Ask most locals in Chikmagalur where they go for their dosae fix, and chances are they will mention this eatery, also one of coffee town’s earliest. Over the last 63 years, Town Canteen, that sits on the edge of IG Road, has emerged as the place to go for the scrumptiously crisp, buttery, benne masala dosae, chased de rigueur with soft, cardamom sugar syrup soaked gulab jamuns, and their special blend filter coffee. Although I tasted these two years ago, I couldn’t miss an encore when we were filming a Gourmet On The Road series in coffee town a few weeks ago.

Town Canteen Masala Dosa & CTR Masala Dosa are THE BEST dosas and the crispiest dosas I've ever tasted. None of the other dosas even come remotely close to these 2 and not to forget the authentic chikkamagalur filter coffee in town canteen😋
I never remember KA praising one dish so much multiple times. Then definitely this butter masale dosae is a must try. Will visit Chikmaglur soon just for this 😅
My favorite dosa hotel in chikmanglur. I am from mysore. I love town canteen from 25yrs. Awesome dosa never changed its taste.

Mouth watering experience. I think kripal sir should include a statutory warning ⚠️ with caution saying: A lot of buttery experience ahead proceed with caution because we don't want sunk ships. Maybe a playlist just for Kripal x Butter.
It's surely been a while since Kripal sir rated a dish a perfect 10. This surely coveys how Good the dosae is.
These dosas are better than vidyarthi bhavan dosas. 😊

Sir, can you believe that I have been eating dosa at TC since the price was Rs.1 and 10 paise . There used to be a garden area too besides the old building you showed here at 0:38. Eating dosa during Monsoons had it’s own unique experience! I would like to share a funny incident dating back to the 80’s. Me and a friend ordered two dosas and as we finished our dosas it started drizzling so we moved to a different place within the garden area and ordered for two more additional dosas ( two dosas was a normal diet since our appetite during school days was epic 😅) The bill we received that day was for two dosas instead of four because the poor guy who was waiting on us probably got confused by changing of our places😂 . Needless to say we paid for only two…🤗 And like Charles says the dosa is still the same but the billing process has evolved… for better 😅

I request all you Food vLoggers to ensure the restaurants declare if their items like idly, dosa, vada. bonda are made using baking soda/poder. Fluffy and soft idly's can be easily made by anyone using baking soda, but its not a healthy ingredient. We see your videos and eat at these restaurants and some of them disappoint our stomach's health. Some key details would be good. If it's followed by all Food Vloggers as a standard, it will help.
It is the best restaurant for masala dosa in chickmagalur or in surrounding area.

Why is it that dosa served in karnataka state never serve sambar?
The dosa was good till few years back. Now they have grown greedy. Rs.60 per dosa is not justified. The dosa is as good as any other dosa in the town. Do not overhype. Not worth what you propogate.

Quiet dissapointed with the dosa... it was not that sort of *oho aha* kind of dosa as explained. They served dosa that was not as crunchy and as crispy as it was shown in the channel despite waiting for more than 15mins.... not a genuine review Kripal ji......🙄
