One way you can sort of tell how old that holed wheat penny is is to check for the V.D.B initials just under Lincoln's shoulder. The mint started adding his initials on pennies there starting in 1918. If it has it then it's 1918 or newer. If not then it was minted from 1909 -1917. Yeah, whoever did that kind of makes me mad too.
The old cent with the hole in it has to be between 1909 to 1917 if there is no VDB on the OBV or REV. VDB was restored to the coin but on the obverse in 1918.
I agree with you about the "holey" penny. But imagine if the hole was in another place but the date was 1922 or 1914-D. In this case ignorance is bliss!!
Awesome video dave, i do love hunting the penny boxes,,how long does it take you to open a full box of pennies? thanks so much for popping into my late night live show..AOA
I've been doing better with Loomis boxes than with any other boxes. NF string & son have been quite bad for me. With the last penny box from NF string & son, I only scored 2 wheat pennies in the whole box compared on average to about 9 - 12 wheat pennies with Loomis. When I go to the bank, I always ask and try to get Loomis boxes. GREAT VIDEO DAVE!
those were some really decent boxs here in chicago I was getting up to 60 wheats per box during covid. now 10 or so is average, I like your channel and I know you are from Illinois also.so we are getting similar mixes. One thing, 1954 and 55 are hard to find how about you?
@@DigginDave Yes i know but just comparing the amounts i maybe get 1 every two boxs for some reason i get more 30s than those two years and like you i get quite a few 1919s.I get quite a few king georges too and yes who holed it across the date thats ignorant and stupid.
Don’t let that hole punch bug ya Big Guy I got a question - now Diggin’ Dave himself is prolly waayyy too busy to answer it so if anyone sees it in the comments section and wants to take a moment to help an old dude out… so when you’re done looking at all those pennies do you have to put them back into new rolls or can you just take them to the bank and stick them in a machine??
Its up to the person what he does with them he can roll them and turn them in or if he has a bank with a coin rolling machine and access to it he can cash in there!
