He did record it, but with the Chicago and Leinsdorf. The Beethoven #1 from the first half of this concert was recorded and released by RCA. It’s nice to have this one available after all these years.

@@RaineriHakkarainen Duly noted. Here it is, for others to listen and make up their own mind.
This was recorded quite a long time after the Leinsdorf. The Paris orchestra is no match for the power of the Chicagoans.

That's the one. I have both the 1960 vinyl and the CD that came out years later. I'm glad for that because I wore out the vinyl pretty much. (and because piano is notoriously difficult to get on vinyl without a lot of distortion or needle noise) Sokolov is the only one I've ever heard in the same class with Richter. They play it differently, but equally well I think. I'd give the nod to Richter, but maybe that's because I've heard it so many times.

A very particular kind of performance. A lot of coughing. It's really slow too so you can really hear every part. A really rare old thing. Best

@@fa-la-mi-mi-re I think Richter recorded it a few days EARLIER with Erich Leinsdorf and the Chicago Symphony on October 17, 1960. This was, I think, a live performance in Boston with Charles Munch and the BSO on November 1, 1960. I've heard (but can't verify) that Richter did not like the fast tempi of Leinsdorf. I would imagine that he liked this performance with Munch better.
