Just did the fluid swap. At 99k miles I had a grind going into 5th when the trans was cold and it’s completely gone now and it feels great. 10/10 would recommend
Are you sure you are shifting right? With all due respect, you don't sound like your smart or know how to drive.
I have a grind going into second so I hope this will fix it
Btw, scheduled service interval for trans fluid replacement is 60k miles.
hey did this fix it, its kinda hard to get into second from first and clunky, did yours get fixed?@@2slow5oh
@@2slow5ohDid it fix it? i have a grind going into 3rd have to shift slow for it to not grind and even then it’ll occasionally grind
I just put this oil in with the additive and it has made a world of difference. So smooth now feels like a new transmission! Thank you for posting this video! 🔥👍
Did you use the whole bottle of additive ?
Lies
I changed from factory oil after I had trouble shifting into first when waiting to turn left. Switched to Redline MTL. Smooth shifting ever since. I can get about 50k miles before it needs a change; as soon as shifting is sometimes stiff. Expensive but my MT-82 shifts almost like an old school BMW!
I feel your pain. A previous house had the setting sun just baking the garage. My new place faces north, nice and cool in the garage.
I just ordered this kit brother, thanks for all the information about these mt82 issues. Great video bro!🙏 I pray this work for my car.
Did it work for you?
Good question. I ordered a kit. Hope it works
Thanks for your video, transmission is being rebuilt as we speak. Suppose to be done tomorrow or Monday, so I ordered your recommendation
I’ve done both except I had bg in winter and amsoil in the summer sooo not same temperature but both oils when warmed up felt and functioning the exact same if anything the amsoil cocktail feels smoother in my opinion the only difference of getting a better feel is a short throw shifter and aftermarket clutch with a stain steel line
I still have the factory clutch and everything, only thing I have is a steal braided line. BG helped amazingly, cold mornings are way smoother and it somewhat helps the lockout.
Nice man! That's good to hear. I hope people interested go through the comments and can read these reviews
Thank you for the great tip Jacob, I think I will order the kit and give it a try. I really think it will work. Stay safe buddy. 😎👊👍
No problem man! Let me know how if you experience the same results
@@JacobRDoty Will do 👍
I just tried a quick 1-2 shift after installing Barton shifter, just to see what kind of improvement i could see. 3 or 4 shift that worked fine. Tried it again a nite got major grind lock out. It must be due for a cocktail
I have those mark's on my drive shaft as well, I've found it's a combination of the car being lowered and if you put a third person in the car, or weigh down the back it will rub on bumps.
As long as she doesn't explode on me I'm good! Rubbin is racin!
Luckily I found this out 6 months ago. Got rid of all the issues. 11 GT W/ 16K mi. Very satisfied, thanks Jacob.
How in the hell do you have only 16k on a 11? My 12 has 125k for example, drive that horse shes sad in the stable
I am speechless i bought mine not too long ago and was looking up videos on what usually goes bad and saw this video and noticed i had the 2nd gear issue so i decided to buy the additive and fluid and wow its a night and day difference its well worth the money defenetly recommend
hey man, you said you had 2nd gear issue, i have a similar issue, when shifting from first to second its super clunky, did it fix that for you
@@LukeplaysTV yes it made it easy smoother
100% better. 2013 GT. Shifts like butter! Thanks so much!
Interesting. I lockout 3rd to 4th gear, only at high Rpm. Gonna check this product out!
100% get this fluid it’s so smooth makes it way better
Boom! One of the major reasons I got it right here! He's one of the 2 guys that messaged me about it
Just swapped to the BG fluids as well. It was way easier than I expected! Noticed slight improvement not as much "clunk" when the transmission is cold
I do notice less clunk when she is warmed up for sure, I will be trying this soon..
Just purchased and waiting for delivery. Doing an exedy clutch and an MGW. Even going as far as separate reservoir just for the clutch fluid and a trans mount bushing. Hoping to remedy the mt82 in every possible direction
I have a 14 gt with the amsoil trans fluid and can definitely agree it is very clunky. Looking forward to trying this.
Yeah I hoped it'd be better but this just makes it feel so much better right away and the more i drove it the more it seemed to "work in"
Keep up the videos man, later in 3 years you made me want to do vlogs in my shelby 😍 love the videos, and FIRST
Thank you brotha! Do it! The more the merrier
Jacob R. Doty thank you every night I watch you when I go to bed at night
Thanks Bud! Great video
Just ordered mine from your link and sent him a message how I found out about OPracing. Other than removing the fill plug first do you have any other needed advice? Thanks for the tip, anxious to service the transmission in my recently acquired 12 GT w only 45k miles (one owner).
Just changed my tranny fluid with this BG syncroshift II and the additive. I was having trouble with 5th gear grinding and notchy when shifting. It definitely made a difference. ...thanks for the info
Thanks Mr Doty I'm giving it a shot in my King Kona 2011 GT
Come back and let me know if it makes an improvement for ya!
Hey what kinda of lip do you have on your bumper I really like the way it looks so was trying to get one for my would be really helpful thanks
I might try that stuff out. Mine has the factory fluid in it and the power on shifts are annoying.
About to order this kit. Thanks for the video
Damn. Placed my order and got it in 5 days lol Bout to change out the fluids next weekend
@@BrandonCockridge18Any update..?
@@isnowyazn Shifting feels smoother.
I had issues with going into 3rd gear, whether I was just daily driving or bangin gears. It would take a few tries before going into 3rd gear.
But since switching to BG fluids over a year ago and about 7k miles, I haven’t had any troubles going into any gears.
I haven’t tried any other fluids but this kit is better than the factory fluids for sure.
Also, I used the additives.
2012 5.0 52k miles
Dude, those wheels look absolutely perfect on your car.
Thank you man! I've been looking to switch it up though !
I've never had issues with mine not going into gear. It's always been on stock motorcraft fluid. It's at 100k now. Contemplated to replace the fluid with BG synchroshift II , amsoil, or back to motorcraft. I guess its back to motorcraft for another 100k.
You think it would help with my annoying transmission whine (through my 1st-4th gear) doesn’t whine in reverse or in 5th and 6th gear. 🤷🏽♂️ I don’t know what else to do. Any help would be great
Thanks for the video review. One point I would make is that you are comparing a DCT Fluid (essentially ATF) to a full on Manual Transmission fluid (the Amsoil mix) and they should be different. That mix was "designed" or intended for Hard Racing applications where other fluids would heat up and fade. This BG fluid, Redline DCT and the Amsoil DCT all show a marked improvement over the factory fluid.
2014 V6 manual here. Had the same clunks with 105,000 miles and original fluid. Decided against BG because no major retailers carried it. Put in Motul DCTF because it met Ford specifications. Noticed no real difference for the first 500 miles. Then around 1,000 miles after the change, I noticed that everything was smoother. Didn't fix 100%, but definitely worthwhile.
Why do you drive a high school girls car?
@hambeater8677 you must have got walked by a v6 mustang to express your feelings like that on a comment from 3 years ago.
u are in a v6 so ur comment is irrelevant
How much of the MGC did you ended up using ? Plan on doing my fluid change this weekend
I think the oil is not the culprit as much as needing the BG additive to help with any oil brand. Like rearend oil change and adding limited slip additive. I changed oil in my Toyota PU and it didnt shift right w recommended oil weight. I added Slick50 MT additive and was like stock smooth again.
I’m using Royal Purple Synchromax and mine is smooth as butter!
So I've just purchased a 2014 gt manual with the mt82. Which upgrades should I start with to make that transmission better? And which transmission to people switch to taking the mt82?
Hey man I was wondering what gloves do you use for all the work you do? They seem like they don’t rip or are uncomfortable to wear? Please let me know.
Dammit I wish I knew about this before I spent 1500 on a stage 3 clutch and flywheel. Have you upgraded to a steel braided line or still running the plastic oe one?
Coming from a ford shop, all fords love BG
Gotta get it. I can totally relate on the 3,2,1..
I tried to explain that and hoped someone would get what I was sayin! haha
I have a 2019 mustang gt, with 22,000 miles and I’m going to change the transmission fluid soon. Being that it’s almost August, how does the BG fluid do in 30-50 degree weather?
Does the BG fluid help with transmission whine as well or just smooth out the shifts?
Hey man, thanks for the post. Loving your channel. Quick question, I’m adding the Boss 302 intake and my mechanic is suggesting a .410 rear end. What are you running in yours? Cheers buddy.
373 should be fine
I watched the video on the BG Trans fluid just want to know did it really help wanting to change mine want to know before I do it
Great vid man, about to do my S197. Do you put the entire bottle of additive in or some other amount
I didn't get the additive with my kit so I couldn't add it but second gear still feels kinda scetchy. I the Instructions it says to get the fluid about and 1/8th of an inch if I remember correctly from the fill hole. Not really sure why they say that tho
My car only has 7,000 miles on it but I'm going to try this when I install my mgw and braided clutch line.
I recommend bg products for anything that you need, fuel additives, coolant additives, transmission additives and oil additives
Yeah they seem like a really great company across the board!
yo bro pleaseee cold you answer this, when filling the additive not the trans oil, were you able to use the transfer pump?
I fixed my MT 82, but it cost more than an oil change.
Tremec T 56 magnum XL.
Solved all my problems, but wasn't cheap!
Hahaha yeah that's one way to fix the MT 82 ! Mayyybe one day if I start pushing some real wild power
Yes, I have a VMP gen 2 R.
Makes 767 to the tire.
I enjoy your videos.
I have a 14 horse deep impact blue
That’s the only way to solve the problem.
I have a 2011 mustang and my 5th grinds when I try to shift into it do you think this would help
I just got my 2011 6spd mainly stock besides exhaust, the tranny whines in all gears besides 5-6th but it isn’t grinding in any gears and no pop outs? What would this be just curious?
So when doing my trans and diff fluid I only need one bottle of the additive to use on both ?
Love the videos. Just added a transmission mount bushing and shifter bracket. Now when it’s cold it intensifies what was already bad acting transmission when it’s cold. Just ordered this for my 2016 GT because of this video because it is driving me crazy when it’s cold.
I have this! Haven’t swapped it in yet but everyone says it’s the best!
Yep! That’s why I wanted to give it a shot! I really really like it
My shifter does the same thing if it’s cold, it’s hard to go into gear although I don’t even have six gear what caused that to happen
just put in the fluid, my one to two shift is fixed, so smooth, i donjt think the trans fluid on my 2012 gt had been replaced once in 87k miles
Hey Jacob, did you unplug your skip shift harness on your MT82? Is your transmission still shifting smooth with the BG swap?
Love the content! I am now a fan and follower! 2 years later, how does it feel? Still shifts just as good as you freshly installed?? Let us know! Need to know if I need to do this in my S550 and if its longevity worth! Keep it up man!
Look into the blowfish racing bracket it really helps with the lockout problem. You'll get a little vibration in the high rpm but its not that bad. Doing this oil is on my to do list now. 👍👍
Did you ever do the fluid swap? I just did tonight
so if you got the additive
are you supposed to fill the little cup with the oil as extra fluid and then put in the additive into the oil and pump ? or do you put the additive in the oil and then fill the little cup with the excess oil ???
being in califoria with your high enission laws do you ever have a problem with your 02 sensors not reading ready. if so whats your fix thanks in advance.
Legally, I can't give you advice there. Butttttt I've heard of people knowing people to help that
Any word on how often they restock? I’ve been checking for weeks and still no restock
$300 you can get a portable swamp cooler. I live in Vegas and I can leave the garage open, place the cooler by the open door facing in and be comfortable on a bright and sunny 110 degree day.
I can attest to this. I’ve used this fluid for almost 2 years. My mt82 is still slightly notchy for the first 2 shifts in the morning but it’s a manual trans... not perfect. I didn’t use that additive. This BG fluid is great
I believe it’s solid, but I’m extremely skeptical it tops Amsoil Signature in a 1:1 test. Have any non anecdotal tests to back it up?
Always wanted to see scientific tests…youtubers always go by “feel”
Did you use the whole MGC additive bottle ?
Hey Jacob, love your channel! Am closing a deal next week on a 2012 mustang 5.0L gt coupe premium MT82. Has a Boss 302 engine and intake. Has 86k miles on it. When I test drive it, will definitely see how the clutch and shifting feel. If it is notchy, do you think this trick will help make it smoother? Or should I negotiate replacing the clutch and flywheel into the price? Appreciate your advice or anyone on the forum!
That's a bad deal.
how is the transmission been since changing to this fluid?
For the little bottle of additive….do you use the entire bottle of it and then follow up with the tranny fluid? Or do you use half the bottle of additive?
Maybe you’ve already done this, but have you said how it is now a few months later?
Hey Doty, how is this working out for you 7months later?
I have some brass in my trans fluid😂 but I need to try this
Hey brother Just found out about your channel last night I just bought a 2014 V6 mustang and watching your channel has made me start a big Wish list and mods I want to do to mine like you did yours . Your car is amazing , do you have any first mods advice ? Would really help me get this build started ! Definitely starting off with a set of your stickers tho
why did u buy a v6
I used Red Line MTL in my MT82 and it made a big improvement over the stock fluid. I haven't tried the BG but I do recommend the Red Line.
I haven’t heard of the red line. But hey man if it works for you, it works!
Where did you order that get it..

I've used redline products way back in the '80s and was very impressed. My mt82 shifts just fine stock but I'd use it again based on previous positive experience with it.
I am still under 10,000 miles on my 2017 should I put this stuff in now or wait till 15K or 20K to do it??? Because mine is a little clunky less once warmed up all the way but still a little rough from time to time.. And I was wondering if I should just put this in now for protective reasons???
It’s never too early. If that’s the factory fill, you for sure will want to change the MTF/gear oil. I actually even go as far as recommending changing the MTF with every motor oil change, or at least every other oil change. It will depend on how hard you drive your car, and also how often you do so. Considering the full capacity of the (manual) trans fluid is around ~2.7 qts, buying 3 qts of adequate fluid shouldn’t be too bad, as long as you look for some bundle sales on gear oil/MTF.
I tried everything, but it looks like the gearbox likes a certain viscosity of manual trans fluid, which is somewhat similar to how Tremec uses ATF in their manual gearboxes; however, Getrag’s MT-82 definitely doesn’t take well to ATF…
Anything beyond a GL-4 75w-85 gear oil/manual trans fluid (MTF), is too thick IMO. I guess if you can deal with taking more time to drive and properly warm up the gearbox, it will be fine. I personally find that even 75w-80 is a bit too thick to warm up quickly, esp in the winter; although this is probably the best “in between” weight for a good protection MTF, and isn’t crazy thick (will cause grinding when cold, and lock outs when hot).
Go to Bobistheoilguy, and they have a full list of GL-4 rated MTF’s/gear oils. The OEM Ford DCT fluid is fine, but it’s super expensive. All the other brands are perfectly fine imo, but I chose to stick to Redline Dctf, since it has the thickest visocity of all the other brand DCT fluids, and it is a perfect “in between” gear oil!
I just added this along with the mgc additive and I got to day the transmission is super smooth. I'll let you guys know how it holds up every 5k miles
How’s it holding up?
@@carlosandresh__ it feels back to normal but, maybe I just got used to it?
I'm definitely using it again, because I feel like its good for the transmission. I was told from the previous seller my car already had a stage 2 clutch in it, so maybe I already don't experience as much issues as others do, to notice much improvement?
In order of most effective to least
1. Mgw short throw shifter
2. Stage 2 clutch (twin clutch )
3. BG synchroshift with mgc additive
Great info Jacob! I need to change the fluid in my 16 GT, it's at 36k and is starting to be notchy a bit, so it's probably time. A lot of the local Mustang group members use it too.
Thank you man! Always here to help as best as I can! I suggest it man.
How much additive do you add?
Can MT82 gear box flushing ?
About to buy some. Can’t downshift into first anymore without grind, 2-3 has to be forced in just like your second gear, I’ve had the music on and not pushed it in all the way and it started spazzing. Been doing 1-2-4 getting on the freeway.. It’s overdue for maintenance tho, anyone else had grinding issues that this has fixed? I know I’m probably due for a new clutch too, but been going super easy on it
Would you still recommend?
Which short throw shifter do you have? That's looks very short.
MGW standard throw and standard height. Love it! I have it trans mounted
That’s a good oil bro. I have it in my car
is it good for the s550 with dual clutch manual trans?
because Amsoil has the DCT fluid for manual trans too.
We're did you get it from
By changing the fluid, does it void the warranty if you have a trans issue? Thanks!
Don't believe so. They'd have to prove that it was caused directly by the fluid. This fluid is specifically made to meet the Ford XT-11-QDC Spec

I just hit 12,600 miles and got locked out of 3rd twice in the last month.. I am pissed.. It was always a little cluncky but I never had lock out before.. I have syncro 2 ready to go I gotta get some rear oil so I can put the car on stands and do the gear oil and rear oil too, at the same time....
So after watching this I’m assuming I should drain the royal purple out and go with this. Any response helps.
Get rid of that RP. Amsoil works.
You can start with the $20 additive if you just put it in there. If you've had it a while and are willing to do the whole kit, then give her a shot! It really improved over my amsoil
Thank you
I’ve got a hursts with Barton two post. I hate it..
This is called a placebo effect. You shouldn’t do a review until after a couple months to get an actual review.
My main issue is 1st mostly. It's iffy . Sometimes doesn't go right in. Grind...
Same with me took me a couple months when I first got the car to realize when it went in and didn't
Can't say it will work for everyone, but I always put mine in second before putting it in first. No grind, always slips right in with that method.
