It is hilarious that yall had a problem with the stepmother getting along with the daughters. I was pleasantly surprised that the old evil stepmother troupe was not used.
I cannot forgive Netflix for spoiling Damsel in its own little thumbnail. That twist - the prince throwing her to the dragon - if it had been a twist would have made me forgive even the shitty CGI.
It honestly was a pretty fun watch for both me and my wife! Sometimes there doesn’t have to be some great script written, we were on the edge of our seats in the beginning when she was being chased! It’s been a minute since we’ve seen a medieval time movie! Was fun! Hope they bring more movies back! I like fantasy style movies 😊
So it seems like many princesses were depicted in this movie: Snow White, with the bird, Cinderella, because they needed money, Ariel, because of the clam that she was standing in front of, Rapunzel, because of her long hair, brave, because her hair was red, tangled….
They weren’t commoners. He’s “ Lord Bayford”. In the opening scene that’s their family keep they walk into and that’s their dinning hall. That’s why he’s sacrificing his daughter for their people. So Angela Basset has a reason to look so good, lol
Why does it matter if she is a commoner or a Lord’s daughter? They mix the blood at the ritual so the dragon thinks all the girls are Royal. Their social standing really doesn’t matter.
The reason the Elodie character feels pressure to ignore her doubts and go ahead is that the marriage is a political deal to safeguard her own townspeople. The ones she's trying to feed at the start. They are nobles, hence they have others relying on them.@@s.w.d4010
Im sorry I loved it lol!!! I wasn't looking for good will hunting just a movie for entertainment. Poor angela bassett was wasted I would say also yayyyyyy for 34,000
On the stepmother thing, it honestly felt someone pulled a favor on Angela Bassett and got her on board, but she obviously can't be Millie's biological mother ;___; so they made her the stepmother instead.
All I know is that from the first time I heard it: I begged if I could ever reincarnate as a human : please give me the voice of Shohreh Aghdashloo. It is like silk over granite *IT IS ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS*
Personally, I think Millie Bobby brown is picking age appropriate films for her and her fan base. I kind of look at her stuff as YA like books. It’s entertaining but I don’t expect anything exceptional. It was fine. I do hope as she ages up, her choices will grow with her.
I’m new to Fishjelly so this request may already have been answered. I’d like your take on top ten thrillers (my fave genre) of the decade, or the year, basically genre suggestions
100% agree with everything you said! Angela's accent was SO distracting, I thought I was watching eyes wide shut with the mask moment, the heroin had no ark, and the best part was when she was in the cave but I felt like it kinda got cut short when she was shown the way out.
the dragon was SO GOOD LOOKING 😍 the only thing i wondered WHY did they have to sacrifice women every few days?? the girl before her , then millie, and then her sister, and then another girl.... like HOW many ??? didn't make any sense.
Eu também fiquei confusa mas pensa comigo, a primeira garota foi morta, millie seria a segunda mas ela fugiu então eles colocaram a irmã no seu lugar, ou seja como a “segunda garota, e por fim a terceira que aparece no final
I don’t understand the whole wedding situation. Why do they need a fake wedding to do this? Why didn’t the Royal family just take 3 girls from the village, cut their hands, throw them down the cave, and call it a day? It’s not like the girls were in love with the Prince or had some deep emotional connection with him. They just met him a few hours before the wedding so this betrayal that the movie wanted us to feel did not work at all.
I usually enjoy dragon fantasy movies. However I think that I will pass on this one. Great review from you guys as always! By the way I saw "Drive Away Dolls" yesterday. I felt obligated to see this film since you guys reviewed it on my birthday. It wasn't perfect but I enjoyed it better than you guys.
While I wouldn't rewatch this, I thought it was a decent average fantasy movie. I was initially worried it would beat you over the head with how the main character needs no man and all that. But it pretty much didn't. Millie's character just survived on her own merits. Sure it was predictable but entertaining enough for what it is. I also found the CGI to be pretty good by streaming blockbuster standards. Nothing as glaringly bad as "The Flash" for example.
omg who are you? since you assume with such confidence that we care about your opinion, you MUST be someone important! so what are you known for? can i be your number one fan? 👉👈
like wow you are done with an actress that is so popular and universally known that it’s impossible for there not to be a subset of the population that dislikes her. that’s SO SPECIAL, i’m so interested to hear that
This movie was great! I love a good Dragon movie. My favorites are Reign of Fire, Dragon Slayer, Age of Dragons, and now Damsel. The world buildimg is spectacular. Angel Bassett, Robin Wright, and Shohreh Aghdashloo crushed it...go Queens! Mille B.B. handled the heart stopping action. I will be watching this several times.
I actually partially enjoyed the movie, but I was also bored halfway through the movie. I think they spent too much time on Elodie stuck in the caves. They should have developed the prince, he seemed to be remorseful and even tried explaining himself in the end. They should have explored his character more, his reasons for going along with the sacrifices and etc. There were honestly so many characters, but they did nothing with most of them. I also hate how they spoiled most of the movie in the trailer. They even showed the ending scene when she was walking with the dragon behind her after setting the castle on fire. Also, the dragons logic was stupid. Even if she was killing daughters from the different generations of the kings family, she would have still been killing innocent daughters. Also, I’m not sure how to feel about the ending, with the dragon going with Elodie to her kingdom, like what is stopping her from turning on you again? Nothing! The dragon is a killer, no matter how you try to spin the story. I empathize with her children getting murdered, but there is no excuse fot taking it out on innocent children, there is no justice in killing those that had nothing to do with her children’s deaths. The story itself was bit confusing. Why did the people have to stay in the dragon’s island? Why couldn’t they just share it with the dragon? They started a whole conflict for no reason. Overall, If I didn’t watch the trailer, I would have enjoyed the movie a lot more.
You guys definitely should watch the Millie Bobby Brown amazing film Enola Holmes movie which is much better than Damsel. You guys rememberd Robin Wright was in the iconic classic film The Princess Bride which probably was a homage to her amazing role in that movie hints the reason why she agreed to do this.... I think the dragon come with them because she could help her people survive the next winter and they actually did show when Millie Bobby Brown character cutting her hair with a sword when she came back down to rescue her sister. You guys definitely wasn't paying attention because the dragon said she could smell their Royal Blood. At that ceremony Queen cuts her son and the girls hands to fuse the blood together to make it seem that they are related😂 lol.
AHHHHH HA HA HA!! I put this movie on my list…cause I said “What the hell is Ms Basset doing in this?” It was everything you said, and yeah the perfectly cut bob?????? The bad accents???? The over costuming of the bride (which peels away at each attack)???? Anyway just a silly movie, where people got paid, no need to put this on the IMDB page.
I actually liked that the stepmother wasn't the typical evil stepmother, but tbh Angela was too much of a queen to play a broke commoner lol they playing in her face. But low-key a cool version of the film of Angela and her daughters stuck in this ethical crisis is too much better than the movie lol agree that it was poorly written that none of the family had ANY suspicions about this damn kingdom lol
'I don't know who that's for besides...Drake' 😂😂😂😂😂 They need to stop trying to make Millie sexy, I know she's a legal adult but her face still looks like a child.
A 'simpler' time when fire-breathing statues, were a "red flag" - but, just one hiccup too many after that! Sorry, I love "gruff talking Dragons for they're always magnificently done...but, this would make me root for the Dragon! Dark fantasy not dark enough☺
You guys are so funny - "Angela Bassett gets shanked...this dragon needed therapy". :D This movie had too many cheesy moments, it bordered on cringe. The Enola Holmes movies are better than this, fyi.
I didnt understand what they try to do with the prince in that movie when at the end he kinda grew at conscience saying that Floria was "too young " to get thorwn into the cave .🤨
Me and my daughter was tears at the end how she struting so damn hard down the brick road with the dragon above her 😂😂😩😩
"She really thought she was serving" I almost choked!!!!!
I couldn't understand why they were trying to trick us with the happy romance at the beginning, as if we hadn't seen the trailer 😂

I cannot forgive Netflix for spoiling Damsel in its own little thumbnail. That twist - the prince throwing her to the dragon - if it had been a twist would have made me forgive even the shitty CGI.
They showed her chopping her hair with a knife but it definitely would not have resulted in that Millie Bobbie bob! lol
I thought that elodies family was royal. They just were like broke royals.
Oooh ok.
Me too! I think Elodie said something in the beginning to her sister about "our people" as if she were talking about their kingdom
This review was chef’s kiss! And the Drake drag was top tier!
I laughed so hard 😂🤣😂
@@AllThingsShaunda 😂SAME!!!
"How can it come from your throat, but you can't get it on your neck"? "Doesn't that seem weird to you? That had me rolling.
Okay, but now I want to see the fantasy horror where the girl is left in the forest with a demon voiced by Shohreh Aghdashloo.
“These names sound like bacteria 🦠 “
Lmao
😂😂😂 you two crack me up. They want her (Millie) to be an action diva so badly.
Desperately 😅😅😅😂😂😂😂

It's a perfectly fun, if predictably sneering, review but it feels really odd that they overlooked this huge detail.
Why does it matter if she is a commoner or a Lord’s daughter? They mix the blood at the ritual so the dragon thinks all the girls are Royal. Their social standing really doesn’t matter.
@@s.w.d4010 because the review was stating that Angela basset was overdressed for being a commoner, which she wasn’t
