While I don't agree with EVERY point in this discussion, I do appreciate the mostly-balanced perspective and insights. I hope more people in the UPC open themselves to the true concepts of critical race theory, and we're able to have fruitful discussions.
What was the civil war fought for? What led to the outbreak of the bloodiest conflict in the history of North America? A common explanation is that the Civil War was fought over the moral issue of slavery. In fact, it was the economics of slavery and political control of that system that was central to the conflict.
While I love Bernard's teachings on the Godhead, I am really disappointed to see and hear his remarks about race, slavery, discrimination, and CRT...very disappointed and troubled by the UPC's position on issues of race, as it pertains to African American history in this country and slavery. To this end, there isn't much to commend him for, in this segment on this matter. Sadly, Dr. Bernard thinks that the Civil War and Civil Rights movement have cured racism in this country or rectified the wrongs committed against black people in this country for over 400 years.
This is very close to what I teach in my adult education classes. In my experience, neither my black students nor my white students are open to discussion. As a historian myself, it is apparent to me that only persons who have read and studied widely are receptive to the realities of history. The most rabid rascists tend to be the least well-educated among us, and of those who claim to be Christian, a majority have put their own interpretations on scripture so that their religious practice is as flawed as their secular relationships.
This message needs to be heard here in Canada as well. So looking forward to you being in Saint John for our Mission Conference if our Supreme Leader Trudeau ever opens the border.
I agree but we still have to heal and deliver the wounds and symptoms from slavery that happened. If a team cheats to win and use the rewards of the stolen victories to keep the same people Down for a long period of time, then say “ hey we are sorry forgive us. How do we get the victims whole again?
CRT needs to be taught much like the OT is still taught. You simply cannot move forward if you never had an understanding of the past. CRTs intent isn’t to guilt an entire demographic; it’s simply to make sure it’s never forgotten so it’s injustices never recur. Nothing more, nothing less. I think white people feel guilty when they hear about the past & they don’t want to feel that. But guilt isn’t always a bad thing. Don’t we feel guilt when we sin? If we didn’t, would we recognize the need for change? CRTs goal isn’t condemnation, it’s conviction to prevent recurrence. We live in a time where accountability is too much for anyone to bear so even conviction has become unacceptable to many.
The second definition you gave, that white people are racist but black people cannot be, is not one I've heard by any CRT scholar. In fact, Ibram X. Kendi, the author of "How To Be An Anti-Racist" begins that book with a startling critique of a speech he himself gave, calling it unambiguously racist. His position, and I suspect most CRT advocates, is that racism crosses racial boundaries and that black people often are racist themselves -- but that that is not a *slur*, and shouldn't be viewed as one, but a helpful, eye-opening statement of fact.
yeah, I think every race views themselves favorably and is racist against others. Like so many modern-day young Asians I've talked to think white people are barbaric and that Asians are so smart and superior in various ways. Of course, I've also talked to Asians, especially older ones, who think white people are ideal and smart because of their technological advancements that came to Asia only later. I think seeing "ooh that person is different" is just human nature, and some people respond viciously or while others respond wishfully toward the other race.
There still is slavery; written into the 13th, i.e Chain Gangs. Really bad idea to write slavery into law, and keep it in. Instead of an opinion... i.e the 'Yorke-Talbot Slavery opinion'.
I don't believe America is a racist country but we are still feeling some of the affects of past policies. Redlining places blacks in segregated communities and these communities lacked decent schools and job opportunities. The main cause of poverty is being born into poverty. So the blacks that live in those communities are trapped in poverty. Where there is poverty, there is more drugs and more crime in general. Hence the war on drugs as disproportionately affected blacks. It's part of the reason why so many black youths are growing to be criminals because their fathers were sent to prison for much of their lives. The youths grew up without father figures. We need to take a different approach to drugs. America boasts that it's the world's freest country. We have the highest incarceration rate in the world except maybe North Korea. A far disproportionate percentage are black. I used to work in a prison. Thing need to change.

I stand by my white brothers and sisters in the church and throughout the world. We are all made in the Image of The Almighty God!!!! Thank you, Pastor Bernard for covering this topic!!!
This sounds like excuses, in order to defend a humanistic country, which is just like any other country. Sinful men founded nations throughout the ages. If there were intentional christian principles in the minds of the founding fathers, please explain.
How? History has already been rewrote. The true history is documented and College professors all over the earth admit what the settlers did in conquest and how they rewrote history. 100s of millions of Aboriginal people were kidnapped, slaughtered, raped, tortured, worked for free, miseducated, and deceived for centuries. That’s how Europe and its Western nations built wealth. Anyone who runs businesses and never has to pay the workers for centuries can build unfathomable wealth. These are facts sir. Neither one of us did any of this but this is what happened whether folks like it or not. This happened all over Europe, North/Central/South America, the Asian Pacific Islands, India, Pakistan, Philippines, Fiji, Australia, Nova Scotia, and the Caribbean. The Africans that sold Africans into slavery were not Black, they were Arabs.

Is there yet systemic racial issues that need be addressed in order to reconcile the past?
Is that a trick question?
We can't change the past, so put it under the blood and move forward in the Lord.
Yes! its funny how we say we can't change the past so put it under the blood, yet other nationalities such as the Indians get reconciliation.
I love and respect David Bernard. Thank-you for bridging the racial divide in the UPCI. Awesome leader.

I really appreciate a biblical view on today’s issues. Thank you so much Brother Bernard for sharing wisdom from Gods Word.
Well reasoned and balanced - something I appreciate so much about Dr. Bernard on basically every subject.
Great job Brother Bernard! I just completed Understanding God’s Word and I’m finishing up God’s Infallible Word. Thank you for everything you do!

Excellent job Bishop. As always 🙏🏽. GOD bless you
Well reasoned presentation Bishop. Absolutely wonderful.
Hopefully you add more volumes to your videos, other videos in UA-cam had loud audio on it...
Great insight, references, and information for this generation. Thank-you for sharing.

Pharaoh and his slavers were drowned in the red sea Pastor. Does this not apply?
The path forward with Jesus Christ at the helm.

Do Christians have the authority to defend oneself/family?
Thank you bishop Bernard

The founding fathers were tremendously flawed thinkers in the areas of race. They did not intention to not be racist.
But 1619 wants to rewrite history.
