    Good to see some HR info /transparency now and again, all relative of course. Such an elusive bit of info missing from so many other 'all in' channels.

    This encourages me to stop skipping my interval training. Can't believe how high your heart rate can go. Cardiovascular system of a 20 year old. Hope Winifred is still getting better. She seems to really enjoy the ocean:)

    I love seeing your workouts Ben. I have the same issue where I run the first few reps hard despite meaning to coast into the workout and then struggle near the end. I have found that running for time, rather than distance, helps with that. I don't even look at the distance until I get home. So if I figure I can do 1 KM in 4:30, I'll run 4:30 and what I get is what I get. I also don't have access to a track so I use the local bike trail for all my workouts.
    I use your videos and mental strategies when I am doing races and workouts. I know I am more capable than I give myself credit for, so I play that mantra in my head when the going gets tough.
    Enjoyed the video and look forward to Wednesdays and Sundays!

    How often do you do klm repeats guys. Ive got some 10ks coming up and just smashed my 5k pb 19:51 and half marathon pb 1:31:06 over the last two weeks. At 54 years old
    I mainly keep continuous hill repeats in weekly. So maybes if i did these every 2-3 weeks not sure. Another question is would you consider a fast parkrun every 5 weeks the equivalent to these klm repeats.

    Clearly Mary needs to teach Ben about pacing. :P xD Great video as always. I have no idea how you manage all the GoPro shots on those sessions, and still get the workout in. Running with a GoPro is hard! LOL

  • @alan_oz

    I really struggle with pace consistency. I seem not to be able to judge my pace on long runs and the timing can vary by as much as 45 secs per k. I try to monitor my heart rate and breath but still all over the place.

      It depends on elevation as well but it’s certainly a skill worth trying to master. Says the man that went WAY too hard for the first 3 😂

    It's great to see you both really pushing it and feeling the pain ...does that sound weird ? 🤣
    It gives me encouragement to know that's normal (the pain I mean )
    I love that you said it doesn't get easier as you just get faster .
    Thanks for showing us how its done.
    Looking forward to my interval session this week ...not.
    Is it best to mix intervals up from week to week or stick to one type ?

    Really enjoy your videos. Just one comment on the sound: when you play music the volume is do high that I have to turn the volume right down, and the when you talk, I have to turn the volume up again. Could you not record the music at a slightly lower volume? But love the videos, thank you.

    Will do my first 1 km repeats in 2 days and im terrified xD Not quite sure what pace to go for. Am I aiming for going slightly below my current 5k race pace or below the 5k race pace i am aiming for this year? I try to beat my pb from 2021 where i was not specificaly aiming to improve my 5k, but my best 5k time this year is a whoping 2 minutes off.

    Great video as usual! I will certainly be adding some interval training once my self-imposed marathon is complete! Is once a week for interval training an appropriate dosage? Also, do you recommend any "ordering" of interval distances? IE; run 400's for a training block, then (after deload) do 1K repeats.

    Here in the usa our tracks are 400 meters. What is the track length in countries that use kilometers?

    • @ThisMessyHappy
      @ThisMessyHappy  3 роки тому +2

      Well, Km is meters. Miles is yards. So the tracks are all 400m all over the world I believe? I might be wrong though 🤷🏻‍♂️

    Great video - just one question, how to decide how long the recovery period should be between each hard effort?

    • @ThisMessyHappy
      @ThisMessyHappy  3 роки тому

      Thanks Andrew, I would say in the early days that the recovery period should be as long as you need to bring the heart rate right back down and get your breathing under control. Focus on getting the quality in the reps first 😊👍🏻

    Love the videos, have the bell on, but just a bit of constructive criticism.
    The music mix can get a bit hectic at times. I feel like when you are talking, an even lower level or no music would be better. Then have running/action/intro sequences with music. I watch with headphones btw.

    • @ThisMessyHappy
      @ThisMessyHappy  3 роки тому

      Taken on board, thank you 😊 I do get what you mean. Some tracks you download on epidemic sound appear to be ‘louder’ at the normal volume than others for some reason. Always trying to get it right. I appreciate the feedback 😊
