Persoanlly, what I find to be the craziest part of Macias's story is that his children were raised in North Korea by Kim Il Sung. According to Wikipedia, Kim was one of the few men whom Macias trusted and considered him such a friend that he had sent his children to North Korea to be educated not long before his execution.
I used to think Idi Amin was the worst brutal dictator in post independence Africa but after watching this video , I concluded dictator Nguema was way beyond , Idi Amin was an amateur to him .
I dont think Idi Amin wasas evil as the U.S propagated. Just because he was a pan-African and wasn't a U.S puppet doesnt mean he was 100% evil. The U.S did the same propaganda for Gaddafi and today Libya is suffering after his assassination. If you want to know who is truly evil, it is Nethanyaho who enjoys killing kids.

This is one of your episodes I watch most often because it’s so unbelievable and terrifying. People often talk about ‘mad’ leaders but in this instance it’s the literal truth. This whole shocking story is deserving of a full-length book but sadly I doubt it will ever happen. Anyone capable of writing such a memoir Macias would have had murdered. I read a good quote from a UN diplomat who was present for one of his ranting speeches - “We had no idea what he was talking about but clearly he felt very strongly about it.”
Fun fact. (well, not fun) Pol Pot was also born in 1924, was a mediocre student at best, headed an anti-intellectual anti-western regime, and was ousted (albeit by a foreign power ) in 1979. Unlike Macias Nguema, however, he would continue to receive outside support and would live for another 20 years.
@@zwiebelface185 Whose regime ? Both Macias Nguema and Pol Pot headed ultra-nationalistic movements which rejected what they saw as corrupting western influences, eg. western medicine, on anti-imperialist/anti-colonial grounds. To be anti-western was, essentially, to be pro-African/pro-Khmer.
They were truly kindred. In Pol Pot's Cambodia too, spectacles were evidence of (western) education, and therefore reason for elimination. To this day, there are places that if you walk in Cambodia, you are literally treading on human bones, teeth and hair. I think, rather than having those 'benchmarking' tours to London and New York, our noisy African leaders should be having mandatory eye-opening trips to Cambodia (and/or Rwanda), before assuming office.

Saying that education and medicine is un-african? Man, that's taking decolonialism to a new level! And to be fair, his family history explains, but does not excuse, this total blowback.

After reading his story.. wow.. Macias' madness exceeded even the Pol Pot's
@@Cyan_Nightingalenot so sure about that. He might have killed 50,000 but pol pot killed millions

Jesus christ. Imagine if he took control of a country like Congo or Nigeria, the level of devastation he could have wrought.

To Macias Nguema, one didn't have to go to school to be educated; just put on spectacles and you qualify to be an intellectual 🤣🤣
Lebron James does the same thing

His father was murdered by colonists and his mother committed suicide? That’s the same story as Bokassa! Not sure about that.
Yes but the interesting thing is he hated imperialists after? But Bokassa wanted to become one.
