  • Session 1 o f 3 at Victory Karting in Charlotte, NC July 19, 2024. This outing presented a new track configuration that was about 2 weeks old. I was able to tag along with Ft Jackson MWR. Session 1 was a qualifier session for the Main MWR race with a best lap of 39.1? maybe. Session 2 I started on pole for the race, though my results didn't really count for the race positions, since Chris, Alec and I were just running for fun. But I was able to improve my lap time to a 38.1. My 3rd session I hopped in with the public and whittled my time down to a 38.0 lap time.

When in doubt, use your foot to push away from the wall. I couldn't tell if they other drivers were keeping you from passing on purpose or if they had no idea what to do. It seems some were really competitive and others were out for a Sunday drive. Either way, good driving.

I don't think anyone with the group had any racing/karting experience except for Chris, one of the MWR group leaders, since he has been bringing groups karting a few times a year for the last few years. The part about blocking that gets me is that if someone is holding a sign at you that says MOVE OVER (especially more than once) and you don't do it, then you are wilfully disregarding the directions of the staff. At that point it doesn't matter if you are blocking on purpose or not, the black flag might be necessary. I do have a little sympathy for the confused guy in the Main race because that race session was for position (not just lap time), but I was lapping him. It's common for lapped traffic to be given the blue flag (move over) in most forms of racing, but that was not really explained to our group that day to my knowledge.
