Australian Aboriginal Mythology - The Dreaming (ASMR Stories for Sleep)
Вставка
- Опубліковано 10 чер 2024
- In this soft spoken talk, I tell you stories from a body of myths and legends shared by different Australian Aboriginal People: the Dreaming, or Dreamtime. Australian Aboriginals are thought to have some of the oldest continuous cultures in the world, since they remained undisturbed in Australia for tens of thousands of years. Their cultures radiated and diverged across the island, with different language groups and mythologies. We explore myths that are widespread among them, like the Rainbow Serpent, and others that are local, tied to local geography or a particular people.

Wonderful video!
I'm sure you're unaware of this - but it would be excellent if you could add a warning at the start that the video includes images of deceased people. It's a standard practice in Australia, and was introduced by request from indigenous communities. The text is usually the following:
WARNING: Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander viewers are warned that the following program may contain images and voices of deceased persons.

Halo
I'm a non-Aboriginal Australian and think this is fantastic. The Australian Aboriginal cultures are rich and truly ancient.
No better feeling than getting into bed and realizing there is a new French Whisper video to fall asleep to. Thank you.
😂I thought I was the only one who thought that!😂
This makes my heart so happy. A good chunk of my family live between Adelaide and Alice Springs, they foster and have adopted 3 aboriginal babies. Thank you for bringing this into the light. Thank you, thank you, thank you 💓💓💓I do believe this is my most favorite video of yours.
I would love to share Brazilian mythology and folklore with you for a video. It’s really interesting and barely talked about. Really appreciate your videos, they’re very informational and respectful. It’s interesting to see that there’s also a parallel between the concept of “the dreaming” for the aboriginal peoples and what indigenous Brazilian peoples call “encantaria” (the enchanted, enchanted place). The beings and entities from this realm are the enchanted (encantados) or caruanas.
south American and more specific Brazilian mythology, folklore etc would be very interesting, its so beautiful. Not mention the best women in the world, besides Spanish, and Columbian.... And such a rich culture and history.

As an Aboriginal Australian, y e s
i absolutely loved this topic. ive been listening to this video to fall asleep every day since it came out.
I live in Australia and I adore their culture. I’ve learnt about dream time many times but every time it’s so cool. The best one I ever saw was an exhibition at sovereign hill park. It tells many stories such as the mines they have there the gold rush and ofc the story of dream time which all the shows are stunning
*dreaming :)
@@amour3849 its formally called dream time
@@optimistic_panda8088 Hi, as an Aboriginal Person, i can tell you it is the "dreaming", as it is still continuing, whereas "Dreamtime" means it is over, and it is not, Thank you!
Thanks for sharing the interesting aboriginal beliefs. I’ve seen from studying different religions from around the world several themes that are constant. There is a serpent, two siblings who have a rivalry are the two most common ones.
And a flood.
What a treat! I absolutely adore the anthropologically themed stories, anything history or mythology are my favourites
you’re the king of bedtime stories FW 👑
Adding this back to my watchlist this week as part of Reconciliation week. Could be worth re-promoting this story to share again

You continue to gift us with incredibly researched and beautifully delivered sleep stories - I truly can't thank you enough for all you do. ❤
You are sooooo nice.
hi friend, i bought an hourglass the other day and fell down the rabbit hole of their history. not tons of info, but definitely something interesting that could be added to a larger video. history of other items such as clocks, watches, calendars, “History of Time-Keeping” ? i would love to know why and how some countries like Iran are on completely different years. just an idea for the future! 😊
Good idea!
I’d love to hear an in-depth piece on these subjects
I love that he did it!!! 😁 Such a great suggestion

I always find your work so fascinating I forget I'm trying to sleep.❤
This was so philosophical very thought provoking took a few listens I relaxed too much and fell asleep
I'm so glad I found your videos. When I want to relax, but not necessarily fall asleep, I've found so many interesting topics and stories presented so beautifully. Thank you.
Just finished the gilgamesh episode on slumber and realised i wasnt asleep and needed more, and here you are with this! Thank you so much! 🎉🎉🎉
O my goodness. Another delight. Ancient cultures and creation myths are always perfect to sooth a restless mind.
Thank you in advance 🙏
Thankyou ❤❤❤❤
I’m really enjoying this
This is a great video as always. I have to thank you for choosing this topic, and placing it on the same pedestal as all the other mythologies like it deserves. So often it is relegated to mere anthropology to be studied, rather than treated as the rich and meaningful culture it truly is.
Please do a video on daffodils/narcissicus, from greek mythology to botany
I’d love to hear you talk about brazilian mythology! ❤😴
Perfect timing as always ❤
Fantastic! Looking forward to it.
Cant wait to arrive home and go sleep listening another masterpiece!
Had good dreams after falling asleep to this
Thank you for all that you do. Your stories teach so much. Your voice relaxes me so much. I sleep so well with your stories playing. The fireplace in your library is the best!
Yesss! Mythologie is my favourite theme! 💪🏻😊😪
Your channel is amazing.

HOLY GRAIL next video!!!. Might as well complete the Trifecta.....Indiana Jones-style. ❤
Ce serait super que les Francophones, dont je fais partie, puissent en profiter aussi ! Ça nous manque !

Thanks for the video
You put some much work and research into these.❤
I love the little themed set ups he has for each new video.

Love Aussie history and didgeridoo sounds, aborigines culture❤
Hi there! "aborigines" is considered a slur by Aboriginal people; we prefer First Nations or Aboriginal in capitals, thankyou !
Oh, I am very excited for bed tonight!

Helloooo🎉
Is the dreaming the same as the dreaming place in the Sandman Netflix series?
What my family believes is.
The dreaming existed before time and land, it is home to our spirits. Stories like the seven sisters happened in the Dreamtime.
When an animal is born it is given a spirit from the Dreamtime, the animal passes and journeys back to the dreaming.
Humans are a form given to the previous spirits to protect the land and creatures before it passes back to the dreaming. (This is where our totems come from)
As humans to be allowed to pass back to the Dreamtime, we must care for the land, its creatures, give knowledge to others and enjoy our lives. We are forbidden to harm or eat our totems as it is equivalent to cannibalism.
When we journey back to the dreaming, we become ancestors who live happy but sometimes they visit the next humans back on the land.
The dreaming is our story of the afterlife and was used to soften the blow of death, makes it feel like a gift if you follow the rules of being a morale human.
Human morales are told by other stories for example:
The murrbay tree is about greed and the boab tree is about pride
