The trailers were extremely deceptive in regards to the characterization. They led us to believe that they made Optimus back into the noble hero we all know and love, but in the movie he's just a disgruntled war veteran. The only reason we even know that he supposedly cares for humans and his fellow bots is because we're told so by Arcee, it sure as hell doesn't come across in his actions or personality.
I loved this movie tbh. A lot of the criticism is just nitpicking. It isn’t that hard to find out that Optimus cares for his fellow autobots all you gotta do is used your brain for five seconds.
Did you even watch the movie? Optimus prime goes through an arc in the movie because he blames himself for the autobots being stranded on earth. He learns through the movie to love and care for humans because of Noah Diaz. Watch the movie.
@@tommy_swim243how does that translate to his distain for humans? He would hate earth at best with that stupid reason, it doesn’t make sense he seems like an ass.
I really liked Bumblebee and I was hopeful for movies to come, if that were the start of a reboot. It was lacking a more solid plot and was just kinda "haha girl and her robot woo", it was still a step in the right direction. But when it underperformed and follow up commentary from the studio? said "I guess we need more bayhem", they clearly didn't understand the problem.
The movie misused the maximals, and most autobots (Stratosphere was great, and support having bumblebee on the sideline for most of the film) Rhinox never spoke and Cheetor barely done anything, while Arcee and pablo were non-consequential extras taking taking screentime from the maximals Even the bad guys were underutlized, they done those seasmingly unstopable killing machines dirty in the final act. Dropkick and shatter felt like actually treaths during bumblebee, while in this movie Battletrap/nightbird never done anything significant other than show-up, fight secondary character and be imediatly defeated when confronting major ones Primal doesn't even question how airrazor group perished (who I assume were rattrap, dinobot and tigatron) and those character din't even appear at the begining. Don't say ressource/time-constrain because they modeled dozens of cybertronian in bumblebee and still found time to redesign Arcee/Pablo without forgeting Apelinq who appeared at the begining aswell Elena was the worse, the actress is quite untalented and she technically almost caused the end of the world by snooping around some random statu- ok what the fuck airrazor, how did you lose one piece of the single most important magunten your faction ow- what the fuck maximals, why din't you guys simply destroy the key when you had the chance especially since it is the one thing unicron need to locate suitable planet to consume and you clearly don't need it! Only two perished in Rise of the beast (Apelinq killed by Scourge, and rusted Airrazor who primal was forced to execute) unless you count the second group (who we still don't who/why/how) and the police officer/security guard which bring me to.. Why does mirage kill police officers ? At the exeption of one, there is no-way they survive those crashes. Not gonna start some political debate but those who made this movie talked about diversity, black culture, braged about their first transgender voice actor, had three race joke (of various caliber) sorry to think that choice might have been poltically influenced.. by the way why does Noah make a big deal about Pablo spanish accent but doesn't question (best character) stratosphere heavy scottish accent? Remember when excalibur (weilded by Cade) somehow could block giant-sword in the last knight? Less weird but still odd that Noah held Optimus prime while he was being sucked into the portal, that very same portal which was strong enough to destroy the entire battelfield, despite wearing mirage Great.. they are doing the 'expanded universe' crap with other hasbro properties. What, is cobra gonna allie himself with the decepticons when they come to earth? They used unicron way too early. Imagine if the MCEU had thanos just show-up in the first avenger film during the invasion, instead of slowly building him up into the mad-titan we followed in infinity war? Got more but I am too tired for the moment
Im going to slightly disagree with you on one thing: To me the defining factor of Rice of Skywalker was the secondary macguffin. "we gotta find the thing to find the thing". If anything, this is going back to the usual procedure of "Autobots gotta find artifact from their past before the bad guys do an evil on the world. Teenagers get involved at some point". You were right on everything else.
These movies are a job security thing, they make them so Bay's connections in the film industry stay in business. Thats okay but its like the Transformers property gets ransacked once every few years as a sacrifice.Transformers was like Gandalf fighting the Balrog and TMNT was Frodo
Well now I've watched one review that said this movie was the best of the modern Transformers movies, one that put it second behind Bumblebee, and one that said it's the worst. I guess the easy answer is to go watch Beast Wars instead.
You literally broke down the most basic troupes from action movies in the last 20years and said its the reason why RotB is bad meaning youre saying all action movies ate bad. The worst part about it is that you took on that surface level stuff and ignored the deeper things. The parallel of Optimus and Noah, the guilt they both feel because of their families being lost then their interactions with Primial how they both see this being that has lot everything and literally carries tbe weight of his race and world on his shoulders that help both charactwrs come to terms with their own problem. You never touched the struggles that noah faces trying to get a job and is blown offbythe man because he cared about his family and because he wasnt white. The conflict that bee and prime had right before bees death. So much more that i can go on all day. Yes if you only pay attention to the surdace level tropes that movie the story forward. You say the movie was bad but if you look beyond the surface and take in the things going on you can see they put actual heart into this movie same with bumblebee. It was something missing from Bay's popcorn flix. Was it a mess at times? Yes, Did it break new ground? No. But it did more than the orginal transformers movies did to try to tell an actual story.
Don't agree! Look, it was hardly a masterpiece. But it was enjoyable. It was great to see a more faithful representation of Optimus. It's hardly Lord of the Rings but it's a decent action movie.
I think summer popcorn fun is a good fit for it. Not going to change cinema but it honors a lot of what makes Transfomrers Transfomrers. 7/10 is my score. At that is from someone who will watch anything with the brand slapped on it .
I have to disagree with you Darren. First of all, you can actually see what's happening on screen! No shaky cam here. Secondly, I loved that they used Unicrom as a villain, of they used "You've got the touch" for one scene, it would be brilliant. Thirdly, this was fun and not afraid to embrace what Transformers really are: a bunch of toys you want to mash up together. I had a lot of fun watching this movie
My friends dragged me to see this, and having seen this review, I thought I was in for it. Imagine my surprise when I had a good time! Yes, certain beats were hokey/obvious, but I don’t know how to expect anything else from Transformers ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I read somewhere else because Bumblebee didn't knock it out the park with horny white american boys and old men that this movie would borrow heavily from MB. And at that moment just like the Fast and dumber than the last film franchise it was clear this movie was sadly beyond saving no matter who watched it.
Darren, I wholeheartedly disagree, although I cringe at the ROS comparison because it's true. While I do agree it does juggle Bumblebee + Bayhem, I think balances both well. It has a grounded character with good emotional stakes, dumb robot fun, and solid if cliche beats. I mean, what else do you want from a Transformers movie?
Don't a lot of people like Transformers for the political intrigue, exploration of new settings, and/or some comically goofy relationships & voice acting? And the mere premise of giant robots but that is fulfilled by a lot of sh't.
Interesting isn't it that the more desperate the film franchise has become the more willing they are to pander to fans they once dismissed? I'm talking about Prime's design mainly.
bruh people cant make up their mind. they talked abt how annoying humans were in bay films. now that they nerfed the human plot these people complain abt no human arcs in the film. stop taking critics seriously
@@superarbychief1 I still like the first one the most. bee was pretty good, but its really overrated by the critics. I mean no way its a 93 on rotten tomatoes. this new one did everything pretty well, they just need more screentime for the maximals

I'm someone who loves Beast Wars, but could never get into other Transformers media. I have no interest in seeing this movie, so can someone just give me the reason why the Maximals are so large in it? (Not really robots in disguise anymore huh?)
That’s not what I was criticising - although having to retroactively split your McGuffin to extend the runtime probably suggests you should put a bit more thought into it. I was criticising the fact that there’s nothing in this movie that isn’t a lifeless copy of already unimpressive blockbusters.
i really enjoyed this film. I watched it in the theaters 2 days ago and it was just awesome. i feel like it filled so many things between bumblebee and transformers 1 and i really just enjoyed the whole movie. might just be top 3 favorites.
Just saw this. It was boring, derivative, and lazy. Acting was crap, as was the script. A real snooze-fest. Last decent movie for me? Guardians Galaxy 3. No comparison...
Yeah thats pretty much what I was expecting from the trailers. Shame it couldnt live up to the standard of Bumblebee, because that really isnt a high bar.
You know, I have to give the Bayformer fans some credit here. When those movies were fresh and I called them bad, they didn't care or at most did the online equivalent of yelling NERD as they drive past. This movie gets a bad review, and there's four dozen people in here trying to relitigate all of action film to make this bad film secretly good somehow.
One thing I feel critics who are trying to be extremely objective need to remember when reviewing something based on other source material is that the movie needs to be critiqued within the confines of the source material and not of movies in general. For instance you can't have a problem with Spider-Man's Black Suit, you can have a problem with how it's implemented in the movie but you can't have a problem with it as a plot device because it's part of the source material and therefore the best it can be is faithful to the source material and the worst it can be is far removed from it. Or in this case you can't critique "an angry god eager to feed on the world of man" because eating planets, just like Galactus, is what Unicron does. Any movie that features Unicron is going to feature that plot and therefore that is not something you can critique. You can however critique the implementation of jumping the shark and turning the Earth itself into Unicron and then dedicating the entire movie to stopping the reveal of the headliner that was meant to put asses on seats because that would literally destroy the Earth such as was the case in the real worst movie of the Transformers franchise, The Last Knight.
@Mast3rBlast3r "the movie needs to be critiqued within the confines of the source material" No absolutely not. It doesnt matter what the source material is or how close something sticks to it at the end of the day. The only thing that matters is how well a movie is made and how entertaining it is. Nothing gets a free pass simply because it was in the source material. Movies like this are not some kind of niche market meant to appeal solely to the fans of the source materials but to appeal to a mass market. If you have to cling onto every vestigial limb and dumb choice that doesnt work simply because it was in the original to appease the fans then you are doing everything wrong. The simple face is that the critique of some plot points or characters being absolutely generic and asinine is still a valid complaint no matter how long it was in the franchise or when it was printed. There is a point where adhering to the original is a detriment and not a strength. Many things work well in some markets that existed in some period in history but absolutely do not translate to the modern day.
6/10 for me. Enjoyed certain parts and disliked others such as cringy moments that made me sigh and characters like mirage and even optimus not true to source material
I REALLY enjoyed this film. There is no reality where this film is worse than the last Bay films. This movie is not peak cinema. No where close to it. But it is fun. You need to set your expectations this way. Don't go in for the story, or a complex plot. You go to a Transformers movie to see silly car robots fighting other car robots. It's goofy, it's silly, it's wacky. It's fun. This film is a TRANSFORMERS movie. If you DON'T like Transformers, you might not like this movie. If you DO like Transformers, or are just looking for a fun weekend action movie. Then go for it.
Look I'm of the opinion The Transformers live action universe should have ended at dark of the moon. I'm still gonna be watching this Though because I'm trying to get my nephew into Transformers and he doesn't want to watch any of the old ones yet he wants to go in To this fresh so to speak so I'll just say i'm gonna go in expecting a kick in my childhood.
Dark of the moon was the perfect ending to the trilogy. You will not be disappointed by the new movie. Watch bumblebee too because that one is actually good compared to the rest.
I saw IGN's review of this (they gave it a seven), and everyone in the comments was seething about how it should be higher like a nine out of ten. People are so desperate for a not crap movie in their childhood ip, they're trying to make a bad cash grab seem okay to justify the fact that they wasted their time and money.
I do note there is a lot of emotion from people in these comments. (Ironically from people claiming my review isn’t “objective.”) That’s fine. It’s good that they care about stuff. It’s just maybe not especially healthy to channel it into conspiracy theories when a professional critic doesn’t validate your feelings. (I mean, I do validate their feelings. I just don’t let them sway my review.)
Its not wrong to take inspiration off of other Films that have success your speaking like there is something wrong with that, the film isnt ment to please everyone its ment for the original fans of transformers this is derived from the transformers comics and orginal shows and its a live action telling of comic events what your saying doesnt even draw to the fan service this movie draws too and i think its a great way to bring old stories back you may not like it but this is miles better then the bay films in there story because its accurate bud next time ((do your research)) before going off saying that this is the new low claiming that its worse then films that didnt show proper cannon if anything its the new hight of what transformers should be because it has a lot of story to tell and they are showing that
You're never going to convince me this is worse than Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, where a black coded autobot with a gold tooth cannot read and another decepticon has two wrecking balls as stand-ins for testicles. RotF is easily one of the worst movies I have ever seen, and just judging by how coherent the fight scenes were in the previews I can tell this is better. There's just no way
Imo, Revenge of the Fallen had a little bit of entertainment because of those "lol wtf were they thinking" moments. This one didn't have those and because of that ROTB is just another generic soulless mass consumer product
While I haven't seen Bumblebee, i have seen all the other live action films and this was by far the best [and the only one where I gave even the slightest of craps about the human characters.]
Transformers will never reach it's full potential as there is humans around. This movie is just bunch of regurgitated ideas from other Transformers movies. First 2007 one and Dark of the Moon are still the best of the franchise.
The characters aren't developing, they should incorporate EV vehicles into the characters to modernize the franchise. The storyline was predictable, uninspired.
Like what do you people even want from these movies? You guys whine about the Michael bay movies and the designs and in this movie they directly address everyone’s complaints but you guys still whine
From what I’ve seen it’s mostly just the critics whining. The Rotten Tomato audience score is 87%. I’ve heard good things as well. I’m seeing it for sure. Sounds like a great time to me
I wanted something along the lines of Bumblebee, an original plot that wasn't a rehash of the same plot they did in the 5 bay films of get this item before the bad guys get his item. Yeah the fight scenes were easier to watch than the bay films but they were boring as hell to watch. You don't get to know ANY of the beast, bumblebee is only on screen for maaaaaaaybe 5 minutes? And it's to pull the same scene from Endgame when captain marvel comes back to save the day. It was a trash movie.
The 7th instalment of a patchy franchise has a decent rotten tomato score . Could it be because everyone else has tapped out, leaving only the more dedicated fan base? Nah, I instead choose madcap critic based conspiracy theory
Also, as a rule, the people voting in online polls are a self-selecting group that are often highly motivated to do so. Regular cinema goers don’t behave that way. (In contrast, critics tend to see most movies, so they aren’t as self-selecting. I’m not popping by because I have strong feelings going into the movie; I’m popping by because it’s as much my job to see this as “Are You There God? It’s My Margaret” or “Across the Spider-Verse.”)
Watch the bay films… then watch rise of the beasts and bumblebee. After that, then you can try to convince me about rise of the beasts being WORSE than the bay films

@@rickyrackey7930 Yeah, but i watched the trailer. And the Transformers movies pedigree so far is that they are even worse than their trailers... So when i see multiple reviews pointing out that it's bad - i'm inclined to believe it.
The fact that they draw male and female robots made me, even as a child , hate Transformers. Why would a robot have 2 legs and arms and eyes and stuff?! And why would a robot change into a car? Or plane? Never made sense. This whole transform thing was ALWAYS stupid. Even for the 7 year old me. And I am 40 now.
the male/female thing does have a point as they're not having reproduction the way us humans do, so why the different genders. That is if you want to be hard sci fi about it. reality is that it's a marketing thing to get the little girls liking transformers as there was no girl characters in the show. Far as the rest, maybe watch the show, like the original cartoon and it'll explain it to you.
That's the problem, it's an ok movie with 9/10s but it's not doing anything new or improving upon franchise fatigue. I understand people will like it and that's just the facts. But I have issues with Large Media Platforms Giving mediocre games/movies/shows high scores to please their audiences rather than to give a truly subjective opinion and ultimately it feels like there's a lack of individuality from the human experience stated. @@legoboyJW sorry if you like a terrible movie, I'd hate to be your friend and keep getting dragged along to awful movies
So they learned nothing from Bumblebee? Dang. Cause I really liked that movie. Or maybe I just really like Hallie Steinfeld and John Cena...
The movie misused the maximals, and most autobots (Stratosphere was great, and support having bumblebee on the sideline for most of the film) Rhinox never spoke and Cheetor barely done anything, while Arcee and pablo were non-consequential extras taking taking screentime from the maximals
Even the bad guys were underutlized, they done those seasmingly unstopable killing machines dirty in the final act. Dropkick and shatter felt like actually treaths during bumblebee, while in this movie Battletrap/nightbird never done anything significant other than show-up, fight secondary character and be imediatly defeated when confronting major ones
Primal doesn't even question how airrazor group perished (who I assume were rattrap, dinobot and tigatron) and those character din't even appear at the begining. Don't say ressource/time-constrain because they modeled dozens of cybertronian in bumblebee and still found time to redesign Arcee/Pablo without forgeting Apelinq who appeared at the begining aswell
Elena was the worse, the actress is quite untalented and she technically almost caused the end of the world by snooping around some random statu- ok what the fuck airrazor, how did you lose one piece of the single most important magunten your faction ow- what the fuck maximals, why din't you guys simply destroy the key when you had the chance especially since it is the one thing unicron need to locate suitable planet to consume and you clearly don't need it!
Less weird but still odd that Noah held Optimus prime while he was being sucked into the portal, that very same portal which was strong enough to destroy the entire battelfield, despite wearing mirage
Great.. they are doing the 'expanded universe' crap with other hasbro properties.
Almost agreed but unfortunately you think having black people in a movie means it's political?

@@mad0813 *EXECUTIVE PRODUCER*
We barely got to see the maximals , same plot as the previous movies
Due to demographics and simple tastes, I genuinely enjoyed the first 3 transformers films, but ever since then it's been self parody.
Genuine question, have you seen this film?
@@kuyuke no, I saw transformers 4 and 5, and have never been given a reason to come back to the franchise.
Revenge of The Fallen sucked.
Eh, I'll still see it. The film seems objectively medicre, while being fun enough that most people don't mind.
So you're saying this film is worse than the first five movies?
No, that is just completely incorrect.
Interesting isn't it that the more desperate the film franchise has become the more willing they are to pander to fans they once dismissed? I'm talking about Prime's design mainly.
Just got back from watching it and tbh I enjoyed it, it was a good film, it wasn’t perfect but it was still enjoyable

Yeah thats pretty much what I was expecting from the trailers. Shame it couldnt live up to the standard of Bumblebee, because that really isnt a high bar.
Kermode said it was much better than the Bay ones by default because it didn't have such a pornographic sensibility
Yeah, I completely agree with Kermode. Dan Murrell also said this one was actually fun, instead of the disaster that was the Bay era movies
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
“The bar was set so low, but here you are limboing in Hell.”
It’s impressive, in its own way.
Enjoyed certain parts and disliked others such as cringy moments that made me sigh and characters like mirage and even optimus not true to source material
damn, how did I knew it was gonna be bad? I have no idea!
You should check out the Rotten Tomato scores. 87% audience score to 54% critics. I’ve been hearing really good things as well
I REALLY enjoyed this film.
