The TRUTH About Hasan Piker....

  • Hasan Piker is one of the most popular people on the internet right now, concurrenting over 50 THOUSAND live viewers over on the streaming platform on Twitch, with over a million subscribers on UA-cam. He is one of the most popular people on the internet, an e-celeb. But he originally was a politics guy. This turned off a lot of people who are mainly political heads, as he went into more pop culture stuff. But is this a good thing?
I've made videos criticizing Hasan Piker quite a bit in the past, but after viewing a few of his recent videos breaking down the Kai Cenat situation, as well as Andrew Tate, I've come to see that his content now (maybe always?) has lots of utility and quality. Here's the thing, we here in the political space are very insular with politics and away from pop culture stuff. I try to make it a goal to cover pop culture stuff because it affects all of us, there's no reason not to cover it, and it all comes back to politics. Here's the thing, he's uniquely different from a Kyle Kulinski, or a Sam Seder. He's an e-celeb, so his influence and audience transcends that of the echo chambers of one political side. Also, in the online space now (unfortunately), what everyone respects is CLOUT. If you have CLOUT, they respect you. Especially other content creators. So using his relations with people like Adin Ross or Bradley Martyn, he is able to influence them in a positive light, to use their influence more intelligently and correctly, as we can see with him talking to Bradley Martyn and Adin Ross about Andrew Tate.
He also puts out a lot of good messaging like about systemic misogyny and feminism etc, which reaches an audience that is mainstream and not echo-chambery and solely related to politics. This makes his influence MASSIVE. MASSIVE power. This makes him an overall really good force.
This also may just be a fallacy of anecdote, because I've only watched those two videos really, but an annoying thing about Hassan was that he would just spend his stream raging at dumb people in his chat. He seems to do less of that now, but again, I'm only basing that off of two of his videos, lol. Ethan Klein also has teamed up with him, doing the reverse, going from e-celeb to political commentator, which is also dope.
Overall, Hasan is a very good political force, that transcends political niche commentators like myself, Kyle Kulinski, or anyone else in the political scene, because he is watched by EVERYONE.

The way that I approach Hasan’s content is like hanging out with a friend, watching the news. Hasan is laidback and approachable, which goes well with streaming hours at a time. He explains more on Leftovers, but breaks down his explanations in a way where it doesn’t feel like he’s throwing terms around.
On his streams, he’s mostly reacting as things are unfolding. So it’s not the same as making a video after the fact. His most popular streams are when things are happening, and I think the appeal that he has is giving people someone to hang with when major things are happening.

I think Hasan does a good job talking about the “intellectual” stuff. I been in the chat long enough to see him talk about important issues and doing a good job describing it. I think the problem is that those are not the clip moments. It’s easy to just clip Hasan getting angry and acting crazy because that’s funny to many people. And that’s all the norms see and they just assume he’s just some crazy raging leftist dude. Also he streams to damn long, so that 20min conversation of “intellectual” chat gets lost in the 10hrs of streaming he does.
Also yes, it would get pretty boring and it’s pretty good he diversify his content throughout the day.

The draw of Hasan is that he doesn't present as an intellectual. Dude presents as a jock/bro. So you see him blow up at someone and people's lizard brain's kick in and are like "Yeah, get that moron!". That's just the hook though. The thing that Sahil has missed with not watching him all that much is that he also knows and educates on a lot of political theory. He just doesn't make a big deal of it a lot of the time.
So as Sahil alludes to, whilst you're hooked with the beat downs, he hits you with progressive ideology in an accessible way that perhaps makes you question your assumptions on things like the exploitation of labor under capitalism, trans people, sex workers, decoding dog whistles, issues to do with sexual assault etc.
Sahil presents as an intellectual and analyses as such while Hasan almost does the opposite by downplaying his intellect and pretending that he's a lot dumber than he actually is. So when you're hit with the progressive agit prop, you may be more receptive to it because you're not reflexively on the defensive.
Hasan's rage issues can sometimes make his content hard to watch but he's definitely a net positive for the progressive movement.

Which is a good thing in my opinion.
I also believe he is much more intellectual than you may realize even if he self depricates a lot. He could talk about the things you mentioned very easily but he makes strides in areas you wouldn't. So he goes with the flow where he works best.

The fact that he's seen as an attractive man makes him interesting to a lot of people.
I've known about him for years, because of TYT obviously, but it was when I saw Leftovers that I realized he's actually really smart and thoughtful.

I ended my apolitical nap when I started watching Kristina Maione who I wouldn't call a political commentator(despite her being a political philosopher) more like a social or cultural commentator but I needed that content to act like intermediary step as I went form apolitical to political

Most people don't know that Hasan was a very successful model who made a really good living doing that before he started working at TYT but the clothing industry is one of the most wasteful industries on the planet and that went against who he was as a person. Or maybe people do know, I don't watch him for hours at a time I don't have time to do that. But I will watch short 15 minute clips of him, I find he's very intelligent and well informed but when he has problems it's because he's commenting the minute it comes out. I really like the guy, I don't agree with the guy on everything but I don't think that's a bad thing. He's a legit voice for us on the left and I'm thankful he's got a huge following we've got a fight going on, on the internet with getting the younger generations to listen to the left over all the crap that's getting thrown at the younger generations from the right. The right has heavily financed operatives Shapiro, Crowder, Ruben and even Joe Roegan are all making great money spewing out hateful garbage and we need more people like Hasan who can reach the masses.

IMO, this era of “influencers” is kinda dangerous. Too many people online not thinking for themselves. There’s a thin line between enjoying ones content and becoming influenced by them. Can you see another’s point of view and reevaluate your own, sure. But should one allow a content creator influence our decisions or ideology? I’d say not.

    PEOPLE ARE DUMB!!
Yes but that doesn't make the truth of Marxist industrialisation incorrect.
Russia did industrialize and that helped them win against Germany which weakened it's own population (with the camps) fought a massive war on 2-3 fronts and followed a charismatic clown instead of a pragmatic leader.
Anyway everything looks like a nail sometimes sorry. I come from a military background but I say a strong prosperous nation is a key to military power even with peace through the lucrative offers of trade with prosperity instead of a doomed war.
I honestly don't know Marxism as well as I could but I know Marx and Engels knew simple and correct economic and social changes that could bring Germany to prosperity. The Krupp's did something like this although it was separate from marx's advice.
Anyway people can usually understand the gist of things even if they can't understand the specifics.
I'm short on a lot of specifics but I like to discuss in good faith.
I feel like Hassan pushes the needle in a much needed direction for social discourse despite his lack of pragmatism and specific knowledge.
