that cage is not too small. It's the perfect size for a hamster. It's a 'rat cage' from petsmart. And she cleverly made another story. I will be upgrading MY too small critter trail house to one of these. $$$$ :(

1. Hamsters back must not arch on a wheel no matter what, provide your hamster with a wheel that allows them to run with a straight spine. 2. Mesh and barred wheels are bad and can be deadly. If you can't get a solid floor wheel attach card board on the outside of the wheel. But a solid floor wheel is always better. 3. Cage is too small. Bare minimum is 360 sq inches (20 gallon tank) (24×15 inches) 80×50 cm)
The mesh will hurt your hammie's feet. You should get a silent spinner or comfort wheel. You can also just put duck tape on the mesh so that it won't hurt the hamster : )

There is no such thing as a black bear hamster. It is a fake name pet stores give so you overpay. There are only 5 species which are the Syrian ( what you have) , Chinese, Campbell's Russian dwarf, winter white dwarf, and roborovski dwarf.
