• Marvels Of The Mainlin...
The mammoth operation of British mainline steam in 2016, will go down as an improvement on it's previous year which was probably one of the most turbulent years on the mainline. This year would see some big name locos return to the mainline scene, although loco availability would see still plague tour operators and the southern half of England, as many tours were being cancelled. With eyes still on West Coast Railways, who are treading carefully after their suspensions, the rail operator are now looking to be heading in the right direction, which is paramount as this video would not be possible without the successful running of their operation !
This year's compilation covers my favourite highlights throughout the year, which features 70 scenes involving 16 locomotives. This compilation features what I deem to be my best clips of the year and the scenes are edited to provide you constant action, while still providing a build up of anticipation. There is a brief on screen intro to each scene, though I'm happy to answer any questions you have !

Hello from the U.S. I enjoy how you have showcased not only the locomotives, but also your beautiful countryside. I have come to admire British steam in recent years. It combines an impressive amount of power fitted into a limited loading gauge with a beautiful form. Galatea is particularly handsome.

I watch this, and even though I'm from the United States, I can't help but smile. I've always admired how the United Kingdom has preserved and showcased these beautiful living and breathing pieces of history so well. It makes me want to come over there and stay there just for the opportunity to volunteer to help out

Hi Liam , I was born in 1961 so missed out on seeing these beauties thunder through the English countryside , I really can't explain my fascination with these beautiful and majestic engines but it has always been there , even as a small child when I can just about remember seeing them in the flesh as it were . The Flying Scotsman has bought me to tears more than once , she is so beautiful and majestic . The Queen of steam . The scenic beauty at 24:3 is stunning. Can only dream how wonderful it will look during summer months.
Very green ! The vast majority of railway photographers prefer the late autumn colours when visiting the higlands. While the scenery is stunning through the summer months you don't get as much steam on display.

Bang on as ever Liam , hard to pick a standout from all the cracking footage but being a Shap lover the Royal Scot stands out for me and even the now retired Gordon Hodgson said 46100 was outstanding that day .

I would like to go to Britain to see them,. But, as it's a question of money, this will have to do. And it really does. It's fascinating that a construction from the twenties/thirties can match a modern train, at least on plain ground. And it also displays the nice british countryside. /Bertil, Sweden.

I'd like to know the true age of the viaduct @24:24..... there's no way horse and buggy built that back in the day.... it was just repurposed imo....
It certainly was a great year for steam, even if the network lost a legendary driver. (if I do say so myself) :)
Gordon will be sadly missed on the rails Douglas and I have many a video with his outstanding style of driving to thank him for .
