@@RCKickschannel I saw one of the customers at a local Rc hobby shop with this particular model all painted and built. And that same customer ended up buying another one the Kyosho optima 60th anniversary version.
I watched another video on someone who built a Fantom and you could clearly see he didn’t put the effort in like you and it showed especially on the tail fins. You nailed it - it’s beautiful and it’s a shame I missed out on the Fantom. But.. I bought the Ultima and will build it - and run it (for a little bit as there is no 2wd vintage racing around here in Holland. Look forward to that one! (Not so much the Rlaarrlllo) Keep up the good work
Wow, that Fantom looks fantastic, great work! 👍 Mine, and the JJ arrived yesterday and the World Spec is payed for. Need to get me the other Fantoms and my "Legendary" collection is complete...
Excellent work and what a great tip to back the metallic gold with camel. And a brilliant explanation on how to apply the layers for the inexperienced aerosol painter. I am a street-artist getting into RC as a fun side hobby. I saw the last video and meant to share a tip or two for this shelf queen paint job. but adhd brain took me somewhere else lol. Anyway, for those not used to painting with aerosol paints (known as 'can control' in the Graffiti scene) heres a handy tip for avoiding drips. AEROSOL PAINTING TIP: - Shake can thoroughly for the full 2-3 minutes - Depending how the can was displayed in store make sure the ball- bearings are swirled around the bottom where paint pigments settle while on the store shelf - Now before applying the paint to the car shell, tip the can upside down and press the nozzle. This releases a lot of pressurised gas in the can. Too much pressure in the hands of a beginner usually is the cause of heavy drips. - Release pressure and then hold upright and do a test spray, continue releasing pressure until the paint comes out softly and you are confident using. ANOTHER PAINTING TIP: You could also google stencil cap as there is a couple you can buy and they turn your aerosol can into a fine thin sprayin like an airbrush. Again, wise to release pressure when using stencil caps. And they do get messy the HOME-MADE ones, so be mindful of drips if using DIY stencil caps. (If anyone doesn't understand instructions for pressure releasing, or struggles to find info on stencil caps, just reply to this comment and I'll make a video for you guys and gals) happy spraying X 🎨
You have done a totally awesome job of that Fantom mate, it looks totally awesome! And backing the metallic gold in camel yellow is a stroke of genius, it works so well.
love the trinity decals on the ultima... those were my motors of choice back in the day and you always had to get the decals for trinity with a motor or have them ordered through the hobby shop. loved the font trinity used. my trinity modified motor was stolen, but i still have my trinity stock motor and i just pulled it out of hiding the other day.
It's not a massive job to swap out the chassis after you have built it, so if you want to build it now you can always swap out the chassis later if its going to be a good few weeks before you get your carbon chassis.
I got my JJ ultima, and Im gonna run it. I will put protective film under the chassi for protection. (The stuff you buy for your 1:1 car and put at the doorstep for protection, transperent film, works perfect)
rocking away to the music great stuff love how it turned out!!🤟🤟the gold paint is the same as gloss aluminum if you spray to much in one spot you get a big blemish spot !great work gav 👍
Some lovely Kyosho there. That Gold paintjob is excellent - I'm about to try airbrushing my first polywhatsit'sface shell - I'm giving he proline paints a go. I like the Tamiya cans but I've got an airbrush so it doesn't make sense to keep buying spray cans for bodies.
Looks very nice. You did the body very well. Wish I had the patience. My bodies always look like a 10 year old did them. Wow, the presentation factor of the kits is a thing of the past though. Just a box with bags chucked in it. I miss the days when opening the box was a religious experience. I guess it's down to cost, but darn these kits aren't cheap. cheers.
I appreciate your insights on the painting, for sure I went through something similar on one of my cars. Luckily for me it was covered with decals, not a shelf queen for sure, a basher rather. But I thank you for explaining it with that detail. It will help me for sure. 👍
Cracking job on the body Gav, far to much hassle for me 😂 you’ll love the JJ build, you need to get it on the track, mine drove great. Just give it more slipper if your on carpet, or you’ll eat the diff 😂 just dropped a few hop ups on mine. So now its even more stupidly expensive 😎
The Ultima shell is so very similar to the standard Optima, except for the rise at the very rear. The standard Optima is flat at the rear. Great video as always!
Nice work Gavin. Would you have the reference of that camel paint? And something I learnt from the comments: so you actually leave the can in hot water for a while to thin the content is that right? Cheers and find a good new spot on the shelf for that one!
The gold Fantom came out absolutely stunning! What a fantastic looking shelf queen. Definitely one I wouldn't risk driving. Lovely work. A question, around the 1:49 minute mark when you start showing your masking, are the thin light colored masking strips around the edges ones that you cut out or are they pre-cut? You seem to be able to get such razor sharp edges to your paint work. What masking tape do you use? Thank you and keep up the great work!
As always, your work is stunning. Just finished mine (chassis) and I am about to start on the body. The manual states to use PS42 and PS13. How come didn’t you follow it? I want to do box art but I ‘ve never used PS42 before.
I was lucky enough to get both. Looking at them both it seems they didn’t really do the nice instructions like in the other kits. Looking at the fantom manual it seems like it’s a super hard build (probably isn’t) but they cram so much info into one little square. I noticed that w the jj ultima also. Is the normal crc manual the same?
The manuals are the same really. You do get a few corrections due to 60th kit changes as these are limited runs but not that much different from normal really.
@@RCKickschannel i think I'm going to go for the box look, but with some lamé flake . . . so lamé first, then ps-42, then ps-16. and then back it with camel (ps-19 i think?) . . . .I've got a can of camel already since I'm going to be using that for my optima mid SE body :) really excited to finally be getting around to building my CRC
Great video but, I’m definitely running mine. I do not understand the concept of shelve queens…cars I buy are for my pleasure and I don’t care if they are scratched or not…and if it is a question of value, then just buy two and leave one inbox if you wanna sell it in the future. Not criticising you, mate, everyone should enjoy the hobby as they see fit, I just cannot grasp the concept.. Anyways, good video!
In the three 60th Limited Edition From Kyosho, I think the Fantom CRC-II and the Optima Mid 1987 are the best edition for the price, but the Ultima 1987 JJ is too expensive and not a good deal !!!

The Fantom is incredible. It has to be up there as one of the best looking RC cars ever. For me both the body and chassis are just pure class!

Thank you very much!
Turned out great, the smoked colour on the rear part showing the golden damper worked out brilliantly
Leaving that back section in for painting is a great tip!
Looks stunning - defo a shelf queen only!
Paint looks great!

Love the clear rear portion showing off the gold damper. Like a Ferrari. I’m definitely going to be stealing that.
I think this is your best work yet! Its beautiful
Excellent result. Looks Brilliant. Totally agree with being able to see the gold parts underneath.
Yes, beautiful.
Wonderful finish... Amazing, great work Gavin

Nice Gav. CRC-II turned out very nice. Looking forward to seeing the Ultima 87 and the new car from Rlarrlo(?) as well.

Good job, looks amazing. Still prefer that body without the option wing.
Gorgeous end result - great job done!
Go go Gavin ...good tip man cheers 🥂

I will keep mine clear though. Just put the stickers on and leave it.
The chassis is lovely. I did think about doing a half and half paint job to show off the chassis from one side.

I have a question: doing so many layers is better, worse or a non-issue when you paint a runner and not a shelf queen?
More to do with the paint you are using
Take the shell off.....let that that gold and carbon goodness be bared
