  • Amazon's highly anticipated launch in South Africa has finally arrived, but with a whimper rather than a bang. With a limited product selection and restricted payment options, the e-commerce giant faces an uphill battle against local favorite Takealot. As the two companies clash, shoppers eagerly await the launch of Amazon's own products and the annual Prime Day shopping extravaganza. But will it be enough to surpass Takealot's head start and seamless logistics? The stage is set for a thrilling showdown.

We need protectionist measures and policies. We can’t let all SA companies fail…. Shein has decimated Superblist and other SA retail stores

It‘s a marathon for Amazon. They are playing the long term game. New market entries take months if not years to be successful

Takealot has never turned a profit in its operating history. Amazon is one of the most successful companies on the planet. Doesn’t matter how good you think Takealot are right now, ultimately Amazon will take the top spot.

Should Amazon achieve success in the South African landscape the consumers will win, but I believe Takealot have suffered due to the difficult South African environment. If Amazon is able to get around all the challenges it may mean the end of Takealot and unfortunately an exit of revenue to another international company.
