My wife teaches art. I told her," hey lets watch this very creative artistic movie, you like stop motion? It has it!" She almost threw up a couple times.

my favorite part of this film was when the hideously disfigured being crushed another hideously disfigured being while traversing through a hideously disfigured landscape that hideously disfigured my retinas

I watched „Mad God“ in June, and I’ll repeat here what I wrote on it then:
„Mad God" is, as a stop-motion animation postapocalyptic horror, quite unique, and as we know unique movies get a special treatment, because their originality is usually their main and most visible virtue. In this case it is exactly so and what I enjoyed about this movie is, of course, the mad, gory aesthetics, the spectacle of blood, violence, faeces, defecation, unnecessary medical procedures, entrails and horrible abominations. On this field Phil Tippett and his team do not disappoint - everything is physical, visceral, memorable. But there is also a story being told here, and one also worth of note. Now, I expected it to be a quite straightforward reiteration of Dante's "Inferno", simply because it seems like an obvious thing to do here. And it sure starts that way - as a story about the descend of one mysterious character deeper and deeper into the unfathomable abyss. But then, about half-way, it suddenly turns into something very different indeed. Something very Lynchian in its use of biblical symbolism and striking, otherworldly set pieces. Thus, "Mad God" is not only a viewing challenge to the viewer that I fully expected it to be, but also, unexpectedly, a narrative challenge, interpretational challage, and this adds another level to its unnerving beauty.
I still stand by that words.

This film is wild. My initial reaction was feeling like I was exploring a horrific alien planet. But then some things started to click and I realized, "This is basically how our own planet works." It can be seen as cynical, but I do believe there is beauty in this film. Maybe not on the screen per se, but in the creativity and artistry on display. No matter what, when I see a film with a heavy HEAVY dose of creativity in it, it inspires me and makes me love the world and humans. If only for a fleeting moment until I once again open up Twitter.

You put so many things I felt into words. Especially the bomb not going off scene. I just want to talk to someone about this movie but I don't know anyone I could subject to it. 😢

Jake you should check out Yuri Norstein's 'The Overcoat.' 40 years in the making, still unfinished. The animation is absolutely incredible and also strangely chilling. He has a completed short called 'The Hedgehog in the Fog' which is very nice!

Tbh, I was utterly disappointed with Mad God. Yes, the visuals were stunning, but the movie itself felt so trite, undisciplined and self-indulged, I could barely sit through it.
