Mercedes-AMG GT 63 S Review - Is this really a Supercar?

- This is the second most powerful production AMG ever, after the SL65 AMG Black Series, a car with a monster twin turbocharged V12. As is the way of things these days, this new AMG develops all its power from a twin turbo V8, the same engine you'll find in the 2-door GT, and even cars like the Aston Martin Vantage.
But Mercedes is a company famous for making sledgehammer saloons, and so they created this, a bit of a Frankenstein 4-door, with the chassis from an E-Class, and the body of the CLS.
Sure, there's plenty here to differentiate it from the E63 AMG, but after spending some time with the monster Merc, our video journalist Ciro De Siena was still unsure if this was a supercar or, as the name suggests, a Gran Tourer.

Great Review. I would like to share my point of view on the vehicle too... The AMG GT line from Mercedes is not meant to be "supercar" hard or fast, it's meant to be a bit softer than that but still sporty, like you said, the 911. So this makes them sports cars, not supercars. As for the AMG GT 4 Door, a harsh ride is never a good thing when it compromises the entire other side of the vehicles character, so that could perhaps be a flaw in the vehicle. I have not yet personally Driven the GT63S, but i hope I get the chance to review one soon, and see if I come to the same conclusion as you guys! Once Again, Great Video as always, and I look forward to More!

Fantastic review, different to all the others covering this same car. Even mentioning the harsh ride, something I haven't heard mentioned about this car before. It seems that every other car reviewer is smitten with the engine and interior and that's about it.

So funny enough, I met a journalist in Camps Bay with the same press car you used, surprisingly basic spec that they ordered for a press car, has the same level of electric seat adjustment as my base level c class coupe. Still a brilliant sounding car!

Thank you for pointing out the depreciation for this car. It's a tad bit crazy.
Not to mention that maintenance for AMG's is notoriously expensive. You should do a head to head comparison between this and a Panamera GT. I'd like to hear your thoughts on that.

You're not wrong, M2 c's that are fitted with a crackle bang tune is life. Range Rovers, G wagons, Mercedes SUV's, BMW X7's are becoming popular and so many Porsches.
The people there will chose a G wagon over this at that price range because there's speed humps on Van Buuren...😂
Alright great one. I look at this car and i say itis serious! Your stories are so amazing i like it. Mistermichel had a mercedes a e55 when it was the firsst one and he said look here this is great i agree. Result is when we race we dont want to press the buttons for exhaust we wish teh exhaust worked all the time remember a citigolf? Yes that is for racing. Bud i say this car is beast for other thinks becasue itis a 4 wheel driver car so in south africa wecan use it to go in the normal road and the dirt such as we can go to magaliesberg or drakensberg or even sandton city where we have things to do. Ithing this car in a yellow colour is note good so the black one is alright bud for R3.2m itis a bargain becasue only need one tender in railawys or eskom to buy it. Thanks for the movie I blessyo.

Fully optioned versions of those are not much cheaper. Also, those cars are boring. This is a "fill the gap" car, so much more exciting. (This last line is meant to be very sarcastic after the comma)

Not true.. Have you checked what comes with the standard M5C, you really don't need extras..and way below the 3mill and still get built quality and performance, way much better than this GT63s
Apples and oranges. M5 is slower and Comp SPEC is an "option pack" branded as a different car. Don't be a sheep falling prey to the marketing wolves. Also, the M5 is no Rolls-Royce either. Either way, neither of us is buying either car so let's not pretend that our views carry weight. Enjoy the vids guys don't get so busy on the keyboard that you sleep on your real hustle.
@@kevinforbes313 it does 1/4 sprint in 11.1s, this is not achieved by 3mil GT63s, all comes at a quarter cost of GT63s..that's astonishing and has better build quality and a complete package. On models it's called laveraging the model, options of basic, Comp, CS, this is the best marketing strategy than flooding the brand, every model , I mean every Merc car is AMG, c200 amg, a180amg, this kills the brand, anyway I am hustling to get m5..

Standard Mercedes these days brother. I got into a 3,5 million rand G wagon the other day. And it felt like a fiat uno with the cheap sounding doors and plastic feel.

I can't buy an AMG C63s over R1million or AMG GLC63s Coupé over R2million and still have to option an AMG performance exhaust system and worst of all you still get those fake exhaust tips and cheap feeling plastics
Some cheaper non-flagship cars have better interior and it's so embarrassing. Some come with standard stuff that is optional in a Mercedes

i agree with everything here. for some time i felt like this is a car i can picture myself having esp it being powerful but with just a few less HP, the E63 S is a better option and has the emotion with it.
I'm 100% behind this channel to hit 1M subscribes... but man come on how are we supposed to watch when you just say from the beginning that you don't like the car 1:07.... maybe you can group things you like and things you don't like.

The M5 comp is already a supercar and this is a bit slower or the same speed, so I automatically make it a supercar. Also a Range Rover sport is 2.4 tonnes at least the full blown SVR.
M5 is slower than this Mercedes. Even AC schnitzer M5 cant beat it on the track. This car makes similar laps like Porsche 911 turbo S 991.2 580 hp and faster laps than AUDI R8 Performance

the weirdest review of this car I’ve every seen - having driven one i've no idea how he can describe
it as a widow maker the 4matic is brilliant. Try any 400 plus bhp rear wheel drive car they're widow makers. can’t see how it differs from the audi or bmw equivalents - v similar rides (quite hard), similar price & depreciation. It would be way more useful instead of slagging it of for bizarre reasons, you measured it against the very obvious competition - so whats better amgt 63s - audi rs7 or bmw m8 saloon or is there another to consider?

2100kg sounds really heavy .... you can thank all the tech features for that! Strip the car down of that crap and you'll shave off at least 500kg! My 2005 S65 weights in on 2200kg despite its V12 in the front! You know why??? No BS tech features telling you when it's time to take a piss!!!

We are in a world where there are the people who are willing to spend that money, so they are there to meet the demand. But I think this type of car could go out of style very soon coz the 1% will probably want to be more low key when the world realises how much they have milked the system and turns on them like zombies. At that time, you would NOT want to be driving one of these.

The criticism is not spot on... Most cars share underpinnings so what is different with this one... Trying too hard to sound knowledgeable. Even the weight many cars in that segment weigh around that mark, Porsche Panamera

Not supercar by character or class, it fits more into family sedans, super sedans or sport sedans..it's like mixer of GT Black and E class..
So you're saying the AMG GT Black Series is not a super car? A family sedan also has more than 4 seats. This car is faster and more powerful than a lot of similarly priced supercars. Maybe you need to be sure to define "supercar character and class" or be a little more specific about your opinion.

I am saying the GT63s has performance of the Black series trapped in the Eclass body..but it's not a supercar though by price and performance it meet the requirements but not the body structure, then it's between family sedan, or sports family sedan...it's like a new class..
