Happy to see you reacting to old Bollywood. So many modern remakes in Bollywood now are made from old classic songs like these. I do agree though that this song isn’t that catchy to be as popular as it was & is, because it is a very simple song, but I guess as you said there’s more context to its popularity (which I’m not sure about cause I’m from Australia 😂) I’d really love to see you react to some Mujra & qawwali songs because I’m not sure if I’ve seen you react to songs of those genres. Those 2 genres are very different & separate to all the general Bollywood pop or romantic songs. You’re pretty much an expert in Bollywood, so I have a feeling you probably know what mujras & qawwalis are 😁 but if you don’t, mujras are usually songs where a woman dances in a royal palace sort of setting in front of a group of men sitting down around or in front of her. I think the dance came from ancient Indian times when men of the royal families would sort of order those dancers as personal entertainment in their palace lol. You’ll notice a mujra straight away by the dresses the woman wears. It’s always a long dress paired with pants that have a slimmer fit. The top part is short & the skirt starts from the bust area & it has this funny small vest that sort of lifts up the boobs 😅 Qawwalis are sort of slower songs related to Islam or sufi music or something like that. Whichever one it is, they’re always religious in some way. Alot of the time, qawwalis sound like they’re just speaking or arguing to a beat 😂 they often start off slow with talking or musical arguing & then the beat drops & there’s a faster pace & then everyone will be sitting down on cushions & clapping along in a synchronised motion. Qawwalis are also noticeable by the cute little hats they wear, & also sometimes there’ll be a big group of men holding little handkerchiefs and sort of pushing it upwards in a synchronised motion. Watch "Sangam". Best Raj Kapoor movie in my opinion, is in colour, and was one the biggest hits of the whole of the 1960s. Also has amazing songs that you should react too! Raj Kapoor and Nargis were a hugely popular pairing, and also had a very famous real life affair.
You gotta watch this movie 'Sri 420'. It is one of the greatest movies ever made. It has a wonderful lesson for humanity. Please do consider watching it even though it is in black and white. You will not regret it.😊❤🌹
Mukesh was the voice of Raj Kapoor, Mannadey occasionally. Raj Kapoor helped composed his songs and music. He was a brilliant filmmaker, look at the composition of this song. His use of lighting and shades and shadow in these black and white are breathtaking. Shree420 was one of his best movie. Sangam was his first color movie I believe. You’ll love it, the songs are so good, you’ll even hear an English song in it, sung by a cabaret singer Raj K met in Germany.
Hehe, I also used to think same, that why did Nargis made such an awkward face in beginning. And you were right about that observation, raj kapoor was inspired by Charlie Chaplin but from what I have seen in old movies I do think that he didn't act always same, cause he did lot of diverse work. The song is more iconic and classic evergreen type; if you do wanna watch something fun dancey old video, watch the song " Jaha mai jaati hu wahi chale aate ho" By same pair. It's black and white but there are colourful versions of it. It has nargis and raj kapoor dancing and imagining themselves as puppets, so it's creative. In color it does look beautiful. And yes, they were famous jodi of their times. There were even rumours of affair. Ps: also watch that song "kaise paheli hai yeh kaisi paheli zindagani" From movie parineeta, it's has Rekha so old actress but song is from 2000s and sung by sunidhi chaahun in a very smooth velevty tone. And aesthetics are western elegant jazzy club type, very beautiful to watch and listen.
