I have been watching your tutorials since 2021. And I find that your channel is getting better and better! I like these little hardware that makes our retro life better.
Great video! Do you think you can make a tutorial on how to transfer the GB Pokemon Save Data into the 3DS XL VC versions? I think that'd be pretty informative
I'm having trouble playing my save files on my pc, i made a backup of my gba games on pc and it can play without trouble, but it starts a new file even with the backup save file in the same place.
Just to confirm... You can save the save file from the OG cart onto the PC, replace the cart battery, then put the original save back onto the original cart?
It was between that and the GBxCart for me, although I went with the latter due to the FOSS nature of it. However the GB Operator does look lovely and has a nice looking application!
Are you familiar with WWF No Mercy? It'd be great for someone to figured out how to back up that save file because that game has a big that deleted all data randomly after powering off
@@MrMario2011 it's one of the greatest wrestling games ever created and is loved by millions but people can't stand that bug The fixed version goes for $400 now
I want to get into saving my old games. But is it really okay to touch the cart's board with bare hands? Shouldn't you better wear anti-static gloves? Serious question.
does anyone know if the battery on gameboy pokemon games needs to be working in order to backup the save file? i found my childhood copy of pokemon blue/gold and i was able to backup blue and run it in mGBA just fine, but when i backup the save from gold and run it in mGBA it just launches as a fresh save and doesn't show the "continue" option when starting the game, and yes i load an alternate save manually to make sure i'm selecting the exact .sav that i backed up. GBxCart detects the clock system when i attempt to backup pokemon gold as well. i've tried keeping the clock data for the .sav file and not keeping it, but neither work. i don't know if either battery is drained as i no longer have a gameboy. that's kind of why i bought the GBxCart, so i could access my childhood saves and play them on an emulator on my PC.
Pokemon games will only retain their save if the battery is working. The easiest way to test if your cartridge retained the save is to just play it normally on a console and see if you can load your save.
I just got in my new GBxCart, the PCB is labeled v1.4b Pro and I flashed it correctly when I first plugged it in. I have a Pokemon Red cart (white E version) from childhood and for some reason when I use FlashGBX to dump the ROM, it saves it locally in .sgb format. Is there a reason it's doing this rather than .gb? The title it autogenerates for the ROM is "Pokemon - Red Version (USA, Europe) (SGB Enhanced).sgb" I am not familiar with the ROM community at all, and this is my first time backing up .sav's as well. Is this standard for Red or it's indicative of a fake cart? Unfortunately, I don't have a 3.8mm screwdriver to open it up and check the PCB.
Sounds fine to me, the reason why it does that is because that game has some extra code in it that the Super Game Boy for SNES will make use of. Nothing to worry about 😊
Hi, one q here! My carts are all battery drained. Can this still back up them before battery swap? I heard that battery swap erases previous saves. I hope this could be a solution to my current situation 😢

Truly appreciate that, it means a lot 🖤
Great little device - essential for cart battery swaps
And for flashing bootleg carts with your own custom Pokémon ROM hacks and homebrew.
Love tools like this with fair price
Same! Works wonderfully without breaking the bank.
I've got the v1.2b version of this, it is a great little tool. It is awesome for battery swaps.
A fantastic use for it.

So is this how one would go about copying pokemon games onto their computer for playing with an emulator?
Yeah
Very well made tutorial.
Thank you! Cheers!

The emulator you're using isn't correctly reading the save file.

Exactly!
I use the GB Operator so simple to use and looks really nice on the desk 👍🏻

Have an INLRetro, figured I'd download the GBxCart software just in case it was compatible. Unfortunately for me, it's not
I still love the Gameboy Monster Brain. I have Donkey Kong finished on it plus Zelda Link's Awakening DX almost done. No GBA compatibility though. 😕💔
RIP

@@MrMario2011 got it-okay yep, did not know about how there’s a specific list of GB games that were formatted for SNES. I appreciate it!

You would back up the save first, then do the battery swap, then restore the save.
@@MrMario2011 thank you so much!!!
Can you save emerald save data from a repro & put onto a legit version of emerald?
Sometimes those repros might have a different save structure. Best way to try is to try!
Cool except spending 50bucks is definitely too much. Wanted to dump a weird bootleg Pokemon but oh well
Helped me rip my original copy of Emerald. Thanks so much!
You're welcome!
So whats the best place to get a usb type c?, can someone recommend one to me, thank you.
If you mean the device itself? I got mine from a seller on eBay.
