It should had been a movie, and no Leia or Reva. Should had only been about Obi-Wan and Darth Vader
I think that some fan made an edit of the series and transformed it into a movie and works way better than the series.
The worst part about the original show was the inclusion of princess leia. It has nothing to do with the poor little girl who played her either, it just doesnt work narratively and makes the whole series feel like a rescue mission rather than a character study of kenobi
It felt Logan (2017) but if Logan didn’t make sense
I don't agree at all. A whole show of Obi-Wan watching young luke be a kid sounds like lassie to me. Clearly, Leia had a backstory that went unexplored even in legends. Also, the message from Leia in ANH sounds like Leia knew obi at some point. "General kenobi, you fought for my....." just didn't sound like they didn't know each other.
You can tell it was going to be Luke but Kathleen Kennedy had to push for women and diversity above everything else. The South Park parody is so true. The same happened with The Mandolorian which is why that woman was the focus of series 3 rather than Pedro Pascal's character.
Why do people bend over backwards to avoid criticizing chold actors? Yes she was terrible, distracting.

Why would they make a show about a Jedi clearly behaving like a Jedi around a young Luke Sywalker, who would have to magically forget everything in "A New Hope" rather than Leia, who clearly knew who Obi-Wan was (in the SAME film) and had a better grasp of the Jedi Order all things considered? Use your head more than your typing fingers.
This movie was so much better. It was so well written and a much superior version of the show. Damn you Disney. Thanks for covering this!

Disney has failed miserably with Star Wars. It’s fucking pathetic at this point. The sequel trilogy was horrendous, Solo: A Star Wars Story was a mess, with a huge miscast of Han, almost every tv show on Disney+ has been garbage, except for the first 2 seasons of the Mandalorian.

Vader roasting Sidious on Yoda would have been wild to see! An over cocky Vader transitioning to the Vader we see in Empire and Return would have been cool to witness.
Pretty sure that's what we see. That's why he's so brash in Kenobi but knows Obi-Wan's plan in ANH.
One of the problems with the Kenobi Show, is wasting time on ancillary uninteresting characters like Reva. It would have been better off as a character study of Kenobi and Vader, the rise of the Empire, and the beginnings of the Rebellion. Instead it was about Reva trying to kill Vader, Kenobi, and Luke as misdirected revenge for Order 66. For those reasons I’m sure some people will be turned off from watching upcoming seasons.
I also imagined Reva trying to kill vader at some point and obi wan saving vader/Anakin, assuming he could turn Anakin back to the light.
It would keep the episode IV duel more interesting imo. Now it kinda lost some emotional weight?

That is the most amazing thing about the Empire .. the Timeline .. I mean everything Palpatine achieved happened in a timespan of 20--30 years .. which is in my oppinion the most unrealistic part.
The part where it would've explored qui gon actually showing obi wan and us how a jedi is more powerful in death than in life AND explicitly said "this isn't a spur of the moment" sacrifice 🤤🤤
Dude they played us with Qui Gon, they were up front about him appearing….whaddya know! He’s only in the last 30 seconds, if that isn’t a huge “fuck you” I don’t know what is….oh right! Yes I do, an Obi Wan show propping up our shit new character no one cares about, she was stabbed twice by lightsabers (one time a child) but she so tough women mmmhmmm lol shut the fuck up Disney

We rlly are in the dark timeline where all that Star Wars has left are streaming exclusive TV shows…. This trilogy would’ve been amazing and the scenes between Kenobi and Cody sound awesome

Fun fact: I can't remember exactly but there was a reddit user who took the entire Obi-Wan miniseries, took out all the bad/unnecessary parts, left the good stuff in, and condensed the entire series into a 2 and a half hour movie and it's such a great improvement! I even downloaded it onto my phone
I just finished watching it! Kai Patterson is the guy who did it. You are right, he removed the vast majority of the bad stuff - there are some parts you just can't cut - and it makes for much better viewing. Reva becomes much more of a back character which is a shame - I think there was a lot of potential for her - but there wasn't anything that could be done about that given the way they had written her in the original version.
I watched it and agree, it was a big improvement.
Wouldn't taking out all the bad parts actually condense it to about 2 and a half MINUTES?

It’s a real bummer this trilogy didn’t happen. Sounds like it had some really cool and interesting ideas, plus more Qui-Gon Jinn in my book is always a good thing
I don't think Darth Maul would have worked in this trilogy for reasons B&B stated in the video.

Eh I mean Lucas already did that with the prequels too. “You like boba fett? Here he is as a stupid kid!” Disney isn’t the first to try and make things more appealing to young people by including kids.

The Force Awakens was vapid member-berry bullshit fuelled by a lazy retcon; Last Jedi was a smug piece of anti-storytelling that thought it was being clever by telling you the story you didn't expect, while failing to tell an interesting story in the process, let alone discharge any of the responsibilities of the middle chapter of a trilogy.

Think Disney should have done more of the special presentations like what they did for werewolf by night or Guardians Christmas. A 45 to 60 minute mini movie. Like a comic book. No filler. Keep the main point the main point. Don’t add extra characters or plots that take away for the main plot. Just a quick adventure/story of a familiar character or introduce a new one.
Star Wars could have done that with boba fett and obi wan. Marvel could have done it with she hulk and secret invasion.

7:56 Though I think he already had that scar by the end of RotS (may be wrong), that actually sounds really neat. Not all Vader's scars look like burn wounds, and he's is no stranger to being in the thick of things and taking some hits. Just a small thing that adds to his legacy, so to speak.
Plus he gets his helmet cut off, like, every few years. I guess it's doing his job, keeping him from getting extra scars.

I will never forgive Disney for how they handled the Kenobi series. And I will NEVER forget the original concept trailer from 2015-2016. GOOSEBUMPS. It looked like The Revenant but set in the desert. He suffered in isolation, learning to speak to Qui Gon, coming to terms with the fall of the Jedi…it was hard to watch. It was so painfully beautiful. I’ll never forget the shivers I got when I finally heard Qui Gon in the trailer. Disney has scrubbed the internet of the original concept trailer.

Reality is often disappointing. I blame all this on TLJ. If it weren't for Rian Johnson, people would've at least given Solo a chance and continue on with this.
As much as I do like the Obi-Wan show for what it was (yes, even Reva), I won’t lie and say this doesn’t sound better than what we got, ESPECIALLY the Commander Cody and Reva subplots

There was this scene in a novelization of Obi Wans life i read as a kid where this ex Jedi now runs with Tusken Raiders and they're going to raid the Lars farm or something and Obi Wan takes him on in a duel. I forget the name of the guy, he was a big character in legends I think, but I wish they brought back that storyline or something like that where it's more scaled back and have Obi Wan becoming this Ronin type figure we get a glimpse of in A New Hope
I hold out hope at least two more seasons of Obi-Wan could be told to finish the trilogy idea.
Man... It really hurts to watch this knowing what we could've gotten... A high budgeted character study trilogy of films centering around Obi-Wan... With Vader/Anakin, Maul, Cody, and Qui-Gon being key elements to this overall story as they're all connected to Obi-Wan. The guilt that Obi-Wan has for Anakin can be attributed to his self blame of allowing Maul to kill Qui-Gon... It would've been perfect to have Maul in this story and wouldn't have taken away from anything... In fact, it ties up many loose ends with what happens to Maul and how he got stranded on Malachor... And how he appears to be familiar with Vader in Rebels. The character of Reva was painful to watch in the series as the whole show centered around her... She's the apparent victim... Ugh... At least with this, she's just a tool of the darkside who gets dispatched. I'm actually writing my own Obi-Wan story, taking small aspects of what was originally intended and utilizing a lot of my own ideas.

Dang, I just got to see this nice job again B&B. I can see why Disney chose the series route since it was popular then, and this was made around the time of the pandemic. That being said, A Star Wars trilogy on Kenobi would’ve been a nice way to not only gain new fans once the pandemic ended but also welcome back old ones to the theaters to Star Wars movies and could’ve added to help the theaters with possible financial hits. It just adds to Disney and Lucasfilms current trend of wasted potential and playing safe.

I definitely think the whole thing with bringing back Commander Cody would have been amazing, seeing the back and forth banter between him and Kenobi would bring an element of humor to an otherwise dark story. Also, I would have loved seeing the "Force vision" duel between Obi-Wan and adult Luke on Mustafar, that would be epic!
Considering Iron Fist's rumored inclusion in the Shang-Chi sequel please do a What Could Have Been: '2000's Marvel Iron Fist Movie' at some point, with 2003's Hulk writer John Turman having done the screenplay, starring Darth Maul's Ray Park as Iron Fist and Beyoncé said to have played Misty Knight.
Everything you describe is infinitely cooler and truer to the source material than anything Disney could conjure up

The poor aim of the storm troopers in A New Hope was an intentional by Darth Vader. He didn't want them dead, he wanted to track them, thus how they found the rebel base towards the end.

Disney has had ample opportunities to make satisfying productions that make sense, but refuse every time.
If only we had gotten this originally planned Kenobi trilogy. Stuart Beattie clearly is a Star Wars fan who put a lot of care and thought into his script and planned films. I don't understand why Disney would think even changing from film to tv that they should have replaced Beattie and so much of his fantastic story.
Deb chow shows she doesnt know what fans want! This script is awesome and we all wanted to see the scene from Rebels as live action. Wouldve tied into Ezra and gang pefectly. The symmetry of obi wans vision fighting luke to mustafar and lukes dagaboh scene…👍🏻

Damn what a shame; Beattie's script sounds generally better than what we got- still, i was still fairly happy with the broadstrokes of what they did with the Obi Wan series, despite some stupidity (most of Leia's role, Reva surviving after being impaled by Vader)
Of all the Star Wars lore that Disney bolloxed up Obi Wan was the one that should and could have been a slam dunk if only they'd done it right. But alas the dark side is strong within the House of Mouse, though they've definitely been reaping what they've sown. Thanks again for another great video!

This had so, so much potential to be amazing. I enjoyed Kenobi, but this would’ve been significantly better.
Perhaps there's a way to save this debacle by bringing Stuart Beattie in for a potential Season 2 & 3. I wasn't impressed with the show and don't think there's much story to be told but Beattie seems to have a solid idea and I'd be down to see a continuation and fullfilment of his story.

We never got what the third film would be about. I wonder if it would've cover Maul and his loss of control of Crimson Dawn and him getting stranded on Malachor... Its a loose end that needs tied up properly. He could fight Vader as we heard in Rebels Maul is familiar with him...

Besides the writing of the sequels, the biggest mistake Disney made was dropping Lord and Miller from Solo which let it underperform after TLJ and incentivizing Disney to make shows instead of films.
The part ur missing in between all that would of been vaders attempt to get his wife's body amd invade her mausoleum and finding out shes not there and also him relising he wasnt at fault for her death and building his new temple these are used in comics and also mentioned during the other star wars series

The Cody stuff sounds amazing. I wonder if Hayden would have returned as Anakin though. If nothing else, maybe that’s the saving grace of the show.
I heard recently that another reason "Kenobi" didn't become a movie was the change in Disney leadership; Bob Chapek thought that streaming episodes would have more revenue than films made for theaters, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic...
