Met Lackey at a supercross race. Asked a mutual friend to introduce me to him . Seems like a great guy. I told him I was a big fan and would like his autograph. I still have it . It's on a brochure for a mx clinic. We spoke for a half hour and compared racing injuries. Thanks Brad for the moment in time.

My dad bought me an '82 RM80. To me, it's that magical, nostalgic bike to which you can trace the origins of your passion. Fast forward all of these years and I just bought a Suzuki DR650... largely because of the RM80 seed that was planted when I was a kid.

Thanks for letting me hear the first motorcycle I owned. Racing got in my blood from it and I still race at 50. If anyone has not tried to ride a Kenda full gas sprint please try it. I'm a motocross racer for almost 40 years and it's a great change of pace. If your a motocross guy you will put the hurt on the enduro guys on the grass track.

Thanks for posting these incredible videos..Brings back great memories from my teens. I had a Hodaka 100 Dirt Squirt, 78 RM 125 and a Bultaco 250. RM and CR's were my favorite. Hope to come visit your museum some day in the future..I love the fact that you not only show the amazing bikes..But you ride them! Love it...🙂 I live in NY in upstate region would love to go to a dirtbike rental place and rent a bike for the day and do some offroad riding. It has been too long I ride a street bike these days but its not the same lol

Next bike I got was an 86 rm80 at 12 cause it was quite a bit taller in 86 but soon outgrew and onto a 87 kdx200, My dad had an 84 yz490 what a beast

This was the first and best bike i learned and raced on, i kept it mint i was 14, 15, i am 52 now lol, i begged my dad for one, out of the blue he said go get my tools from the van, when i opened the door my mouth dropped . They were all looking out the window to see my reaction laughing even got me a suzuki vintage long sleeve shirt with my name on the back it dont get better then that. He tapped the forks and made air shocks, it was a rocket. The day he took me to the pits how to switch gears with the clutch , took a few hours then i got it , well they had a big mound of dirt with a path going over the top so cars could not go any further, so everyone parked on the side. So my pop got on it he was cranking it was a long road , figured he was trying it out, so hes coming with some speed hes not slowing down my friends are there, they go chris what the hell, your pop is not slowing down whats he doing no no, he hit that mound of dirt (remember hes 220) he shot straight in the air about 40 feet hit the ground, all i se is my new tank hit the pavement and sparks coming out. I ran up to the bike to see the damage how bad it was , my pop goes i am ok dont worry lol. What the hell was that , he said i had some good speed felt like going for it, it goes straight up in the air. That dam dent stayed there for the 4 years i had it . Best present gift i ever received would not change it for the world, i was lucky to have a dad that didnt sit in the bar all day like a lot of dads . We still talk about it today , **thanks to all the dads who worked and made time and took us racing. **

I raced RM-80'S till 78 then switched to a 79 yz-100 and got me a 5th place that summer at Ponca City in the 100cc Stock intermediate class,i think Danny Storebeck and Carrol Richardson swapped moto wins in the mod an stock 100 class that year. But i can still remember watching George Holland(R&D) Suzuki and Erik Kehoe(Factory Yamaha)Battle it out on those Bikes,it was amazing to watch what those bikes could do in the hands of a fast Kid.Sure do miss those days going racing with my pops.

Back in 1980 a buddy had an RM80, those things had a power band that hit real hard up top but no low end grunt. I've still got a ported and polished 1980 YZ80 sitting in a farm shed - unridden for at least 35 years. Time to dust it off!

I had one back in 1980. The frame mounts up front cracked and were wielded so many times from jumping, the alignment with the front and rear sprockets was out so I went through front sprockets like crazy. Ended up selling it for $500 and the next year bought a Kx-80 and started racing.

The 81 RM80 came with both the Red and Purple power bands. The Red one had twice the bottom end than the stocker, and if you had one of Dave Millers pipes, it would crush the 81 RM465 in a drag race. The Purple power band was not for the timid; that one came from R&D Suzuki and if you used the Roo Link frame? Forget it.
