Great awning copy of the ostrich wing I installed mine with quick release brackets so it doesn’t spend all its time on the vehicle allowing access to undercover car parks The arms are also individually replaceable if one gets bent
Cheers Cam, another great video mate and just wanted to say it was great to catch up with you at the Perth 4x4 show. My 9yr old son Liam really enjoyed talking to you and thanks for answering the 3000 questions he asked you about your canopy build an dthe car. All the best to you, Tiff and family.
I hade my 2.7m for a couple of years, use it nearly everyday at work. I found that the lights from kings in their lighting kit slide into the grooves in the extrusions on the arms perfectly.
Love my 30 second awning had it for over six years never had any trouble with it Only thing might have to look at getting a new cover starting to show the signs of the sun cheers thanks for sharing I didn’t know you could get a smaller one
Picked up a 2.7m awning the other week, installed it yesterday. Cheers for the 5% discount Cam, legend. I ended up getting the Kaon brackets for it, as it uses 3 of them, spreads the weight between two rungs of my Rhino Pioneer, and i can adjust the height to suit. All up, it's solid as, I have no worries now with going over corrugations and something shearing/snapping. So much easier than my other 2.5m x 2.5m awning, which was a pain to put up solo, even worse if a little breeze about
Brought the 2.7m awning last year from your reviews. Love it! On a dualcab and happy with the size. We use it heaps and the ease of setup means it gets opened even for a coffee stop. Great to see the shorter version though.
I have the 2.7 hangs forward over the cab. There is 4 of us to get under the cover so I like the larger space. I would suggest Cam got the shorter as he seems to only use it when he is solo travelling. I love it either way. Super easy to set up and pack up.
Just found your channel. We are looking to get one of these for our Prado 150. The wall option looks great I notice one end is open, can you get a wall for that end as well. It looks like all the walls on the 2.7m are the same length. On your video the 2.1m sections looks to be different widths. Is this the case or just the distortion from the camera? How has it stood up over time? If you are still watching the comments can I ask a few questions that I cant find answers for on their site I need my Prado 150 to be below 2.1 meters for parking lots and still be able to open the side door. Can you let me know the mounting hole vertical centres & the backbone height. Plus the distance from the top bolt channel centre to the top of the bag and the depth of the bag. From another video I saw it looks like the is more bag below the bottom of the backbone than the top. I presume the 2.1 meters is the length of each are? or is it the full length of the unit/bag when in stored position. If it fits my vehicle requirements I think I will get one of these.
Great awning. Had mine for a few years now. Have been thinking about the walls. Glad u showed them on this video clip. Definitely a future purchase I think. 👍
Great vid Cam! Just what I was looking for . . I've been trying to decide between the 2.1 and 2.7 for a while now . . . . I like the 2.1 for the size of it on the car - 2.7 would look a bit like a joustin stick i reckon . . . . I have a Prado 90 series so it has the barn door at the back. Do you think the 2.1 would cover the door when its open? (If you can picture having the barn door open which is almost as wide as the car) . . . . I'm just trying to work out if I'm better off getting the 2.7 and entering jousting contests . . . or can I get away with looking a bit less jousty and still cover the barn door with the 2.1 . . . . . Oh, another quick question - Have you noticed much difference in the actual shade coverage between the 2? Cheers in advance mate, Ben
I'm guessing the folding bracket is to fold the whole setup back on top of the roof rack for narrow tracks etc? That is such a great idea although it makes me a little worried about how easily it could be stolen by removing only 2easy to access bolts??
I also have a 2.1 metre awning. Its very easy to set up. I purchased the quick release brackets which I’m not that fussed about, I think there are probably better versions of the quick release system available but the awning is great
Cheers Cam, great video. Loved the little sound bite at the end. Oh and your fitness regime, I can see your in peak physical fitness 🤣🤣. Easy to set up and pack away too. Cheers Mark...
Hey mate, appreciate the reviews. Can’t find dimensions anywhere for the newer 2.1m like distance off car to side and rear when set up? Don’t suppose you have measured this?
Regarding the bag, you said it’s your fault. Well it’s not really. If they’re designing a awning to put on the side of a 4WD then surly it’s up to them to do the research & product testing to gain the knowledge. The knowledge being 4WDs are put through their paces and are exposed to all weather conditions and overgrown tracks, therefore a need to create a hard & robust bag/cover to protect the awning while not in use & traveling.
Not sure how you'd make it any more robust though. Short of an aluminium box? Steel panels on the car have faired the same. Scratched through the paint back to bare metal and dents.
@@WildTouring Some other companies use a canvas bag rather then PVC, combined with doubling up layers on the front/rear of the bag. But 5-6 years out of a pvc bag is decent enough since its plastic sitting in the sun all day every day.
Nice review mate, so which would you prefer between 2.7 and 2.1? I’ve got a dual cab but just worried that the 2.1 isn’t big enough because cost wise it’s not much between them
I reckon the 2.1 is fine. Because it’s free standing you can leave it up and reposition car if the shades moving. And if you’re worried about west weather, then grab a wall- because they come out at an angle it increases the covered area by heaps.
Cheers mate. It’s an aluminium channel/strut (like uni strut), but I’m not sure of the actual brand. Thunderfab, the fabricators that built my canopy fitted it.
Its a great awning, but because of the design a lot of the cover comes towards the rear. So its suitability would depend on the layout of the van/camper i reckon.
Another informative review. Especially the fitness segment. However I do have one query. Does the canopy door rest against the awing framework or canvas when opened?
It is touching on my vehicle at the moment. But it was only temporarily fitted to the vehicle for the 4x4 show. Its coming off and will be mounted to the boat rack in a couple of weeks and will clear the door.
@@WildTouring Thank you for the prompt reply. My canopy door was really compromised when the awing was extended. Raising the awing higher enough to clear meant the awing when stowed was to high for my comfort. (low branches etc) However the 30 second awing In the vid looked acceptable. I will watch future vids to see what difference mounting yours higher will make. Thank you again.
@@bobklincke4671 Could you lower your canopy door? By adjusting strut position or swapping for a shorter strut if thats not possible? My strut brackets have multiple holes to adjust door height - but I wouldnt go any lower on mine because im too tall and my head wouldnt clear the door if i dropped it any lower.
@@WildTouring Yeah tried that. Unfortunately that option interfered with the operation of the 95lt fridge slide/drop. However thank you for taking the time to consider my situation.

The led strip lights
The ones in the four bar or 5 bar camp lighting kit

We did as well - we brought two lol - one for the FJ and one for the 200
Looking grabbing one of these for our 100 series, would you suggest going with the 2.1 or 2.7 sized unit ?

Crackin vid Cam, straight up no sugar coated crap, keep up the awesome honest reviews mate
nice Awning one of the better one i've seen
Thanks for the review
I will be putting one of these, probably 2.7M, on my IEOS Grenadier when it arrives

Good honest informative review mate. Classic dad humour with the chin ups at the end😂😂 Keep up the good work.
Is there a way to address the gap between the rear of the vehicle and the awning?
Great review, cheers mate!👍
Mate great bit of kit... certainly a fair difference to the ole kings cheapies!
Yeah things have come a long way!!

Righto. You’ve convinced me to add this to the wish list haha. Thanks for the discount code.
Haha no dramas Elvin
Good vid. Cam, where is that spot you filmed in? Looks pretty darn nice. Good to see you at the 4WD show too. Thanks - Peter V.
hi mate looks good got one few month ago got the fold down brackets there the go
Impressed very impressed
Hey mate great review. Just a question, how much height do you think you would save having the fold down brackets?
I reckon somewhere between 50-100mm. It’s not going to be a lot, but maybe enough to just scrape in under the carport for some!
Thanks mate, purchased and used your code
Whats the length of the poles on the awning? had a look on their website but isnt stated anywhere. The joys of a 2.8m high truck.

Cheers mate. It’s an aluminium channel/strut (like uni strut), but I’m not sure of the actual brand. Thunderfab, the fabricators that built my canopy fitted it.
In your opinion, would the 2.7m, 30 sec awning be a reasonable replacement for the standard roll out awning on your camper/caravan?
Its a great awning, but because of the design a lot of the cover comes towards the rear. So its suitability would depend on the layout of the van/camper i reckon.
Could also go the 180

This looks good but i bought the ostrich wing years ago.
Haha you’re a funny buggar, love your chin ups 👍👍👍🍻
do the awning walls fit both awnings? :)
Nah you can either get the 2.1m wide or the 2.7m wide ones 👍🏼
Good vid mate. 👍👍
Yuk! Carlton mid.... Great Northern for me mate!
More importantly: how’s Tiff going? When’s the new bubs due?
She's going good mate, bub will be here within the next couple of weeks!
Going to post a video with Tiff next weekend :)
Cracking awning 🍺
Hi all, can anyone tell me if this awning is grey in colour? Can’t see properly thanks
I'd say its more of a sandy/tan sort of colour.
I thought it's going to be a 30 second video, being a 30 second awning!
Hey Cam good video how is Tiff
Cheers mate, she’s big and uncomfortable. But happy! Posting a video this weekend with a bit of an update from her.
Fuck yeh good set up 👍👍👍👍🇦🇺
What's the deal with the folding brackets?
They fold. So less height
@@hiluxjase6665yeah I still can't picture it. To me it looks like the only way it can fold is up creating more height
The awning packed up is about 250mm tall and 150mm wide. So by folding back on itself you knock off about 100mm in overall vehicle height. 👍🏼
Hey Cam, what happened to the knife you were trying?
Had some issues with the branding and can't sell them unfortunately. Looking for a more reliable wholesaler to source them at the moment.
The rig's looking good.
That's the 4be not you lol thanks Cam
Haha cheers Shaun
So is Notting Hill your favourite movie?……..
Just a struggle to get the 2.7m walls at the moment.
Yeah they’re selling out quick every time they get stock in!
