COVID-safe filming:
Everything was done in line with national and local guidelines in the UK at the time of filming.
I wore a mask when I was within 2m of other people.
I went to this attraction because it is completely outdoors, and they control capacity by only allowing pre-booked tickets.
To be honest, this visit was mostly an excuse to both get out of the house, and have a play with my new camera! (link in description)
The A6400 is a great camera, I'm sure you'll put it to good use!
If you need another excuse to get out of the house try out the mobile game Ingress. In case you havn't heard of it its the predecessor of Pokemon Go where you have to go to local points of interest to interact with them.
That looked good matt. #
If you like miniature, and not just getting out of the house, you might want to do France Miniature over here.
And i mean as soon as it open since the mayor have decide to wipe it out to build apartment :(
I have been there so many times in my life, only live about 15-20 minutes away. Love seeing the Christmas set up
Used to go here all the time when I was little, then we moved and didn't go for years. Went a few years ago visiting all my childhood places, definitely recognise a lot of this!
I would like to, but it's a bit far away from me
Somewhen, I will get there
It opened in 1929..
I wonder how old the models are. Since it's outside in Britain, the weather must be doing a number on the paint.
The paint looks good enough to me that I suspect they repaint things as needed on a regular basis.
Also it survived WW2? That is amazing!
I don't think I would hire A. Jerry, builder, because everything he builds is probably jerry-rigged.
I'm not even a dad.
I didn't know they made little cable cars like that, I'm in love.
Also, I'm getting strong Hot Fuzz vibes.
is there a miniature village of this miniature village in this miniature village?
xkcd 878?
@@Uristqwerty
I think you could get away with building a model of the area you’re in, but only if you build it inside. Anything outdoors would be a _bad idea._
Bourton on the Water did that with theirs, I think.
well there was a miniature house in side the blue house at 0:59. so it would be possible.
Yes
Am I the only one who thought, "Geoff Marshall needs to a video about this, as if it were a real railway!"?
Nice video, thanks Matt for making us travel with you!
I barely go out these days because I don't drive, so travelling scares me because of the current world situation. Videos like that are nice for me to still travel a bit!
I went to Bekonscot over 20 years ago, glad to see it hasn't changed much. I used to love the "punny" shop and place names.... :D
The website implies that it hasn’t changed much since the 1930s.
Very wholesome content, video could have been longer though, I'm not finished with my lunch yet ;) Do you maybe know at what scale this is?
1:12 scale in general, and the model railway is Gauge 1. There is also a 7 1/4” gauge (sometimes called “Garden scale” though that term is used to refer to many different gauges) that visitors can ride on.
You could watch it at 0.75 speed?😉🤷
@@jpe1 Thank you, very interesting! What funny scales, I'm only used to architectural ones :)
@@abcabc-oh9gc I didn't think about that... Maybe next time ;)
next video: "Matt got universally moist"😁
Never mind the weather, a video on this channel will make every day brighter! Thanks, Matt.
I loved Bekonscot when I was young, one of the places I miss since moving away. Lovely vid Matt!
Not gonna lie: When I saw the thumbnail, I thought that you were in the Miniatur Wunderland again.
Loads of great memories of visiting this place when I was younger, I especially loved the house that would catch fire several times a day (it was intentional, not poor wiring 😄)
I love this place, evidently hasn’t changed much since I last went 5-10 years ago
Very nice. Thanks for sharing. 😊
Thanks for this video. The place where I live apparently had it's last train when I was 2 so I grew up without trains.
Also model trains are pretty cool.
This is right next to my old home in Chorleywood. I fondly remember coming here as a toddler. If you have the opportunity to go, do
it! It’s amazing
Bekonscot sounds like what Matt does when he wants to do another park bench video.
I used to go to bekonscot sooo much when I was a child, I can’t believe you went there! Such a fun place - they used to have remote control boats that I used to play on for hours but I think they’re gone now :(
I used to love going there as a kid.
Maybe one day I'll see it when it's not raining.
Leaves on the line, but it's still running! AMAZING! 👍🏽
Oh I enjoyed this so very much. Thank you Matt.
after watching this and Miniatur Wunderland back to back I have to say that I enjoyed this one much more. Miniatur Wunderland seems much more showy and more like it was built specifically as a tourist attraction where this has a more laid back feel that I like better, more like a much larger version of the sort of thing I'd build with my dad as a kid.
Bekonscot is my favourite place in all the world. It was number 2 but The Cottage Bookshop in Tylers Green (just a few miles down the road from Bekonscot) closed down a year ago.
Lovely! :) Hope you enjoyed your day out, even if it was a bit rainy. :) Its snowing over here (Sweden)!
Thanks for sharing this Matt!
As a model world fan, That is Gorgeous! Wonderfull attention to detail, filmed from awesome angels and making me wanting EVEN MORE to get traveling again! Thanks for another superb video Matt!
Sometimes I prefer your style of video making over Tom's. "Here, let me just show you this really cool thing I found, along with some relaxing music. More info is in the description."

"I'm a bit moist now." - Matt Gray 2020
An interesting display of phisics on the carrousel - it looks like it's going much too fast at 2:50, but it has to for the chair angle to be correct. The ratio between the gravitational acceleration and the centrifugal froce needs to be the same as on the large one, but if the radius is small, then the angular velocity needs to be larger to compensate. Physics doesn't scale well!
Wholesome... thank you Matt
I haven't been to a model village for years. This one is fantastic! I think it's the one I drive past on the way to my daughter's. Maybe we'll take the grandkids there one day :) Thanks for this!
Yes! thank you for the shot at 1:52 - this the kind of railway nerdery that I like! :)
I think this place is the reason I like trains so much.
Went there when I was younger, loved the place. Really want to go back there... and maybe also go back in there in a Godzilla or other kaiju costume, get some funny pics of looming over the place.
Cute!
I'm surprised to hear that you don't like rain, though.
Edit: Oh, I'm also surprised that the music isn't yours! Sounds like something you would create. :)
I laughed out loud at the Leekey Plumber's Merchant's shop.
We had something similar here, in a big park in the city, but it got closed down and rebuilt somewhere else, where it got neglected and now feels like past glory. Really nice video tho, will be visiting if I ever have the chance to!
I think that one house has been under construction since before any building/house I've lived in was built
if you find yourself in Hamburg, Germany sometime, visit the Miniatur Wunderland. It is an awesome attraction there :)
beautifully built
I've not been there since I was tiny! I didn't realise it still existed
The new camera looks great!
I love a good model village. Do they have people there operating the trains all day or are they automated? Ordered an anamorphic Moment lens for my phone to play with when I go to places like this.
I really want a train set like this
As a Hamburger I have to say it's no Miniaturwunderland, but it's also very nice.
That must takes ages to keep clean :)
You look like you're having so much fun!
Wow this is amazing 😲👌👌👌
Cool, it's outdoors as well...
this is just down the road from my parents'!
I'm wondering how are the trains powered? Are they running on batteries or is it something else?
flexing on us in the ikea jacket
Where is your mask in the starting bit?
Edit: Where is your mask in general???
Masks aren't required outside in the UK.
@@amiscellaneoushuman3516 That explains a lot then.
I wore a mask when I was within 2m of other people. I went to this attraction because it is completely outdoors, and they control capacity by only allowing pre-booked tickets. All my talking on camera was filmed even further from other people.
not sure about scale but i want mice racing - for horse race :) is there a model to scale and with trained mice?
Cool!
Why is an old model city small, when the new model army was large?
come on, i can't be the only one who misread the title as "motel city"
Arrrr, it be a bit moisty there
really blinkin small innit
Bekonscot - see also Whimsical and Meta ...You didn't show the model of Bekonscot Model village in Bekonscot model village ... Where is your sense of recursion !
I didn’t see it!
@@MattGrayYES :( - A reason to revisit ... :)
Was this in a episode of midsummer murders ?
I was wondering the same thing. That windmill looks suspiciously familiar!
But, is it all for the greater good?
The greater good...
Does the guy next to the monkeys need to pee?
Egg
No face mask?
