  • Jim Niell's HO scale model railroad represents the Southern Pacific LA Division's Bakersfield Subdivision, with the iconic Tehachapi Loop, set in the early 1970s. It is an operations-oriented layout that models the heavy mainline traffic of the SP and tenant Santa Fe between Bakersfield and Mojave, California. Enjoy, comment and please like!

Been there/done that. Retired from Southern Pacific in 1997. Worked nearly all subdivisions from Roseburg, OR to Tucumcari, NM. Hired out in Tracy, CA. Spent a lot of time working out of West Colton, Tracy, Tucson, Dunsmuir, & Tucumcari. Brakeman/Conductor. Great job you're doing on the layout! Take care Railfan....

Marcelo, thank you for the kind words on Jim's layout! Greetings form California. The prototype Tehachapi Loop attracts visitors from all over the world and I'm glad that you came from so far (Argentina!) to see it. Back in the 1990s I met two German Air Force pilots at The Loop who were training at nearby Edwards Air Force base and wanted to see Tehachapi for themselves :)

@@ndemrailfan909 thank you I wish some day in the future if time and money permit, came back, but the engines i liked are gone, dont like the ge locos, and the emd is gone too,so, those loved sd45, in all types , were scrapped or sold, in brazil near to argentina, there are lots of ex sp, emds, regauged to meter gauge, and battling and roaring at full 8

I enjoyed the history of your layout.. looks like it is enjoyable to operate on.. Is the CTC panel mainly to operate turnouts or does it have sum signal capability? 🤔🤗

Hi Daylight Dave, glad you liked it! It's a realistic and fun layout to operate. The CTC panel, through the switch levers (top row, like a US&S machine) operates the turnouts from Sandcut through Tehachapi; field equipment at the control points and intermediate blocks displays signal indications based on track occupancy and switch position. Currently the CTC panel signal levers are inoperative, but they will eventually be interfaced with modules that will allow the dispatcher to set the signals as well.

@@ndemrailfan909 Thanks for the information... Sounds Cool. !! Im actually slowly shutting down my CTC panel in favor of being a roaming dispatcher with my NCE DCC Throttle controlling switches and signals... DD 🤗
