- Bardstown, Ky was named "Most Beautiful Small Town in America" in the Rand McNally/USA Today 2012 Best of the Road competition. Kentucky Life talks to Kim Huston, author of Small Town Sexy, about the iconic streets, shops, cafes, and historic neighborhoods in the "Bourbon Capital of the World."
A total of 650 towns were nominated, and Bardstown pulled out all the stops for the offical judges' visit, with people lining the streets for a parade. The Rand McNally team of Nikki and Dusty Green spent a few days seeing the sights and getting to know the people. When the online voting was done, this Nelson County town - home to Barton 1792, Heaven Hill, Jim Beam, and the Ky Bourbon Festival - was the winner.
(Note: Danville was among the towns vying for Most Beautiful, making the final six; and Murray was named Friendliest.)

This is one of the most peaceful areas that I have ever visited. I loved My Old Kentucky Home!
This town maintains its old structures just like an old town. The view of the structures, roads, sidewalks, boulevards, etc. look very nice & beautiful indeed.
I agree. I love visiting Bardstown. It's not only a beautiful and very historic town, the people there are just so nice.
I can't believe they didn't mention the dinner train in Bardstown. That is the best part of Bardstown and its one of the top dinner trains in the world.
In 1954 I started 1st grade at My Old Kentucky Home school, over Christmas break in 1957 we moved to Lake City Fla.. We had lots of family living around Bardstown, if your namesake rhymes with "Grape juice" we are probably related, love to hear from you! My Dad was born in Beam Kentucky but grew up on farm, which is now part of Bergheim National Forest. Lots of great memories of living around Bardstown!
Lol, what name rhymes with Grape juice, I'm so curious
I used to travel to Bardstown on business, it was beautiful and friendly people. I want to visit again.
I was born I Bardstown raised in Florida . I miss the small town feel . I lived right on Main Street .
Same
I attended high school at Nazareth Academy on its gorgeous campus just outside Bardstown. Full of history and not to mention wonderful “secret” dining options. It’s been over 50 years now. We’ve lived all over the USA and nothing else has quite the atmosphere. Used to wake early in the morning to the smell of corn mash!
That wonderful City Bardstown in Kentucky. I was strolling in July and August 2015, the streets and shops of this city with my wife and my son who lives in Louisville. We were delighted.
Moving here in 2020❤

I've been to Bardstown and I loved it. My wife and I enjoyed a great lunch at old Talbott tavern before we went to tour 'my old Kentucky home. '
Talbotts is amazing! Haunted too!
I want to live here someday. It looks peaceful. Quiet. Clean. Simple. :'(
DarthDregan lol it ain't trust me
i already live here butttttttt its kind of getting louder than usual i dont know why
DarthDregan I live very close and it is absolutely awesome in Bardstown you should vacation to Louisville and drive over there
+Pearl_poppy mc There's too many people, i live in New Haven and i hate going to bardstown i lived there as a kid and it was great but it's not as peaceful anymore.. I myself prefer to be way out in the country, cant wait to get out of New Haven either.
@@haley7267 That's easy.. because its become a major tourist area. so MORE and MORE people visit. There are many other small towns in Kentucky though. I have been to so many.
I've visited Bardstown twice and loved it !
I lived there and loved it .
I live in Kentucky and Bardstown is my favorite town in the state.
Nice. Just love small towns
Very nice peaceful and clean town. I love such places.
Bardstown has a dinner train. You MUST ride the dinner train and enjoy the scenery along the rails while you eat. Everything about the Bardstown dinner train is first class. How could they not include it in this video?!!!
If ya like spending lots of money sure.
I mean dont get me wrong if tourists want to then sure but as someone from bardstown i kniw its pricey lol
@@dreamercreations2499Of course it is going to cost more than McDonalds. They have to operate a TRAIN.
Wow, petty town. All i knew about Kentucky was from a Daniel Boone documentary, now i wish i lived there, its peaceful. Probably no riots, protestors, no one knocking down statues, etc. Lucky you, Kentuckians, appreciate your state, its pretty

I miss living in Bardstown its grown so much. If your visiting don't leave with out going to stephen fosters restaurant it's good home cooking easily the best restaurant in town but gets overlooked because of its location.
Actually looking at moving to Bardstown in the next year❤
How was the move? Are ya still there?
Im originally from bardstown
this looks amazing... I live in West Long Beach CA right next door to Compton CA... this is the polar opposite.. it looks so peaceful.. amazing...
Right I'm I. Pomona CA. And I am ready to leave California. So tired of this state. Maybe because I have been here for 28 years.
Such a beautiful and wonderful place 💖👍
I grew up there and i live there to this day.
Looks like a nice plac to visit for about 4 days.
This town reminds me of Grapevine, Texas!🙂❤
We ate at Hurst Drug Store and walked to the stores. Visited the great old church and distillery's too.
I usually get ice cream or a milkshake. I'm from NJ and I have family in Bardstown.
This looks like a lot of small towns that I have seen in the south.
Bardstown - very diverse place full of different cultures. 👌
Very nice...Im in California and I visited the Nashville T N area last year...I've noticed that K Y and T N are ugly in the winter, but really beautiful in the summer...Like two different planets...
Not at all ugly in the winter. I'm a Louisville born and raised, and transplanted to Bardstown about seven years ago! Literally nothing ugly about anything here, during any time. 🙄
We get a ton of tourists. There are tunnels beneath the town used by Jesse James too that this video won’t mention.
I want to come visit not to mention your famous distilleries!
Love it
Paris Ky is my favorite downtown in Ky
something about small towns in the USA is enchanting 😊 only deterrent, and it's a BIG one, the religious fanatics. Apart from that, looks like a pretty cool place to live😊
Dain Heenan There is no fanaticism here. While we are a predominantly Catholic area, it is not shoved in peoples faces.
Dain Heenan So you’re Islamophobic? Good to know.
@Nathan Explosion Can you imagine a hijab wearing woman walking down that street, it would make me vomit.
do u still live there @@maryannmarino865
i live in bardstown
same
Since you live in Bardstown, Have you rode the dinner train? You can't live there without riding the dinner train at least once.
Casey Wallace Where's your house? I mean Whereabouts?
It’s it safe?
Me too
I live in kentucky. in blue grass bath con
skyp: mnc_ist
yep that's my home

Were the first settlers poets, artists and such (bards) in that town?
Very CooL...:D & Amazing
I have visited there in 2013. I miss the beautiful city.
I am a South Korean.
Where are those stairs at 1:23?
Beautiful town , i met a pretty young lady from there back in 1984 , her name was Tanya Perkins i think i spelled that right
Where in Kentucky are you located
I live there I’m there right now in fact
Loved to stop and get root beer floats at the drug store/restaurant.
This place is suitable for veterans
How many unsolved murders y'all got now?
Two. Where you from?
Do. They. Still have. Dinner. Train
Yes
@@CountessKitten are you from the town?
@@BobbieLovesSoles well, I'm from Louisville, but currently live in Bardstown,KY, so yes!
@@CountessKitten And why do you go by "deadgirl16"
@@CountessKitten ?
Over at city hall we have cribbage game and boiled chicken dinner every Tuesday night. Some idiot dummped his whole chicken dinner down the toilet. Then tried to flush it causing an overflow at city hall that went down the steps and out in to the street even. What a mess we had on our hands.
Oh Lord!
this is like England. x))
It's probably because it was it was part of Virginia.
Looks very european
its actually one of the most haunted places in america
+Pearl_poppy mc Bardstown is?
That's because not only this town, but a lot of American towns have literally stolen all the architecture from European countries like Greece, the Netherlands, and Switzerland. If you visit some old towns and cities in those countries, you'll see what I mean (if you haven't been there yet). I guess it's a consequence of the US being a country build on immigrants, and a lot of the initial Dutch and English immigrants knew the architecture in these countries.
idiot
True. Okh middle school was a civil war hospital. Lots of stories I’ve heard. Basketballs being dribbled in the gym at night.
I'm sure it's a lovely place, but why do you need to officially state that one place is more beautiful than another. It seems pointless.
But the murders.
This was before the murders
What murders?
I have been here many times. There are about a 100 small towns in just Maine much better and more beautiful than Bardstown and anything in Kentucky.
Are people in mixed marriages accepted?
Jergens Roberdeaux any race is welcome
Absolutely! They're pretty common in KY nowadays.
@@jordannapier9337 in Bardstown they are?
This place ain’t the most beautiful small town. There’s very sinister things that have happened here and things that will continue to happen. Mark my words
Like the disappearance of cristal rodgers
No. You're wrong, yeah some things have happened, but what city doesn't have those things? I promise you that Rand McNally and all his professional city mappers and judges, know better than you. I live here and it's AMAZINGLY BEAUTIFUL
Real I live here
Just dont swim in the local rivers lol.
Slender man also chills here 👌🏻
No, but Bigfoot does, lol
Soda fountain workers should dress in white uniforms like the 1950s.

Well... you are a nice looking town, but not the Most Beautiful, by a long shot.
It won most beautiful small town because of the attractions and the shopping, and because of borban Festival dont judge if I didnt spell that right

American arquitecture is ugly. Just red boxes with windows plus no seats outside of restaurants these people are always secluded.
As compared to where??
There are so many types of american architecture. You are one dull light bulb.
Lol that town is the dull light bulb.
This video doesn't have that tho. Are you blind
Umm, staaahp. Yo greasy grandmammy
I didn't see anything special about it. It's still a small town. I don't really care for small towns. Small towns = small town mentality. No thanks you can have it.
Couldn't you have just kept moving instead of being a negative Karen
Most beautiful small town in america ,that's not saying much ,the automobile has destroyed the american city.
Joe Biden President 2020 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸😇👍
Wow. How ya feel about that now? Clueless
Bardstown is rich in Alcohol and God and apparently in that order. 🙄
What? You're very wrong.
This is where those killer cops got away with murdering all those people.
