DJI Pocket 3 is better for low light due to the large 1' sensor. But Action 4 provides a larger sensor than the Action 3, and is waterproof and can safely use at the beach even with sand blowing around. Having both gives you better flexibility. I sold my Action 3 and will get the 4. But will keep my Pocket 2 and get the 3. Use for 4k walk videos. Action 4 also has swappable higher capacity batteries you get 3 of them with the Adventure Combo version. Pocket 2/3 no one knows you're recording cause its small. The Action 3 struggled in low light which is why I sold it.
I like pocket 3 but since I also Mount my go pro 8 on helmet i might have to get DJI action 4. I will have to compromise on night shots. Now to add more confusion we have insta ace Pro 😂😂

I like everything about the Pocket 3 and compared to my Pocket 2 it's no brainer to get one. However, even though the Pocket has a bigger sensor, I like how the Action 4 holds well the hightlights and shadows. I know you can always set up to manual mode and use ND for the Pocket as well. I have both and they are both very excellent cameras. Each has specific strengths and weaknesses for different use cases and they complement rather than replace each other.

It’s good in low light because of the pixel size of the 1” sensor, not just that it’s a 1” sensor :) that’s why I got it over the action. Great overview! It was super helpful in helping me decide.

Excited for you! I got mine day after launch (BH Photo rocks!) and have really been enjoying it. Lots of nice little features that make this so convenient to use. I can jam sync it with my R5C and it’ll stay in sync for an hour (haven’t used it longer than that). Really interested in replacing my old go pro with Action 4 now for the timecode support. This think has so much possibilities for weddings on a monopod tracking to get those dolly shots or on 2x zoom with tracking on bride to get dynamic camera movement quick and easy.

The only weakness of Action4 is low light, but than is mainly because of electrical image stabilization EIS which needs fast shutter speed which is not possible in low light. Put it on your Gimbel in low light but turn EIS off, limit ISO to 1600 and you'll be surprised how good low light footage looks
if you have a good dust collection system (to keep the air clean) then the pocket 3 could be very nice but otherwise I would get the action 4 for your use

Some other differences - the Action 4 has a nice remote control accessory (works well - I have one) whereas of now, the Pocket 3 does not. The Action 4 works well with a selfie stick, the Pocket 3 does not as it just has the 1/4" threaded tripod mount at the base of the handle or battery grips. The Action 4 has easily swappable batteries; the Pocket 3 does not, though it does have the optional battery grip. The Pocket 3 itself does recharge more quickly than the Action 4.
@wmc6811 Action 4 does not need an external mic but ability to use if desired is nice. The Action 4 works in low light but is nowhere as good as the Pocket 3

I generally don't use filters on action cameras as it can mess up the stabilization, I will definitely use them on the pocket 3 as soon as I can get some

Question: Do you know if the battery pack on the P3 will work if the battery in the P3 is completely dead. Basically will it power right up or will it need to charge teh battery a bit. Im asking because of the non replaceable battery in the P3, if the battery dies and the battery extender can still power it, then it iwll have a lot more longevity over the years of use.

I prefer the OP3 if being used more vlogging style when you want to focus on the person, but the OA4 much better if where you are is more important. OP3 seems to work ok in a studio setting if needed too. Different tools for different needs. A late comment, but another great video. Btw I thought the OA4 didn’t do too badly in most of the low light examples.
Is it possible to change the subject tracking sensitivity? It seems to follow you really quickly, when I'd prefer it to be looser and just keep you in frame. Also are there any zebras/overexposure warnings displayed on the Osmo screen? Is it tough to get a good exposure? Thanks for the video
the exposure values are very easy to get and quite accurate to what you see on the screen I don't believe there are zebras/over exposure warnings as an option. Tracking speeds cannot be changed

I would get the pocket 3 UNLESS you plan to do stuff in bad weather (rain snow etc) or if you plan to wear the camera on you in the gym playing basket ball etc then I would get the action 4.
You cannot compare this 2 device! One is an action camera made for extreme sport also s*hit in low light and with electronic stabilisation! The other device is mechanical stab and better in low light.. the best is having them both and shoot on d-log so the clips matches . I have them both. 2 completely different devices. Great review. As you say, they have different roles. I didn't think the low light footage from the action 4 wasn't at all bad and you could put it on a tracking gimbal like the holhem I steady to get the follow mode. Maybe I need both 😂
Interesting and the lines look "straight" as well even that coming from Action 4. It begs a question though: can you possibly compare the "dewarp" from Action 4 vs "linear" on GoPro 12?

i have already watched around 14 videos for this comparison between OP3 and OA4. To be concluded, if you shoot more on LOW LIGHT condition, be sure to take OP3. It will work better, lot better. But if you don't, I think OA4 would be sufficient and more practical (size and battery wise, since OP3 can't change battery like OA4).
Thanks for the reply. When the battery handle is connected, both batteries 100%, camera turned off. When I next turn the camera on the handle is at 80%, camera still 100%. So not sure if camera battery drained and was topped up by handle as it is designed to do or the handle battery drained. Disconnected them last night and this morning both had lost just 1%, which is fine. Now going to leave them connected for a similar length of time and see if them being connected is part of the problem. Thanks again for the reply.
Interesting that it will shoot 3072×3072 for 1:1 video or 3072×1728 16x9 mode which I am assuming is the vertical mode when holding the Pocket 3 vertically. I wonder what the sensor crop-factor is for this mode and if it's more-than or less-than the full 4K 3840x2160 mode. I have mine on order right now so I guess I'll find out soon by testing if nobody answers me here.
I like your reviews. Pocket 3 looks great but I think it is a pity to intentionally blur these beautiful mountains in the background! Depends on the purpose of course~
@@JakeSloan Thanks for the reply! yes, blur is a "feature" of the camera, and is probably mostly aimed at "cinematic" users. IMO vlogging dos not need blurry background, we know what is the main subject, no need to separate it, and if the is to show around, blur is not really best. Only my opinion. for hiking, I used Pocket 1, then Pocket 2, when there was no action cam that I liked (did not like Action 1 and gopro). Now after using Action 2 and 3, have Action 4 and very happy with it. Action 3 was very good too. Still have Pocket 2 but do not use it much any more. I find it too long to switch on fully (align included) when need to quickly film on the fly. Keeping it for "low light".
How doea the pocket3 perform under low temperatures(-10℃)? Will the battery drain fast or something?this is the biggeat concern i have comparing to action 4.
Really like the three, But i want to vlog on my motorbike and adventure travels. As well as in the nightlife areas of southeast asia while walking around but for now can only afford one camera while starting my channel. Action 4 best all rounder?. Itravel in rainy season and rainfall is very heavy in the tropics and south east asia
I am going to keep my Action 4 for Mtn Biking and Motorcycle shots and use the Pocket 3 for vlogging and B-Roll. I think it's the perfect combo to have. I then have a Sony A7siii mirrorless for my office talking head shots.
Have both pocket 3 and Action 4. .... But no one mentions how weak the gimble is of the Pocket. It breaks quite fast. So be careful dont drop it or bump into people or things. Returned mine twice 😢😢. Action 4 way stronger. Drop it no problem

How is the frame rate options on these? Im going to use it combined it with NikonZ with 25 frame rate. Do you need a filter with the pocket camera?
great both have 25 and 50 fps options. I'd recommend ND filters for the the pocket 3 for sure

first make sure you are walking smoothly as that is important, ND filters will help some but walking smoothly will help the most.

Great review. Which do you suggest for an upcoming world tour. Mostly cities except for African safari. I’m bringing a 600mm lens bridge camera for stills (and shoots video) but it’s chunky and my iPhone -4 pro. Not sure which would compliment these for travel and which accessories needed. Thanks.

This is the comparison I wanted to see, and the Pocket 3 is the one to pick. My only concern is the battery life, since I am a beginner and most of the times it takes hours to finish a single video. the battery life is exceptional and you can easily keep it charged using a USB-c Battery bank

it is color wise but the action 4 doesn't have any shallow depth of field so it will always look a little different
@JakeSloan yes more color, I get there different cameras the 4 seems almost thicker if you get what I mean. So if you edit fro pocket3 to action4 as b roll its noticeable
dji products are amazing.i wonder why dji didn t develop an 1 inch sensor stacked compact vlog camera..market has many gaps in this easy to use area consumer friendly pocket cameras with a wide to short tele lens and a good battery life..regular features knowadays are 10 bit video,4k 50fps,phase detection, full sensor readout and an uhs ii slot.wishlist maybe but many amateurs want a small camera to express their moments easily and pros an everyday tool for creations.Excellent presentation as always, greetings from Greece

Hi, great comparison! But I have a question regarding the panorama photos. Does the OP3 utilizes the full sensor in taking each photos for panorama? And how's the final resolution size of the still photo?
it does and then stitches them together but you can also have it save the raw files so you can stitch them together later in post

I'm really torn between the 2. I like the FOV of the action 4. Is it possible to change the FOV setting of the pocket 3 to match what the 4 has? I'm going on a family vacation & I'm not sure which would be the best to purchase. This is one of the best videos that explains FOV. On the pocket 3 just to pickup & shot, In Your Opinion, how would you say it shoots as a general video camera?
you cannot change the FOV in the settings, but you can add the wide angle lens however the action 4 still has a much wider FOV in any of it's settings

Im looking for a camara to record my gym, daily and my golf rounds (this is probably where I will use more). I want something small and easy to carry. My first idea was the Pocket 3, do you think will work nice? Also I want to use the camara for my trips

I need a cam for youtube , some cinematic outdoor shots, gym shots and a webcam . which on would be better osmo pocket 3 or osmo action 4 . I need an all round camera since i have the budget for only one cam
I would get the pocket 3 UNLESS you plan to do stuff in bad weather (rain snow etc) or if you plan to wear the camera on you in the gym playing basket ball etc then I would get the action 4.

Why are you rotating the Pocket 3 for vertical? In the settings you can make the gimbal rotate for full resolution vertical footage

You cannot compare this 2 device! One is an action camera made for extreme sport also s*hit in low light and with electronic stabilisation! The other device is mechanical stab and better in low light.. the best is having them both and shoot on d-log so the clips matches . I have them both. 2 completely different devices. Nice review tho!🔥

Great review. As you say, they have different roles. I didn't think the low light footage from the action 4 wasn't at all bad and you could put it on a tracking gimbal like the holhem I steady to get the follow mode. Maybe I need both 😂

Interesting and the lines look "straight" as well even that coming from Action 4. It begs a question though: can you possibly compare the "dewarp" from Action 4 vs "linear" on GoPro 12?

@@JakeSloan thanks. I was thinking the same thing. But I have iPhone 11pro (old) and I don’t like the idea of trying to capture 20/30 mins of video and not needing to use my phone inbetween and iPhone can’t record and pause and then continue
i have already watched around 14 videos for this comparison between OP3 and OA4. To be concluded, if you shoot more on LOW LIGHT condition, be sure to take OP3. It will work better, lot better. But if you don't, I think OA4 would be sufficient and more practical (size and battery wise, since OP3 can't change battery like OA4).

Slightly but I believe it also depends on what features you have turned on
Thanks for the reply. When the battery handle is connected, both batteries 100%, camera turned off. When I next turn the camera on the handle is at 80%, camera still 100%.
So not sure if camera battery drained and was topped up by handle as it is designed to do or the handle battery drained.
Disconnected them last night and this morning both had lost just 1%, which is fine.
Now going to leave them connected for a similar length of time and see if them being connected is part of the problem.

Interesting that it will shoot 3072×3072 for 1:1 video or 3072×1728 16x9 mode which I am assuming is the vertical mode when holding the Pocket 3 vertically. I wonder what the sensor crop-factor is for this mode and if it's more-than or less-than the full 4K 3840x2160 mode.
I have mine on order right now so I guess I'll find out soon by testing if nobody answers me here.

I like your reviews. Pocket 3 looks great but I think it is a pity to intentionally blur these beautiful mountains in the background! Depends on the purpose of course~
it does depend on the purpose however the blur is due to lens design and physics, not something that can just be turned off
@@JakeSloan Thanks for the reply! yes, blur is a "feature" of the camera, and is probably mostly aimed at "cinematic" users. IMO vlogging dos not need blurry background, we know what is the main subject, no need to separate it, and if the is to show around, blur is not really best. Only my opinion. for hiking, I used Pocket 1, then Pocket 2, when there was no action cam that I liked (did not like Action 1 and gopro). Now after using Action 2 and 3, have Action 4 and very happy with it. Action 3 was very good too. Still have Pocket 2 but do not use it much any more. I find it too long to switch on fully (align included) when need to quickly film on the fly. Keeping it for "low light".
They really need to put that 1 inch sensor on next action camera...and it will be the best buy and also competition for insta 360 who have 1inch

The 20mm lens is a bit limiting, I have to get food video clips, I think it would probably distort the product.
the 20 actually has pretty minimal distortion but the wide lens adds a fair amount

How doea the pocket3 perform under low temperatures(-10℃)? Will the battery drain fast or something?this is the biggeat concern i have comparing to action 4.
Mine has been performing well but I think the action 4 will do better in cold
Really like the three, But i want to vlog on my motorbike and adventure travels. As well as in the nightlife areas of southeast asia while walking around but for now can only afford one camera while starting my channel. Action 4 best all rounder?. Itravel in rainy season and rainfall is very heavy in the tropics and south east asia

I am going to keep my Action 4 for Mtn Biking and Motorcycle shots and use the Pocket 3 for vlogging and B-Roll. I think it's the perfect combo to have. I then have a Sony A7siii mirrorless for my office talking head shots.

Have both pocket 3 and Action 4. .... But no one mentions how weak the gimble is of the Pocket. It breaks quite fast. So be careful dont drop it or bump into people or things. Returned mine twice 😢😢. Action 4 way stronger. Drop it no problem
