The mild and subtle humor is my favorite part
that got me too.
I actually burst out laughing at 11:35. He really had me there, I had it in my head and it all went so wrong, and kept going wrong. Masterpiece
You're like, the one tech youtuber whose notification bell actually means anything.
EXACTLY
NEW 65SCRIBE?
EVERYONE DROP WHAT YOU'RE DOING RIGHT NOW
“Without doing ads”
*3 30 second unskippable ads back to back*
Damn he played me like a fiddle
Hmm... I specifically checked skippable ads since it was just there for the joke. That’s unfortunate.
@@65scribe And here, 5 and a half months later, I completely miss the joke because it didn't play any ads. And, no, I don't have an ad blocker installed.
I guess sometimes you get lucky and it plays through.
I noticed that!! As soon as I heard "without doing ads" and immediately it went to ads not only did I laugh slightly hysterically but the timing was so good I didn't even get "ad angry"!!
I laugh so hard whenever you trot out that 'Europe' map :P
You were there for us when no one else was.
The minute you said I copied the program I knew DP was back. This series needs a fandom site. So much lore and characters.
A fandom site would be ridiculous and hilarious. :)
No other content creator can make me drop everything I’m doing to watch them. Cheers, 65scribe.
Thanks DCVK!
I don’t know anything about old Macs. I’m just here for the beaded ladies and beaded poodles.
Ha! That's great! :)
Thrilled to finally see the mystery of the GIMO port solved, and of course, to see another great video.
Man, for a simple error correction video, this had me laughing.
As always, love what you do man. Really. It's just the right touch of serious and informative mixed with comedic absurdity -- a rare thing on UA-cam these days. Keep it up.
Also, 4:40 was one of the funniest things I've seen in a long, long time -- my only comment was "Oh yeah, we don't talk about the Apple Network Server."
Thanks so much! I'm glad to hear that the Server reveal worked.
That ad placement made me laugh :) glad to see you upload , i really enjoy your channel
Thanks for being the only UA-camr who apologizes for errors.
The one Macintosh that probably created the most stir in all of Macdom was the ill-fated Twentieth Anniversary Macintosh. If you can get your hands on one, it's worth a video. There is so much history surrounding this beast. The best part was the product's introduction, which also featured the return of Steve Jobs to the stage with Amelio. Jobs HATED the TAM. You could see it on his face when the product rose up from the stage. Jobs wouldn't even look at it, just stood looking straight ahead, sneering at the audience. One of the first things Jobs did when he staged his coup was to kill the TAM. The problem this thing had was that the production orders were so small that not one of the internal product managers wanted to take on the project. They saw it as a massive waste of resources (which turned out to be very true). But Amelio felt it would be his signature product. "I made PROMISES!" he once shouted at his direct reports when they told him that no one wanted to work on it. The story of how Bose got its fingers in the product is a great one, too, particularly how Bose managed to put the power supply inside the subwoofer, which by virtue of the subwoofer's lowpass characteristics removed the power supply's fan whine! Hence the now-infamous "fire hose." Finally, there was the dreaded TAM Buzz that no one at Apple managed to solve. Or wanted to solve.
That's a big 'if' as far as getting hold of a TAM, but you're right. It has a great story, and some of your information I've never heard before. Very interesting! I talked a bit about the TAM in the G4 Cube video, partly because I figured that's as close as I would get to talking about the TAM in this series. Thanks for sharing that!
Hahaha.. That zoom out to show the server was absolutely beautiful. * *chefs kiss* *
Glad to hear you liked that, Mike. That shot was half the excuse to do that video.
Thank you for keeping all this mac history alive.
You're welcome! I appreciate that you see such value in these videos.
...requisite back office oil lady segment!
Paul Muad'dib ... the oil museum gift shop that never stops giving.
9:23 .. wait a minute..
Good ol' Concertware. The synthesis method it used for the instruments was surprisingly flexible, being a blend of FM and waveform synth. You could either have it calculate the waveform based on harmonics you selected, or you could freehand draw a waveform for some truly weird results. Add in the highly flexible envelope controls, and you could get just about any sound profile you wanted short of direct sampling. The 4 channel limitation (8 when controlling an external MIDI device) was its biggest drawback, but ProTracker, one of the Amiga's most popular music programs, had the same 4 channel limit.
Not sure what to make of the song melting down like that. Didn't really sound like the Concertware I'm used to, though that could just be recording techniques. The off-pitch and jumbled notes makes me think editing, but was it editing the song in Concertware, or in post production?
Interesting information! Thanks!
The jumbled mess of 'The Entertainer' was because, back in the day, I pirated a rental copy of Concertware, and one of the previous renters decided to save his "work" back to the rental disk. In these modern times, I downloaded the 'unaltered' version of Concertware from Macintosh Garden, and that tune sounds MUCH better. Rapper 'Double Def DP' was right that software theft does not pay.
Scott Joplin was such a great musician, really a shame that he died of syphilis.
It didn't say that in the song synopsis did it? I had to go back and check. Lol.
I love your videos man! I just keep on watching them over and over without getting bored. Your endless knowledge combined with your hilarious sense of humor makes them such a pleasure to watch.
Keep em coming, you’re great at it!
Thanks Jelle! Good to know they have replay value.
Wow, this is channel is one of my best UA-cam findings. I love how meticulous and funny your videos are. In an ocean of millennial UA-camrs making videos on the "latest and greatest " pieces of technology, your channel is a treasure. Thank you.
Need another Mac video dude! SE/30? Clamshell? This is the best Mac Channel on UA-cam along side Jason's Macintosh Museum
Thanks very much! I don’t think the next featured Mac will be expected, but hope you enjoy it.
This is quality and quirky content! Really love it!
Thanks Victor!
Always happy to see a new 65scribe video. Love your long-form retrospectives.
I really enjoy the lore you have created, all the plots, stories and characters you show are really entertaining. Thank you for everything you've made.
I appreciate that Frank. It is fun building on those things from video to video, and I will be adding to it shortly. ;) I hope things are going well for you in Spain.
I've gotta get to that Ontario Oil Museum!
Petrolia discovery oil museum opens again this spring!
Useless comment but ok, believe it or not, when the clip of that guy who jumped back away because of a loud shock, well I exploded in laughter … I love these videos. They are excellent and well, I can't say enough.
Thanks Alex! Appreciate you taking the time to give feedback on various videos. The guy who jumped back from the loud shock was actually me. It was from little comedy films my friend and I used to do in the 90's. It was not expected to be so loud, so it was a legitimate reaction.
Just discovered your channel and loving it. Please note, NewerTech doesn’t sell those 4.5V PRAM batteries any more (just click the BUY link). I liked your mod but you can get a battery holder that takes 3 AAAs on eBay that’ll do the same job. Again, great stuff.
Augh. Now I have to do a correction to my corrections video. No, actually, thanks for the tips on the battery and I'm glad you found the channel.
I like it when you say cerd. And macintosh. Don’t stop.
Ha! Thanks, Øy!
I'm now at the point of watching your vids for a second or third time - and they always make me laugh. Thanks!
Love the videos and the Ontario accent.
What accent? ;) Thanks!
Another excellent video! Thank you for putting the time into these 👍
Aw man, don't tease us with that Apple Network Server!
That aside, I think it would be really cool if you did a video on one or more of the PC-Compatible Macs, talking about their history and detailing how they work, what their limits were.
DUDE
Do one on that Mac Server!
Both excellent ideas :)
Thank you for doing these videos! Very educational and well put together.
You’re welcome. I appreciate the feedback!
I love your channel and this video is a welcome treat.
Elf Bowling was my jam, I can't believe I just saw that clip.
I had gone a bit more into Elf Bowling in an earlier video - the Power Macintosh 9500.
Bravo! [insert gif of applauding audience giving standing ovation].
Thank you! Thank you! Too kind, far too kind. [insert gif of false modesty]
@@65scribe Check out the videos I've put up of Mac goodies...I think you'll like 'em ;-)
As always, excellent work.
Thank you, Chris!
I just love this channel
I freaking love your videos man, keep it up!
Thanks very much!
Dude. do not feel bad. And thanks for pointing out a lot of revisionism in mac history.
Thanks Michael. I was pretty surprised that so many sites (and a book!) just copy and paste, and don't check a primary source.
I can’t wait to see more videos
9:24 oh for christsakes you WOKE UP MY CAT AGAIN.
Ha! Sorry about your cat.
oh boy you are so funny... and clever... love your videos... keep doing more! color classic?
Thank you, Pierre! And good suggestion. I have been intending on looking at the Colour Classic, since it is a model I have.
Finally proving to the previous generation, just because it is a primary source does not mean it is more accurate than the internet.
Everyone's a critic right? It's the one who as Louis CK would call "non-contributing zeros" are the ones that are a pet peeve of mine. Good work, I really enjoy watching your videos as both informative and nostalgia inducing.
Not a Mac guy. Never cared for Apple but after just completing a Mac 512K all original rebuild I ran across your videos and I say, I like them and it's interesting.
Thanks for leaving a comment, Troy! Nice job rebuilding the 512K to it's original state. Must be a satisfying accomplishment. I'm glad you found the videos and, more importantly, liked them!
@@65scribe no... thank you. I know they're not mechanically technical videos but entertaining and precise nonetheless. I will say this though, this old 512K has given me an appreciation for Macintosh I've never had before. The ability to fit a GUI onto such limited hardware far before existing commercial OS's could is impressive. Again than you and PLEASE keep it up.
I stayed for the error chords.
1:27 lol those sound like Mac Tool Box sounds... like really hardware layer style.
You have the right idea. That was actually off one of the earliest Texas Instruments TI99 games, cleverly titled 'Video Games 1'.
just doesnt seem to be a usual video from you with out atleast one "DAMN!" in the video, and ohh no.. you let DP out again... there goes the internet..
sorry about DP, guys..
Oldie but goodie :).
Brilliant! love your sense of humour...and wondering how long the don’t copy that floppy meme will last?!
This was a fun video. It deserves more views and likes.
Thanks Christopher! Glad to hear that. Unless it features a Mac model most viewers skip the video, it seems.
Computers may be a "Harold" type thing, but you are totally Red Green!
That’s definitely the greatest analogy I’ve ever read in these comments, and a great complement!
“Without doing ads” and runs a ad 😂
`That tune at the end is great for a Halloween movie..
Is the white noise in the background from your camera, or do you add it later? It sounds so natural and relaxing. I love this about your videos. Makes them “warmer”.
While I don't use a 1960 dictaphone as implied in my previous video, my external clip-on mic is not the greatest. Glad to hear it gives it some atmosphere. Thanks!
mid tower the classic form factor of most windows computers
I have a book that says the first Mac was the Macintosh Classic... T-T
ha!
...... why would you name it classic if it was the first? Gah!
The dead Mac chime and the reference to Mac Pro (Early 2037) lore 😂 ❤
I’m glad a few people like the Mac Pro (Early 2037) lore. Hah!
I love this so much.
Woohoo new video.. Interesting stuff about fulltowers
More videos! More videos!
H E L L O
doot
I think it would be cool for you to do a video at the Colour Classic.
Thanks Jackson. I definitely will do that one when I get a chance.
Great video, as always. Maybe this has been asked before, but... What software/hardware do you use to edit your videos? I'm legitimately curious. And does not UA-cam allow the uploading of 4:3 aspect videos? I would love to watch this on my Sony Trinitron or my Studio Display.
The hardware is a 2008 MacPro, which has served me flawlessly for almost 12 years (except that optical drive drawer!) the software was Final Cut Express 3.5, but I stepped up to Final Cut Pro 7 for this last video. The video is filmed in SD 4:3 but upscaled to HD 720p before I upload, which does improve the picture quite a bit compared to my older SD uploads, but, unfortunately, won't show in proper 4:3 on your awesome displays. Thanks!
I really don't give a shit about macintosh's, but your videos are still the best damn thing on the boobtuub.
Wow, that's good to hear! I thought the videos would only play to the niche audience of Mac collectors and enthusiasts. I never thought I'd get any viewers beyond that, let alone the "don't give a shit about Mac" crowd. Thanks!
Another awesome video - thanks for that @65scribe! :-) loved the "iMac 3G" :-D
Say, what is the best way to get in touch with you? I'd like to ask you something.
Hi Sebastian. Glad to you liked the latest video! And, yes, if you you want to contact me, email me at rj.kells@cogeco.ca
In fairness to the user who didn't get the ethernet card with the coaxial port, perhaps they couldn't afford to get cable TV installed on their Mac! 🤣
Woh woh woh, in the first correction, what is that giant monster next to the 9500 ??? 🙀
Stay tuned...
65scribe I’l be happy to learn more about it :D
i shit you not, as soon as he said "without ads," I got hit with an ad.
Yessss, I'll take a new 65scribe video! ... Apple Network Server video please? :)
This apple (video) taste like winning.
nice daft pina chapter intro sound
It would calm my OCD if you could use the times sign for noting pixel measures like 512 × 342, instead of 512 x 342.
Point taken :)
Didn’t properly shut down the Mac at the end: -2 pts.
.....Mac proceeds to play “Don’t copy that floppy” rap in smoothly animated B&W: +100 pts.
Ha! That's great!
Not sure, but since there was no floppy in the drive at that point, I'm pretty sure it wasn't actually running anything. Probably just powered it on for the gag anyway.
Also, up until about System 6, the shutdown command did what the later restart command did. Specifically, ejecting any floppies still in their drives and doing a soft reset of the system, at which point you could turn it off safely.
DUUUUDE DID YOU HEAR WHAT THE MAN SAID?!?!?!?!?!??! DON'T, " *and I quote* " DON'T COPY THAT *F L O P P Y* ! But seriously good video!
Lol! Thanks very much!
12:27 Not again!!!
DAMN
Was that a Apple Network Server 700? :0!!
Yes! Well Apple Network Server 500 but practically identical.
@@65scribe what a gem!! Will we be getting a review/ insight?
Sy7ygy That is the plan.. :)
Apple curd?
Now you've got it!
8:15 for Damn!!
11:40 for hilarious bonus Damn!!
Thanks for cataloging most of the 'Damn!' incidents. It will be helpful if I need to find them myself. lol!
When you said without doing ads then oh and then the screen went black shortly after the screen went black i got an ad.
I set that ad up as a joke, but now that UA-cam throws ads in randomly, it just confuses people.
So can we get a video about whatever that THICC beast is? 4:40
Keep an eye on this channel :)
@@65scribe YES
Look. I realise that these videos clearly take a lot of time and effort and it certainly shows. But. I've seen them all know so please pull your finger out and make some more. Ta. :-)
Thanks for the motivational talk, Mike. :)
@@65scribe Yeah, thinking about writing a book.
"...overseas in Europe..." YMMD
:)
3:20 Since this is the internet and you LOVE commenters nitpicking your every word, I'm here to point out that "begs the question" is a technical term about a logical fallacy, and does NOT mean "raises the question" as you use it here. ◡̈
Your avatar mocks me as I read this....
One more correction: don't say "begs the question" when you mean "raises the question."
why... so... short... ???? (not that I mean you needed to make more corrections, but, you know, I think I could watch a 5 hour show without problem :))
Just a fun video for the subscribers. I'll go back to making standard videos now. They always turn out longer than I expect but probably not 5 hours. :)
Really, dude, a ww2 map? Hey.you got German viewers, too ;-)
:) Typical North American concept of Europe. I'm honoured to have German viewers with a good sense of humour.
4:42 - wtf is that
