I knew there was a reason to stay up late, I wanted to see if you did this right. Lol... Looks like it's gonna be a winner and the color does just pop. It's perfect, just like we talked about. The white trim really adds to it, so I'm going to stop gushing about this build and actually watch it. You da man Jeff, awesome.
+Tom Muhleman, Jr. thanks for the comment! Made my day!!!
I'll be laminate in my mini drak soon, glad I found this video, I feel more at ease now lol. Thanks!
Thank you very much for explaining.
Just building my first mini drak.
Very fun to do with this model .
I have a question before I go further.
What is the best way to get sharp lines between the gun metal gray and the blaze green ?
Leave the tape or remove the tape when plastidip is still wet.
Thank you very much.
Erik
Jeff, there a couple of different types of lam (Aloft carries them both) and I'm wondering what type you like. On my Drak I used the heavier one that Chris supplies for the wings and the lighter (CL??) type for the fuse since it conforms to compound curves a little better.
Very skillfully done Jeff! So clean.
Thanks Håvard, enjoying your channel as well!
Great video. How bad will it mess up that plasticdip paint it you touch it with the iron? I know you mentioned in another comment that using Rust-Oleum 2X now is better. And have you seen anyone hydro dipping the mini drak? Didn't know how much water the foam would swallow.
Good job Jeff !!! Like wrapping tricky presents ... 😉😎
Nicely done and well explained. This has helped me a lot. Thanks for your time and knowledge.
Cheers, dave (Hawki)
Glad it helped-- amazing wing!
I've done 2 coats of min wax on my ar wing pro, just wondering if I can laminate over it still, any advise will be great. Thanks for all your videos
How does it glide? I'm looking for a 3-4 mile FPV rig. This looks like it wants to fly fast, no one seems to fly them slow in their videos.
Great video Jeff, about to laminate my Z3, first time laminate for me, but you gave great pointers! Thank you, Cheers!
+RCLateBloomer I'd love to fly a z3!!!
I'm building a Z3 now. Love it!
Good one. I wondered how you did it
How do I know where the CG of this Model is?
Where do I put the battery?
That was pretty dang good. I lost all fear about laminating my Mini Drak build.
It’s not hard, any mistakes are easily covered up too...
Hello ..... when you said plasti dip paint would that be plastidip spray paint CO’s I can’t find a paint that will stay on my wing great vid too
can you use a heat gun to help shrink out areas that have compounding curves?
I'm laminated my first plane in black & fluorisenc green too)) Black, cuase you see it good on all variations on the sky background. But I've bought extra colour laminate foil for it. & I see you first painted it, & after that you laminate it. Maybe its cheaper. When i can find a laminate roll.
Do you bother with using any spray on adhesive? Like 3M 77 or 90?
None needed, however, it wouldn't hurt...
Hey I’m interested if you based the blaze green on the white or if it stays that bright on the grey?
I used white first then blaze green. If you spray the green on top of a dark color it will look darker
nice work dude
Great video!
Thanks!!
Hey thank you for this! Maybe a dumb question but I noticed that the carbon fiber rods are not installed in the wings. Question being do you feel the laminate is strong enough to leave out the CF rods?
Noooooo…. Lol
Okay thank you! I guess the rods were there I just didn't see them.
Would it be best to cover the bottom first followed by the top? The join would then be facing aft and less likely to peel off in flight. It has happened to some film coverings I've heard.
The seam is facing the trailing edge- no chance of it coming off ...
Not wishing to labour the point but the final seam (on the bottom) does appear to be facing towards the L.E.@@7demo7review
Where do you get that laminating film? Cant find it anywhere. Thx

Hi man, excellent job as always. What is laminating procedure atm, i mean in end of 2018 ?
If you can provide exact names of "spray types" whitch you recomend / using that would be awesome :)
Cheers !
For the Drak it process is - spray 3M-90 adhesive first- the spray your paint of choice- rustolium for plastic does well. Then laminate if desired
I know this is an older video, but do you recall the green paint you used?
Green Plastidip
hI! good work subbed!!!, the paint is plastidip?
Yes, plasitdip however there is a new standard- spray a light coat of 3M90 first then spray Rustolium 2x coverage plastic paint. Gives better adhesion and more color options
Hey there. Have you got a video on the paint job?? Thanks
No, the latest greatest way to paint theses is to spray a light coat of super 77 first then regular paint
Jeff Yang thanks Jeff for the speedy reply. I’ll look up the super 77 to see what that is and whether you can buy in UK and when you say regular paint? Do you mean any spray paint? I’m gonna steal your green design ❤️
Nice!
Is the laminate removable?
Are you able to use a heat gun with this laminate too?
Thanks again for the informative video.
after you fly into a tree and it breaks into 10 or more pieces you can peel it right off i think...
Perfect. Do you recommend gluing stickers before or after lamination?
It’s really up to you
ok, but if I hit them after rolling the wings, will it allow me to remove the stickers or does the film come off? Thank you very much for the help
What are the fuselage dimensions and overall wing width?
+Carlos Cunha this was a customer build, I don't have a large Drak to measure
what did you paint the drak with, I know you mentioned it but hard to catch, thanks mate
+atmm89 plastidip
thanks mate
@@atmm89 Isnt Plastidip paint a rubber coating... sounds very heavy.
Did you have to 3m90 before plasti dip?
No
Looking very nice....Thanks.
Thanks!!
Can you tell me how you paint with Plastidip? do you thin the paint? do you use a primer? Regards
I didn’t use primer but I got some lift in spots. I hear best way is to explain super 77 first then plasty dip
@@7demo7review Many thanks.
Hi Jeff what paint do you use on the foam
Only use Plastidip in spray cans... they sell the brighter colors at pep boys or on Amazon
Hi Jeff. Isn’t this a temporary paint? Just wondering how it has held up over time?
VERY GOOD VIDEO! NOW, WHERE DO I FIND THIS ELECTRIC IRON TO BUY IN CHINA? WHAT IS THE SPECIFICATION AND MODEL OF IT? THANK YOU!
Will it be OK on my buffalo
+ritchard bees you might test it first- I've never tried plastidip on epo
Laminate? Or is that Monokote or Ultracote?
3mil laminate
«cm, no sorry mm» 😂 Great video, thanks! (110 cm = 1100mm)
Yes!!! Lol
is there a way to get rid of the foam's texture
What do you mean?
@@7demo7review i mean that you can still feel the texture of the foam, I have an ASW glider and I'd like the foam wings to look more like the plastic body rather than shinier foam so I was wondering if there was a way of putting it on smoother, or maybe you can sand it or paint it?
Laminate is always super smooth but the heat will give the foam “alligator” skin due to the cells.
@@7demo7review maybe I could use tape and put the film on that? I saw that you're supposed to use a heat gun to get rid of wrinkles when you cover hollow wings so maybe that?
I wanted a nicer glider to use with long range fpv but the fine hollow fiberglass bodies cost an arm and a leg. . .
Why nobody says the temperature or the matéria they are using?
Medium heat on the iton
@@7demo7review thanks 😊 and what film is this? 75microns?
@@7demo7review also the spry paint?
Thanks
The first thing I learned about laminating is that your CG Changes... Nobody Mentions that..
+Little Ricky'sFlyingCircus this is true
3:50 it needs to be cantimeters not milimeters
3:40 not 3;50
@@wagon7052 yes, cm not mm
prefixes are just too much, what the Hell, let's just call it like Granny did in the Beverly Hillbillies. One lill bit by one right smart. Screw Metric dog nabitt.
i will laugh so hard if that crashes on the first day XD
