I feel like I’m doing something wrong. When I go to splice when I set it to 0 for some reason that’s when the blur really kicks in but when I set it to 100 it’s very visible.
Hi, please check video around @2:04. After copy, please make sure that you select first video to which blur effect was applied, and not copied video, and then click on overlay to move it to other layer. In your case, I think it is opposite. In your case also you can achieve same result. You just need to apply mask to differen layer. Please let me know if you need still any help.

Some problems mentioned in comments and solution to it: 1. Blur effect not available or basic category is not available --> After new update CapCut has updated categories. Blur is now moved in "Lens" category and Basic category now removed. 2. Blur is on opposite side --> Please use invert button inside mask to change on which side blur should appear. 3. Even though step 1 followed blur is not appearing --> Please make sure blur effect is applied to overlay video and not to maintrack video. To check and make sure, please select blur effect and then go to object. There you can see maintrack as well as overlay video. So please select overlay video. 4. Blur appears but after sometime disappears --> Please check if blur layer is applied for whole time or only 3 seconds like default.
@CrackedMB Sometimes, effects are applied to outside and not inside. You need to use the invert button to reverse the effect, or it is also dependent upon which layer you have applied effect to Maintrack or overlay.

@andrewvillarvlog6762 Select blur effect layer and then at bottom you will see options. Click on object and there you can select for which video you want blur to be applied. Select overlay video. Next step you select overlay video and then apply mask to blur only masked area so that other area see normal.

@the7tongardengnome Yes, you have to add effect again, or there is a copy button when you select effect. You can watch my another tutorial, which is for CapCut PC. If you have a laptop/desktop, then it is easy to edit longer videos.

I assume you moved video without blur overlay. No issues! Please select Blur effect and at bottom you will see option Object. Click on that. Then you will see 2 buttons Main Video and Overlay. Please select overlay. Let me know if it solved the issue.
I know this method already but I want an easier way than this one. Actually I want that I blur a specific area of the video like number plate of the car only once and than the blur area should move automatically with the video... Is it possible....

You should trim the overlay video where you apply blur effect at desired locations. Then, in between parts where you don't need blur, just delete that trimmed video.

Hi, in splice or both videos make sure that the value is 100 and not 0. Have you applied blur effect to any video (Main track or overlay)? If yes, then you should be able to see effect layer. Please select it and click on Object button at bottom. Using that button, you select the video to which you want to apply blur. For my method shown, the blur effect should be applied to overlay video as it is covering main track video and then using mask you can blur only the selected area. Please also read my pinned comment at top, which has solutions to all problems encountered by my viewers.
You may need to do a new video to the update version because I did step for step and it keep blurring out the entire video and make the part I want to be blurred visible
I will do a new one for sure. But you can solve this issue if you click on invert button. Invert switches the area which you want to blur and unblur. It is at the bottom left corner.
If you are talking about video split into left and right part, then you need to use overlay video option. Add same video 2 times and then use crop option. I will make tutorial in few days. Stay tuned!!!

You need to have the same video on the main track as well as overlay. Otherwise, you will see the black area. So please make sure to follow the tutorial step by step.

Sorry for the late reply! Basic options should work without the internet. But effects and certain features need internet. It works on Windows, Mac OS, iOS, and Android. Other OS if supported or not that I do not know.
Thank you for this video! I Need help! So I followed each step on my phone at least I thought my entire video is still blurred except the part I actually need blurred.
If you go inside mask there is button named "invert" if your app language is English. Generally it is in bottom left corner. It allows you to switch mask. For example, you want inside of shape visible or outside of shape visible. Please let me know if it helped or not.

Hi, you need to use keyframes. In this tutorial, car is moving so I have moved the mask to match number plate movement and added keyframe. Please watch video @4:06 at 0.5x Speed.
Ok now I understand that you have multiple moving images in same video. Then you need to do for one image, export the video and then use this exported video and follow same strategy for second image and so on. Or use sticker (such as emoji or blur image) and keyframe for stickers.

Hey hi! I just checked the app again. It seems I am also getting dark edge around the mask shapes. I think it is either bug in the app with latest update or they introduced it knowingly. My suggestion would be to screen record or take screenshot of this issue and mail to CapCut. May be they will make it like before in next update.

You need to select effect and then find the object button, and then you can select for which video you want to apply. To control for how long you want it, you need to trim that effect or video. Then, remove the effect from that trimmed video where you don't want it.

Hi again! Copy and paste overlay layer where you already applied rectangular mask and may be keyframes. Then change position of rectangle mask to blur other area of video. After copy you need to move timeline back to first video which you copied and then at the bottom you should scroll till you see overlay button. Then click on that. Please watch video from time 1:50 to know what I mean. Please do not skip video and watch carefully, because I have covered all steps in deatils. Also try using invert button in Mask, if it is still not working. Please let me know, if your problem is solved or not.

This is really helpful but the only thing that’s going wrong is every time I choose a mask it will remove the whole entire background and the object that it’s circling it will only leave that for you to see the rest of the screen is black and I don’t get why is doing that but thank you for making a tutorial

When I do those same exact steps, after I overlay main video, when I go to splice the video it literally is visible on 100
After I do the overlay my video is not blurry anymore so when I do splice it’s visible at 100

one problem - the "blur" effect does not apply for the overlay, but for the maintrack video only.
Select blur effect, at the bottom tap on Object and then you can change video to which you want to apply blur effect.

There is no menu slice but blend
You are right. In earlier version of CapCut it was Slice, now it is Blend.

You can do that by trimming or splitting clips at the position in between which you want blur effect.

In the mask option, you should see invert button. If you click it, then it will do opposite so inside rectangle will be blur and not outside.

Cant find effects in android version 2023. There is no such button and the filters tab has no blur. Maybe its something for paid version?
It is moved under Lens. Go to video effects and then go to Lens. You will find blur under that category or tab.

Ok now I understand that you have multiple moving images in same video. Then you need to do for one image, export the video and then use this exported video and follow same strategy for second image and so on. Or use sticker (such as emoji or blur image) and keyframe for stickers.

Whenever I mask the blur effect into any shape, there’s a blacking edge (darkar edge with a borderline) is showing around the shape. I want my blur mask without any border line or darker edge. Can you tell me how can I remove this edge?
Hey hi! I just checked the app again. It seems I am also getting dark edge around the mask shapes. I think it is either bug in the app with latest update or they introduced it knowingly. My suggestion would be to screen record or take screenshot of this issue and mail to CapCut. May be they will make it like before in next update.
There was some trial and error i had to do a few different things but overall this helped.

I followed the same steps but mine instead of getting blurred

What to do
Use the invert button in the masking option.
when I add blur, I have it on all videos, not just the main one
You need to select effect and then find the object button, and then you can select for which video you want to apply. To control for how long you want it, you need to trim that effect or video. Then, remove the effect from that trimmed video where you don't want it.

Hi again! Copy and paste overlay layer where you already applied rectangular mask and may be keyframes. Then change position of rectangle mask to blur other area of video. Same process again if you need 3rd mask. I have created recently similar blur tutorial but for CapCut Desktop version. In that tutorial, I have shown how one can add 2 blur masks. Hi, CapCut has renamed the categories and rearranged effects into new categories. Blur can be found under Lens category.
why it doesn’t work? the video that i copied not blur after overlay . whyyy ? pleaseee help meee 😭
After copy you need to move timeline back to first video which you copied and then at the bottom you should scroll till you see overlay button. Then click on that. Please watch video from time 1:50 to know what I mean. Please do not skip video and watch carefully, because I have covered all steps in deatils. Also try using invert button in Mask, if it is still not working. Please let me know, if your problem is solved or not.

After export, the blur not so much of a blur.
Use same effect 2-3 times by copy paste. It increases blur intensity.

This is really helpful but the only thing that’s going wrong is every time I choose a mask it will remove the whole entire background and the object that it’s circling it will only leave that for you to see the rest of the screen is black and I don’t get why is doing that but thank you for making a tutorial
Hi, in the mask at the bottom there is invert button. Please tap on it. Then it will mask object and show background.
