I purchased a pro XP and intend to use it at the Oregon dunes. That is why I wanted the turbo. With that said, I have riden the trails around my home in Northern California and my opinion is that the pro XP is total overkill for trail riding. It can become a handful very quickly. With that said. I still really love the Pro XP. No regrets!
As someone who started with atrail 50 and moved up to a XP4T and then to a XP Pro Ultimate, I can say the money is well spent for all day comfort and confidence. The adjustable suspension makes the ride ALMOST always very plush. I agree though, if you do not have 30k to dump into a SXS don't sweat it, get a sport and you will have just as much fun.
We just bought a trail s 1000 and love it. My wife likes the slower paced scenic rides and I like the fact it has good power for more spirited driving. She feels safer with a cage and 4 point harnesses than on the 4 wheeler. The trail s is close to perfect for us but you won’t go wrong with either one. Just depends on what fits your needs or budget. The main thing is to get out and have fun.
Thank you guys for the videos. I’ve built my S 1000 for the tight woods and I always blow peoples minds when a 60” S rides better and is faster in the woods than an XP. (Not talking about an XP PRO but an XP) 13” of built, usable travel with 100hp is really all you need in the woods. There’s a limit to how much power you can actually put to the ground and how much travel you can use. Especially when you start to factor in the added size and mass of the bigger machines like an xp pro or x3 or etc. Quick and nimble always wins in the real “woods.” 😜
Had a 2016 rzr1000s. It was awesome in tight trails. With upgraded springs it really handled well. I probably would of got another one but there was too long of a wait for a new one. I was able to get a xp1000 premium and as much as I love the new machine, and better ground clearance, I do miss the S model in some conditions. The extra 4 inches of width and longer wheel base does make a difference getting through really tight trails.
The trail S is one hell of a machine.. for the heavy sand hill climbing ok the Turbo. But even then the fun you will have for the price you can’t go wrong with the Trail S.
Honda Pioneer 5. Kawasaki Teryx S. New Can am Maverick X xc. Speak to how easily a CVT belt can be changed on the trail.. access is key on these machines (with the exception of the Honda). More trail riding, it is most of what we do in my neck of the woods.
I 100% agree with you guys. The Turbo is obviously an awesome rig, but I think it's a good idea to really assess your intended usage / needs and wants when buying a rig. Knowing I was going to be predominantly trailing with the wife, I purchased the 1000 Trail S. It does extremely well in that environment and definitely earns its "Trail" moniker. That said, I've also hit some sand and flat out fire roads. Overall, the rig does really well in those conditions too. (If you are riding in sand more often, it's definitely worth it to go with the Trail S Premium or Ultimate to get that 1,000 cc's and extra 25hp.
Love the change up of videos, need some more of these. And basically what we're saying is if you got the money get the turbo otherwise get the smaller one. Majority of western Canada doesn't have the smaller trails or regulations like they got in Ontario and area.
I've got a 2017 1000s and live in the phx area. From trails, rock crawling to the dunes, It does everything overall pretty good and doesn't run out of power often. Purchased it new in 2017 based on watching one of your other videos comparing it to an xp1000. It's been a great machine, thanks!
Great comparison. We need more of these and brand vs brand, even class by class. Polaris and Can-Am get way too much attention across all media. This was great because it shows that you don't need big and bad. I recently drove a 2020 sportsman 450 and was shocked how much go it had. I was expecting a lot less.
Im a Trail S person, I enjoy being in tight places and going where the big machines dont want to go .I'm 75yrs old an d had to stop dirt biking.and go to a roll cage With age comes the cage ! I dont need all the power of the Trail S but its good knowing I have it , maybe thats a guy thing., love the post 👍👍👍
I just got ride of my 2019 xp rock & trail , I loved it ! Had a blast with it and it climbed some crazy big bolder hills , but I can’t wait to get my 2023 rzr turbo r 🙏🏼😬
Just sold my 1000S but never had a complaint other than high speed rough trail riding. It was an amazing machine but after taking a ride in my buddies XP I knew I had to upgrade.
I always come back to ergonomics. I think it is the most overlooked feature of side by sides. It is perspective for sure but who wants to be in a machine for more than an hour or two that leaves your knees and back aching? Thanks for the video.
@@jeffmorse5599 I've not seen a Pro XP. Most comfortable unit I've sat in is the X3. Seating position is great. If it had a telescoping steering wheel, it would be perfect. But it isn't as good in tight turns as the Maverick Sport, not sure about the Polaris.
It's also more powerful and more capable than 30% of cars nowadays. Polaris and the other manufacturers hired actual automotive engineers to help create these things. I considered taking a quality management role with them when I was working automotive some years ago. They had some effective recruiting efforts at the time.
for the cost difference between the trail s premium and the sport pro xp I just decided to get twice the machine for a little more. even if I don't use the turbo as much it'll be good to be able to "baby" the turbo her the same terrain.
1 minute race and 2 seconds. Thats really is huge. Reality is the fun factor is 100 fold in the turbo. Had both and I would never go back. With that being said the trail RZR is awesome and got me hooked.
Anyone know where the fire roads they rode the RZRs are located? Been looking for new trails to take my YXZ side by side. Not a great technical trail machine so been looking for more wide open type trails. (from Barrie Ontario area)
You proved just high up the bottom line is, we all know that the turbo is just an absolute blast to ride, and the fact that the little brother keeps up so well that its a great viable option to someone who doesn’t wanna put out that kinda money but still wants to ride. Personally I love turbo’s but don’t want any, just that much more things to break for the average rider.
Sounds to me you need to meet in the middle. PRO XP might have to much power on gravel roads where the RZR-S was planted. RZR-S was fishtailing and not as fast smooth as the wider PRO XP. Answer: RZR XP 1000 RZR PRO XP (64" wide, 181 HP, trailing arms) RZR Trail S (60" wide, 100 HP, A-arms) >>> RZR XP 1000 (64" wide, 110 HP, trailing arms)
Been saying this for years. We ride East coast tight, rough trails. We ride fast and hard. Turbo has no benefit here. My buddy recently went from S1K to XPT Dynamix. He said the first thing on the new machine he’d be willing to give up is the turbo.
Probably because 1000cc is already an insane amount of power, especially when turboed. I can't imagine any scenario when you would actually need it. Any bigger displacement would probably be for bragging rights...
By law in most areas anything over 1000cc's is no longer consider an "ATV" (or SXS in this case). It then falls into the "offroad buggy" category which comes with a whole pile of extra rules and regulations. I was curious about this as well... so I asked the guys at can am and this is what they told me.
I have a trail, 2020 fox edition and i would agree it is very squirrelywhen on throttle both in corners and lose dirt/ gravel. i do like my trail. here in wyoming there is a ton of 50" trails i was able to hunt in that most could not, score for me.
is the trail s cool? how does it handle "whoops" compared to the XP? We have a narrow toy hauler that baaaaaarely fits out 900 xp (width). Should we upgrade to the Trail S Ultimate or XP premium?
I have a 2022 1000s and love the way it handles , I like to drive the way you did in the video.. I see on another video you upgraded the tires to 28" for rock crawling. With those tires do you think it would still handle as it did in this video? Same speeds and getup and go handling ?
Would you guys know what’s going on with Polaris on bikes being ship out to dealerships I ordered a ranger North Star mid March told me be in by June and nothing yet still waiting is it all of Canada our just Quebec with the delay
It is the same with all the manufacturers. Just COVID-19 hold ups because plants have been shut down, etc. Supply chain issues with trucks and cars as well and lumber prices went through the roof because of supply chain issues. Only just coming back to normal. Great opportunity for employment.
The add that came up with the lawyer talking about Polaris and the lawsuits for these side x sides catching fire was pretty pathetic! Can’t believe they targeted your channel... WTF..
From a longevity standpoint, did they just tack a turbo on the existing engine, drive train, suspension? Where's my engineering details. You didn't even drag race. And you're telling me the non turbo is just like normal mode?
I think this video proved it actually IS very close... in certain situations. Not in all situations. However, there is a MASSIVE price difference between these 2. We didnt ever say the 1000S was BETTER overall... just that it has advantages in some situations and isnt THAT far behind the pro XP in others.
@@pavmentsurfer13 I understand your point riding situations vary and drivers vary but same driver in the same seat no comparison. Do the RZR TRAIL S vs MAVERICK SPORT!!! 🙏🏼
Yes!
That would be very Logic
But I am Not Sure If they are allowed 😉
I wanted to see like Trail S 1000 vs XP 1000. Be more money comparable
