Thanks for showing all the footage of the mistakes. I believe that we can learn from your mistakes so we don't make them ourselves. My hose reel has been sitting on the floor unmounted and unused because I couldn't figure out how to mount it in a drywall filled garage. I like your backboard Mount idea. Thanks!
Very helpful video, thanks! One thing I tried and then I later noticed it on another YT vid is that you can unreel the hose and it makes maneuvering the spool a lot easier and also provides better access when it comes to screwing in your lag bolts. Thanks again!
Appreciate you showing progressions. I took off the reel (the big center nut). Left the mount lighter and wide open. Mounted the mount with lags and impact driver. Put reel back on. Had to re tighten the spring pull by leaving off hose stop and turning the reel a few turns. Hose stop back on. Easy peasy.
I made 2 steel plates out of flat stock that ran a few inches out on either side of it. Bolted the plates to the reel, then screwed the plates to the wall. Essentially extending tabs out to make mounting easier
Master Sam, thank you for showing your blunders and finally your success.I will install my reel tomorrow. And if something ain't lookin' good I will come back to your demonstrational faux pas video.
I just installed mine tonight and I thought I might share my experience. My open hole were on the bottom but that irrelevant because I am ceiling mounting. I bought my lag bolts as you did and drilled my pilots. For me, I used my air compressor with a small pneumatic wrench. This method took me about 10 minutes start to finish. Just a bit of an idea for you future viewers.
I am thinking to use a 2 X 8 backing board attached to two studs with 4 each around 5/16 X 3 1/2 lag bolts. We can then attach the mounting bracket with as small as 2" X 5/16 lag bolts. That should do the trick. Something else I may try if there is too much interference with the hose is to unwind the hose as opposed to taking it apart. We shall see! Also, all of the pictures show the hose coming off the top of the reel. IMHO, I do not really think it matters. Good video!
Man.. if this aint a project, I talk to myself while working through these issues too! LOL. 'Why dont I just go and buy some lag bolts' because theres always something wrong with the ones you have on hand sheeesh!! long enough but no washers, diameter is good but cant find socket that fits and it never ends. Good video man at the 5 minute mark I had to stop cause I couldn't stop laughing. Fine job
I drilled the 4 mounting holes and then installed 4 prong T-nuts on the back of the plywood. This allowed short hex head bolts to be used. A few packs of different size T-nuts are great to have around for projects.
thanks for this vid man, i was tinkering around with my reel myself, was just getting around to mounting it and started taking things apart, why couldnt they make the plate just a little wider jeez!!!
I have the same issue with the slots being on the wrong side. Thanks for making the video. It would have drive me nuts wondering if I had missed something. I think I may do a ceiling mount instead.
man ... I ran into everyone of those problems you were having ... got frustrated and turned to you tube to see if anyone else had done this ....... glad to see several of you out here .... helped me a lot .. thanks !!!
your mount is definately Bass Ackwords! Must have been put on wrong. Every other Vid that I have see for this item shows the slotted holes on the bottom..,,Just sayin!
I just bought one of these and I have the same issue with the mounts being upside down with the slotted holes on top. Of course I want to mount it with the slots on the bottom as it should be but don't want to flip it over. Has anyone worked around this issue or have a different solution?
@@JunkworksGarage you even stated that. So many stupid assholes on UA-cam that only watch portions of the video and make stupid comments. Good video though
Why not remove the single nut in the middle of the drum to separate the arm? No issues at all. Makes the arm very light and easy to mount. Nothing flew apart. The spring coil is within the drum assembly.
Junk works DIY Garage thank you for the video, though. I stumbled across it being curious what others have done with it. How has the reel held up? Seem like decent quality?
TIP!!! guys take the drum off the spindle/ base its 1 snap ring, most reels bases are laid out with the closed holes in line to the drum edges. mounting a 20" industrial cox reel 59lbs without the hose could be very dangerous on a ladder take them apart.
I didn't see where you made a follow up video showing the use of the reel after hooking up to the air compressor. Was it worth the money? Would you buy it again? Thanks for taking the time to make this video.
+Glenn Taylor i actually have been super busy and haven't had time or reason to use it i hope to have it set up and have a better test soon thanks for watching
i'm not positive but as far as yours with a metal beam i would use the biggest hardware that will fit in the holes and grade 8 its cheap insurance for the few you need
Use a coach screw next time, double nut the threaded end and run it in with the impact then remove the nuts and slide the reel on the bolt part sticking out, make sure you use a lock washer and flat washer. Here is a link to what I am talking about. tradeproducts.cdn.kept.com.au/sites/tradeproducts.com.au/files/imagecache/product_full/0100xxxxxxxpa01xxx01hr.jpg
Why didn't you mount it to the wider plywood from the backside before screwing the plywood to the wall at the studs?......run one and 1/2 carriage bolts from the back and use the nuts on the front side...........
that probably would have worked well had i thought of it but i was trying not to buy new hardware and just use the lag screws i used but in hindsight i would have done a lot different with this one .
I hear ya.............Guess I got lucky.....I mounted it shoulder height to a 7 foot tall storage cabinet (weighing 3oo lbs empty) drilled thru the side of cabinet and run 1 1/2" bolts from the inside....matter of no time...
@@djpapachris I did, just take the black stopper thing off and pull the hose through the rollers, roll the reel back about 3 turns tighter then stick the hose back through and put the stopper on, makes a bunch of difference.

It doesn't matter which side is up. It should be mounted with 4 - 3/8" bolts, 8 - 3/8" washers, 8 - 3/8" lock washers and 4 - 3/8" nuts.

i used 16 guage sheet metal drilled holes down the center for lag bols into a stud then drilled the 4 square pattern for the reel and bolter her up
👍
You should've used hanger bolts!! Screw to wall, then a nut n washer to bolt the reel to the wall!!!
+Jose Garcia good idea maybe next time
Bingo. There is room back there to get in a wrench.
How can I mount mine into to dry wall I can find studs for the wood mount but nothing in the middle big enough to hold it down
make sure the bord you are hooking it on is strong enough to hold it then hook that to the studs on both sides
This was hard to watch. But after you mounted it, I realized you mounted it right above the wall heater. Seems like the hester will melt the hose.
i don't use that heater anymore it's not hooked up

Hi, just curious to know if this reel is still holding good, can you please make a video on it? Also what do you think about bluebird?
its holding up great . as far as bluebird i'm not sure what your referring to.
@@JunkworksGarage bluebird is a hose reel
It’s made in India and exported
👍 i've been happy with this one i haven't looked into any others
@@JunkworksGarage can you make a small video on it, just curious to see and hear how it is after so many years
Should have just bolted to the wood first. Then screwed the wood into the wall......
i wanted the strength of the plywood sheet on the wall too but it would have been easier
Perseverance paid off.

That was painful to watch
I hope you don't do your own brake jobs on your car/truck....

When all else fails read the instructions on how to mount it duh!!!!!!
There's instructions? I didn't get any
They don't come with mounting instructions!!!
