart dog and she would remember the name of all her toys. She very well behave at home, no destructive behaviour, I wonder if that has to do with the fact that I train her on every meals. I heard Schauser barks alot so I trained her out of it, I love a good watch dog but no one like a yappy dog. The fifth point, I may be lucky or my training is working but I dog does not get separation anxiety. I crate trained her and always leave her alone from early on, a couple hours at the time, oh and I resisted to not hold her for too long, instead I ask her to find her toys when she bored. Got to keep her independent. Sixth, she s very stubborn so u have to be persistence, luckily she likes her food so I always teach her at meal times. She does not like the heat so out door living is not her, luckily she odourless, does not shed and not destructive so indoor living is easy. Last point, in my experience, pure-bred is alot more delicate than the mixed breed. It means, it will cost you more, if u are not having a budget for that, get a mixed breed. I m happy with my little girl, she is suitable for busy people but love animals.

My miniature Schnauzer, Naya, is three years old. After a lot of research I decided on this breed and I have not been disappointed. She is a delightful companion. The first two-three months I kept Naya on a leash, in her kennel overnight , or in a playpen (in the family room) until we could lead her past the cats (three of them) without Naya pouncing on them and she was house broken. To keep her clean and attractive, I take Naya to a professional groomer every six weeks to two months. I agree, the miniature Schnauzer needs commitment and consistency.

We had 2 miniature schnauzers. The first one lived 15 yrs, and the second 16 yrs. They were absolutely great with the kids, smart, energetic, funny and personality plus. We enjoyed their big dog attitudes! They loved to play, cuddle and be a part of the pack. We miss them terribly. Currently, we have no pets, but at times, we would co parent my son's German Shepherd who is also so smart, playful and such a wonderful companion for him.

Reason nine: Do not get a miniature schnauzer if you do not like being followed everywhere you go. BTW, Schnauzers can live much longer than this video states. With good care, good food and regular exercise, 17 years is what you should expect. The video is correct that you must establish yourself as the dominant creature in the house.
If you do intend to get a schnauzer, go to the breeder in person and make sure they are not a puppy mill. So many schnauzers come from awful places. Both of our rescues were from mills. A despicable practice.

Best dog ever. None of the reasons not to get a Miniature Schnauzer are good reasons! Yes, mine was energetic during the first 5 years (like nearly all pets), but all her later years she was the perfect "shadow dog". Barking was never an issue (at any age). Chewing was never an issue. Slightly true is the fact that she doesn't enjoy being alone. I personally wouldn't keep any dog outdoors on a permanent basis.

Best dog ever. Have had multiple MS (> 40 years) and hope to never be without one! All were easy to train . Please socialize your pups (all breeds) as this reduces negative behaviors such as barking. For example, my current boy will give a bark or low growl if he sees someone walking down the street...that's not a bad thing. I respond with a 'Thank You, bud!", and he relaxes. (On the other hand, squirrels in the yard reuqire a little more negotiating, lol!). Training and socialization are key! Love...love....love this breed!

I disagree that they have separation anxiety. They are the most patience breed i have ever known. I missed my dog so much. Don't think we can ever replace her. 5 years now and we still didn’t want to get another dog because we felt that i could be a betrayal to our dog.

Searched about this dog on the internet and tried to get what's the breed name after a what I believed was a mini Schnauzer that was walked by his human parents stopped by next to my car when he saw my cats inside the car. First he stopped at the back to look at my 2 cats that were on back dashboard, it was 1 or 2 stop however he could move on after distracted by a passerby patted on him. When he walked towards the front side of my car he stopped again to look at another 1 cat on my front dashboard. Very friendly dog, I pat my cat to wave at him with lights in car on, mini schnauzer seemed so happy and the parents too were so entertained by his. He kept looking back to my cat few times and each time he did I pat my cat waved at him, until the parents had to walk him took turn towards the side of the building so that he's off sight from my cat otherwise he won't stop lol. What a lovely being.

5 year old one the barking/screaming issue was lessoned by one of those vibrating/beeping collars. hes super outgoing and loves people and dogs. but im a bit more introverted so he also has cat mode🤣he really just adjust to what we're doing and gives his all. whether it's walking in the park playing or taking the best nap . ive had multiple dogs since i was a kid......this is the most STUBBORN dog i've ever had. he is super expressive and often 'talks back'. he's king of side eye. he's a jealous little dude. And something I can't seem to train out is his 'mouthy' play. he is gentle but i wish he didnt love to use his teeth so much 😅.With a solid trainer this is a great breed. I trained mine myself so it may be user error. but he's a cool dude with fans everywhere he goes.

He is a barker but I have very well trained when he barks I just look at him and he stops he is very smart but he does what I tell him it takes time to train them. He is very loyal and he loves me more than any dog I have. I say buy one.

I love my miniature Schnauzer to much, I watch her every move, she loves to kill the bushes in the garden and has stripped the whole bottom up to were she can reach, she also likes to kill most plants... She is way to clever for her own good, you can actually see her mind working, she fools my cocker spaniel often. Yes separation anxiety, if she sees me getting dressed in going out cloths (YES SHE KNOWS THE DIFF) she cries and whines, she loves it in the car so take her if possible. Anyway she is a great dog 🇬🇧❤️

Eu adotei o meu com 2 anos e ele ficou comigo por 12 anos. Viveu 14 anos. Morreu do coração. Eu tosava ele de 3 em 3 meses.

Maintaining schnauzers is sometimes demanding, but isn't it case with any other dog? Many breeds have bad odor and they shed a lot, which is not a case with schnauzers. I have a white one which is the hardest to maintain :) But it just need a little discipline. And it's adorable dog, very smart and addicted to cuddling :) We adore her, it's our first child :D :D

Mini schnauzer is def bark alot!, esp alone. To minimise aggression I take my dog to daycare most week day to socialise. My laila is very sensible and smart so teaching her s easy, she is very food oriented so training is evolved around the meals time. As far as excircise is concerned she would only care for a short walk, 1/2 is plenty.

I thought the video was very informative. I have had larger dogs growing up, mostly Labs, Great Dane, beagle, etc… with those dog’s you could do anything with them and they are ok BUT; with my mini schnauzers it’s a whole different ball park. I have to be careful about what they eat, smell, and look at!(haha; kind of true) BUT I have to say they are well worth it!!!

We are mini schnauzer breeders, lots of energy and a need for mental stimulation. But no, if you are a seasoned jogger or runner your mini will not keep up, I run with my two boys but we have to keep it shorter than what I'd run by myself for my own fitness. A nice bush or forest walk is plenty for them both mentally and physically

My 3-year old mini schnauzer is about 2 1/2 weeks away from having her first litter...my first experience with a pregnant dog. I'm very excited! I do not plan on having the pups' tails docked. Even though Gigi's (the mama's) tail is docked, I plan on keeping everything natural...including NOT administering any drugs (dewormer or vaxxes) because they're not needed...they only harm.

I have a 8 year old mini schnauzer named Chancey. He was a stud dog until he was 4 years old, and we adopted him after that. When we adopted him, he had to have 28 teeth pulled. The last owners did not take good care of him at all. Now he is 8 years old and he will be having the rest of his teeth removed. 😢

Adopted a mini and I was not familiar with her breed, let alone dogs (I’m a cat person but gave in for my significant other lol) and thought she was cool and cute looking until I found out her ears and tail were butchered by the person the shelter rescued her from. Her ears are tall cropped and her tail was docked. I want to know where she came from… all I wanna do is talk to the person that had those amputations done to her… just talk🤷🏼‍♀️ She is the BEST dog EVER.

I've had mine for 13 years and i love her to death. She doesn't bark and has only groweled at one person in all that time. When he approached the car he had on a wide brimmed chinese farmers hat on and a long beard. It was a faint growel. I'm single and i love that she follows me around, i think it shows love. She doesn't bark. A girl gave her the name of Sweetie when I first got her and everyone thinks it fits her perfectly. I'll be getting another when she passes.

I had a mini and he was the best fur baby. He was silly, fun to play with, his favorite thing to play with was an empty 2 liter bottles of Pepsi, coke, or whatever. He would play with these for hours. I used to sit outside with him and watch him chaise my female German Shepard around the yard, they had a very special bond that could not be broken. I will one day get both breeds again.
