  • Howdy, in this episode we'll be soldering on the connectors to the GPS unit so that we can connect your NEO-M8N GPS bought here goo.gl/7Z3gh1 to your Omnibus F4 V2 flight control board goo.gl/bYpmjJ. The wiring colour codes are below in video description, Press SHOW MORE to see the FULL details, Matt
    IMPORTANT
    =========================
    Double and triple check your wiring and if needs be do what I did and wrote the connections down on a piece of paper.
    The colours of the wires from the GPS unit are the ones you pay attention to, NOT the colours on the wires from the JST SH connector.
    You match the GPS wires to the ordering on the connector on the board. You can see the image I used in this episode here on Banggood goo.gl/ONfVAY
    Wire Colour Coding
    =========================
    Below is the colour coding of the wires on the NEO-M8N GPS unit I bought here goo.gl/7Z3gh1 and this goo.gl/X42CZ8 is the right search on eBay for the 6 pin JST SH 1mm connector.
    RED - This is the +5V wire
    BLACK - This is the GND wire
    WHITE - This is the Rx wire which is connected to Tx on the FC
    YELLOW - This is the Tx wire which is connected to Rx on the FC
    GREEN - This is the SCL wire (for the compass)
    BLUE - This is the SDA wire (for the compass)
    Using a Different GPS Unit?
    ================
    If you are using a different GPS unit than this one goo.gl/7Z3gh1, then it's likely that the colour coding is going to be different.
    So go very, VERY careful and consult your manual or the manufacturer to confirm the correct wiring.

    Matt - thanks so much for this guide (and your other fantastic guides, too). Your patience in taking us through the weird colour-coding transformed this mind-boggling wiring-up task into a much more straightforward one. Thanks to you, I'm now 80% of the way towards having my little Peng***n ready for inav-guided flight. This will be a major milestone for me because I'm a clumsy old git and need all the help I can get. THANK YOU. Simon

    I wired the GPS, connected.Flashed INAV enabled GPS/compass. GPS turned blue, but compass RED. Did little bit of research and ran command set i2c_speed = 100KHZ and that had turned it blue.

    Just one comment on color coding. It is really simple (1-2 minutes job!) to swap wires and get correct colors in right order.

      that's the way i do it all the time. red is ALWAYS vcc and black is GND. so you minimise any chance of issues.

    Matt...The wire colors you provide are not consistent with the GPS you indicate should be purchased from Bang Good. My GPS fails to work...primarily I am unable to follow your video since the wire colors are not identical. Please advise. I am using a Omnibus V2. I cant go any further unless this wiring problem is resolved. Thanks.

  • @gittarpikk
    @gittarpikk 5 років тому

    Could the 'whatever' color wires from the white plug be simply removed (depressing a clip with a pin, etc) and all swapped to correct input position for plug.....just a nuance to make everything sort of 'look' right.....I've done that before on other plugs...but the little catch/clips sometimes bend too much and lets the wires come out of plug easily.....which may have answered why you din;t mention that.

  • @shawnzfpv
    @shawnzfpv 7 років тому

    For the connector it might help to un-pin it and plug it back into the connector so that the wire colors match the GPS wire colors. Then there will be no confusion!

    • @RagTheNutsOff
      @RagTheNutsOff  7 років тому +2

      Howdy Shawn, yea that did cross my mind, however when you see how small these connectors are in real life, you think "screw that" and use the wiring diagram instead :) Matt

    wire colors are still wrong with some NEO-M8N's. Mine is wired Green TX, Yellow RX, Blue SCL, White SDA. Best to open the M8N and see how it's wired THEN proceed with the video using the color scheme in YOUR M8N

      Howdy Vincent, if you have it enabled and it's working, it'll help, but only really necessary for quadcopters as they have unlimited yaw abilities and a compass would come in very helpful for those. If it's not broken, then don't fix it :) Matt

    Hi mate! The GPS unit you suggest in the link seems to have a power supply voltage 1.65 V to 3.6 V. Now from the diagram you show in your video the GPS port have an output of 5 V. Isn't gonna fry the GPS?? Apparently not, since yours is working perfectly, but how can you explain the difference in voltage? Thanks for the great work you do!

    Hi Matt, I have a couple of (simple?) questions for you...
    - Is the connector in the GPS rcvr the size needed for the FC board? I assume not, or you could have used it instead of soldering up another one.
    - The GPS unit says that it has a max input voltage of 3.6V, but you are connecting it to 5V. Won't that hurt the GPS?
    Thanks!

    Any way to get both GPS and RSSI to work on a Omnibus F4? I have Omnibus F4 with X4rSB receiver. It works great as a racing quad in Betaflight. RSSI is going into CH6. I want to convert it to a GPS quad with iNav but the RSSI is going to CH6 and that is where the GPS input would go. SCL and SCA are combined with RX3/TX3 so I can't use that for RSSI. TX1/RX1 is the same as SBUS, right? so can't be used.

    • @RagTheNutsOff

      Howdy fella, yea I use RSSI and GPS on all mine where we have RSSI out from the receiver. As for the X4RSB receiver, no idea never used it. Also the RSSI doesn't got to a TX/RX input, it's on a dedicated pad or pin, see the later video on this, Matt

    Sir Good Morning I have the Ominibus F4 V3 in which I am connecting my transmitter Flysky i6 to ppm, please tell me how will the GPS wiring on this flight controller board when we do the ppm, you can connect to Sbus But how will the GPS be wired? • @RagTheNutsOff
      @RagTheNutsOff  6 років тому

      Howdy fella, see the other video on the V3 board, you may have a tab you need to solder to tell the board to use PPM rather than SBUS,. If that is already working, then follow the steps for the GPS as they should be the same if using SBUS or PPM. If you get stuck, see the iNav FaceBook group or the wiki, Matt
