OMG - it is so cool to see this '78 race. But I have to admit, having driven the road course a dozen times.....I'm spending more time looking at the "road course" that was there way back then...no idea so much of it was there back then. You can see turns 1-3, then up to 4 as well as 8,9 and the crossover (toward what will be 10). So freak'in sad to think this historic chapter of racing history may be coming to a close....
Was there with My father at Start /Finish. Always loved this track because you could follow the cars all the way around.Danny Ongais was Smokin that day
Fantastic posting!!! :) After watching this, I might have some insight on the engine controversy. The Cosworth DFX engines were in short supply, due to Cosworth not yet having the capacity yet to supply an entire field of cars. By 1980, they were. Even Foyt who had his own 1960s designed Ford derrived engines Finally switched to Cosworth. It all came down to the Electronic Fuel injection. Cosworth had it, Drake and Foyt/Ford had crude Fuel Injection from the past.
what an amazing racetrack, used to go here in the early in mid 80s with family to watch them race motorcycles. It already had that abandoned feel then! It was so cool to be able to explore the media booths, the tunnel under the track, everything! nobody cared. This track was destroyed by the horrible Nascar family basically. Blame that family for this.
The only race for the 2003 season I have on dvd is the Brands Hatch race. I'll put that on when I get a chance. I'll have to put the rest on dvd from tape when I get a chance.
In a few years, the Cosworth fixed programmed fuel injection would be upstaged by Ilmor's programmed fuel injection which could adapt better to changing circumstances.
its funny, we used to obsess about pausing while recording to skip the commericials. now I would LOVE to see the old adverts here.

This is the '78 Texas USAC race. I don't believe CART ever raced there.
