Glad to see this review. Gearlab Outdoors makes some quality stuff. I know their Greenland paddles have a great following. If I ever stop being poor I hope to pick one up lol.
I have the NRS Taj M'Haul deck bag. I didn't buy it, it was included with a used kayak I bought (as well as a ton of other gear, it was quite the score 😁). It also isn't waterproof, but it comes with a drybag inside of it that seals with both a roll top and a zip-loc type closure. The drybag has a velcro patch on the outside at the bottom that mates up to one on the inside of the deckbag to keep the drybag inside of the it, which I thought was well thought out. The one annoyance of the NRS bag is the flimsy plastic insert that is supposed to help keep the deckbag's shape and keep it from collapsing. It doesn't work, especially when I have my bilge pump and other stuff on it. The plastic is too flimsy and flexible and just makes it sit at an odd angle. This isn't from heat in the sun either, this happened on a 50 degree day. Yes, I have the insert installed correctly. It secures to the deck bungees via some strong velcro strips that run the length of the bag, which are sewn to the bag at one end. Run the straps with the loop velcro under the bungees, then press the bag down over the bungees (the hook velcro is attached to the underside of the bag), and the bungees end up sandwiched between the velcro. I explained this poorly, but I'm sure there's a video somewhere that can explain it better. There are plastic clips at each corner to secure it to the deck lines. Due to the width of my kayak (WS Tsunami 165), I added some cheap key ring carabiners to the plastic clips to extend the reach and make it easy to attach and remove.
Overall, I do like the bag, for when I want to use a deck bag. My day hatch is behind me, so that's usually where I keep my water, snacks, and anything small that I want to keep handy. I'm going to experiment with a kydex sheet to see if I can make a new insert to help keep its shape better.

Yeah, as I said in the video, I don’t generally like deck bags, but this one had some nice features. I just used another one with NOLS and MUCH preferred this one over the one NOLS gives to instructors.

I've been using this and I admit it's not needed but I do like having my 3.5 water bladder so easily accessible. I do like that little velcro pocket and I store an old back up pair of glasses in there just in case. On long trips I'd rate it useful.

Yeah, i don’t use it on day trips. But on multi day trips I like it. I found myself missing it when I was in Alaska recently, I used what NOLS has for instructors and it wasn’t very good.

Looks ok, too bad it's not waterproof and you still have to use a dry bag in it. I have no experience kayaking or with deck bags, but found it informative just the same.

I am honestly not sure which version of the bag this is, this was shot in the beginning of April. I am not sure if they have changed models since then.
