Cuticle removers are high pH, very alkaline and must be used carefully as directed. They dissolve dead skin the same way drain cleaners do, but of course are not the same product! I love your gentle natural nail manicures!
Yes, you are correct, they are very alkaline. They are very useful too and are good when used properly. This is just another way of cuticle removal I would recommend this method before applying gel polish if a nail technician is not trained in e-file. Thank you for your kind words ❤️
This is my method of choice. I have to be extremely careful cause I tend to be heavy handed. Which is why I don’t use my defile as often. Going with the glass cuticle remover is a time saver!!! I get thru my manicure prep in no time. My polish application is better also after this method! 🥰❤️
I do this regularly. I had to learn how much pressure to use because I used to rub too hard and damage the nail, but I've gotten much better with it now. I love a glass cuticle tool like the one you're using in the video, it works really well and is very gentle once you get the knack of how to use it properly.
I was doing this already but stopped and ordered the Blue Cross remover because I was worried I was doing the wrong thing! Glad I can skip the step of using the liquid and continue to work dry. Thank you!
I don’t think there is a 1 right way to do anything. There are many ways and some methods will work better for some and not the others. As long as you are gentle it’s a matter of preference. See what works for you :) If your nails are healthy and not scratched you are doing good :)
I watch your videos and love your content. It has really educated me on my nail journey. I now have bottles of nail oil by every sink. And I was having bad peeling and breaking of my nails from dryness. They were so lovely and over the winter just got trashed. So I’ve been growing them out for months, filing them down and now new healthy nails are starting to emerge since I oil like a mad fiend. I’ve also been oiling my toenails, just because why not?! So thank you for all you do and your fantastic advice. ❤❤
For some reason when I use cuticle remover I find my nail condition degrades so I have decided just to gently push the PNF back, work with a glass tool as you do and with very little pressure remove the dead skin as best as I am able to- I polish with Dazzle Dry and my polish stays for weeks or until I get bored of the color and want to change it out. I dont care that my polish isn't perfect but I dont want to chance damaging my nails now that they have improved so very much thanks to Anna's marvelous advice.Warm oil soaks btwn manicures, kerasal at night, jojoba after hand washing and my nails are happy. With my nails, the less I do the better and at all cost I avoid any nail shops bc unless they are Dazzle Dry certified I'm afraid it's like a 'chop shop' and my nails will suffer.
My three-year-old daughter sheds a lot of cuticle on her toenails. I gently remove her cuticles after a shower every once in a while (I don't push her proximal skin fold). It's basically the same as a cuticle remover, it scrapes right off. I'm starting to oil her toe nails once a day because they're always so dry from her walking barefoot.
I have a similar cuticle pusher as the one that you showed in this video. It works great and also easy to clean. Great video ❤. I do have a question from witch age you van start with taking a manicure. My 12 year old daughter would like to have a manicure with regular nail polish. She is already using nail oil and handcream.
I don’t have this problem with my nails ,but I do with my toe nails 🤷🏻♀️I try my best with my toe nails ,and oil them every day 😅 Enjoyed the video 👍♥️
You mention that after using a liquid cuticle remover, your nail will absorb more water. Does that mean that if you apply oil after using liquid cuticle remover, the nail will absorb more oil? I’ve been trying the warm oil nail soaks you showed us a few weeks ago, and they’re definitely working for my nails. The living skin around my nails are still a work in progress, to say the least.
Anna, another nice video. I do a manicure every week using warm oil, then I push back my PNF once a day when I use oil. Is it possible not to have any dead cuticle? I don't seem to see any when I gently scrape.
Thank you so much Cate! Usually there is some but it can be barely visible or you can have very little. Some people truly have tiny tiny bit. Especially if you nudge back the PNF and take care for the skin around your nails. Then the cuticle might be removed that way without you even really knowing. If you don't have a problem with it, no need to worry about it.
I try to show as much as I can and that’s why I show how I manicure various types of nails of my clients. Mind you; I do what they want so there is only so much I can do :) Please check out the Watch Me Work series
I have the same problem- I have wider nail beds- I've learned that the best shape for them is round. I love square shaped nails but they make broad nails look broader. Inexperienced, cookie cutter nail techs will try to file into the sidewalls to make them appear more narrow and that's not a good thing to do. The trendy shapes like almond, coffin, etc. require pretty long nails when your nail beds are short and wide. I prefer to keep my nails on the shorter side so the trendy shapes don't work for me for many reasons. Round shaped nails look longer and make your fingers looks longer as well plus they are a 'safe' shape, are less prone to breaking and are classic. Also if you polish your nails a nude color that is close to your skin tone will make your nails appear longer. My motto- do what makes you happy!
I'm going through your videos hoping to find what to do with my nails. I've gotten them quite good and healthish. However as the free end grows half a centimetre or more they are breaking. I've been using Sally hensen nail oil. They seem a bit stronger and not breaking as easily. It's so annoying getting them looking good naturally then one breaks. How can I improve this? I have poor health and vitamin deficiencies and I can see this in my nails. I've also started getting white curves under my nail at the cuticle? Any help would be appreciated x

Hello there :). What’s probably and most likely overgrown and stuck to the nail is the living skin, not cuticle and there is a difference. Have you watched the video that I included at the end of this video?

Hi I have watched it and it is live skin this is why I didn't remove it,, I would just like to know how to deal with it. I did try to push it back but it is really stuck on the nail and comes about half way down the nail, I have asked her to send a picture over but she hasn't gotten back to me yet xx
The client need to learn how to maintain her nails. I would recommend urea cream like I explained in the video I provided and she needs to use it every night. Then gentle nudge with a orange wood stick every couple days. Over time with gentle care this will improve. I’m sure it wasn’t half way down the nail but sometimes the skin is stretched 1-2 mm because it’s stuck to the nail and as the nail grows it pulls the skin with it.
I prefer to avoid chemicals on my nails when possible, so it's lovely to see you removing cuticles gently, while dry. Thank you! 💕

I have used the tool for the first time and it's a game changer! I will never use cuticle remover again! Thanks Anna!

This was very helpful. Thank you, Anna.
I love this method. I've been doing it for years with my glass nail files.
That's great!

I don’t usually polish my toe nails ,but get a pedi in the summer months 😊
Huge lightbulb moment just now…if I’m not wearing polish I don’t need to worry about removing my cuticle. Aha! Thank you!
Hi Tracy! I’m happy you found this video valuable:) ☺️

Very informative! Thank u. Is it ok to soak nails for a couple minutes in a manicure bowl to soften cuticle? Or do u only recommend cuticle remover?
Can u also pls make a video on how to shape broad nails so they look a bit elongated.

This can be difficult for me to do this for myself without scratching my nails.
It can be. But it’s good to know that is can also be done this way especially for nail techs that don’t use e-file but they do gel polish manicures.
Hey Anna, I can’t find the info about the Glas tool 😮

What about soaking nails in apple cider vinegar and water? I've seen a lot of videos about the benefits.
Sounds like pseudoscience. I don’t believe these claims.
Hi
I have a client with really thick over grown cuticles they are not dry and are stuck to the nail. I am scared of cutting them what can I do ? Xxx
