  • I purchased the Loricraft PRC 4 in 2016 and have cleaned around 1200 records so far. The unit is built like a tank, relatively quiet and totally analog! The Loricraft machines are modeled after the Keith Monk design and quite different from other vacuum type record cleaning machines. As seen in this video, the process is very manual, so if convenience is important, it may not be for you. However, the results are fantastic and don't take a lot of time to do a complete cleaning. I have no association with Loricraft, just a fan who wanted to share a demonstration of the machine's capabilities. For more information, see the loricraftaudio.co.uk website.

    Just picked up a loricraft with no reverse on the motor. After ultrasonic cleaning I basically use the LC for the rinse and vacuum cycle and it STILL pulls crap off the LP. The evidence is in the jar

      @JeffN-A that sounds like a great process. i’d like to add an ultrasonic at some point.

    Just a quick note to point anyone interested in the Loricraft vacuum cleaners to check out a demonstration video by TTVJ. It explains the process in better detail than I’ve done here, plus you get to see the latest version of the Loricraft line. ua-cam.com/video/Dl3-cnSINGA/v-deo.htmlsi=2urIroXtP6C4hz7X Are these machines expensive? Yes, but if you have a large collection of used vinyl and want to get the most out of them, sonically, and extend the life of your cartridge/stylus, it might be worth consideration. Thanks for watching!

    Do you clean all your records? I’ve never been big on using anything but a damp cloth or a brush. But I admit that I’m not brushing / cleaning most of my records. Thanks for sharing this. Shawn.

      Hey Shawn! I do clean all my records, even new ones due to paper dust and other debris that seems to always be there. New records don’t need the enzyme cleaning step. For used records that often have layers of dust, grime, fingerprints, etc. a good cleaning like this brings out fidelity previously masked by surface noise and crackle. The other benefit to cleaning is that the stylus gets less abuse and a prolonged lifespan. Showing the Loricraft machine here is kind of a niche within a niche within a niche, but the hands-on aspect of it is what makes it fun (for me) to clean records. It’s part of the ritual now. Once cleaned, that record will not need another cleaning for a very long time, if ever. Thanks for watching, looking forward to your forthcoming videos!

      Top work. I love my PRC4. I’ll certainly be giving this method a trial. Just a question, which enzyme clearer do you use? And also I note your cleaning machine has a hinged perspex lid, was the machine supplied with that or did you add it? Thanks.

      @@RobAtTheRocksmissed your message,so sorry for the delay. The enzyme cleaner I use is called “Vinyl-Zyme” Extra Strength made by Todd The Vinyl Junkie. His website is ttvjaudio.com. I think MoFi might also make an enzyme cleaner (and other manufacturers probably).

      @@RobAtTheRocksI chose the option to get the perspex lid at the time of purchase, not sure if it’s offered for all models or not. If you’re in the US, drop a line to Oliver Felibricio and he can help you with accessories and parts. I love my PRC4 too!

      It's intended for institutions. A machine like this would be great for libraries since it's nice and quiet.

    Would have been nice to have a before and after sound check! Without one how do we really know? You also need to learn how to remove the record as you re-contaminated with oils from hand...

    • @Russell.S
      @Russell.S  2 місяці тому

      yes, before and after sound samples would have been good. I may try that in the future. As for the record removal, I bungled that badly and hoped no one noticed. I usually use two hands and touch just the edges, but couldn’t manage that one-handed. It’s a good example of how not to remove a record. Thanks for your comment!

    Way way too many steps. I’ll just keep my move Delta sonic. Thank you very much for your demo and that’s cleaning one side. It looks like it takes almost fifteen minutes to twenty minutes to clean record on one side never gonna happen in this household. Thank you very much good luck.

      Hi Austin! Thanks for the comment. Yes, I wanted to show the process in “real time” to give a true representation of the process. The record in the demo was a kind of “worst case” in terms of cleaning, but new records requires fewer steps. It’s definitely not for everyone. I’ve learned to enjoy the routine, but it is time consuming. I hope to get an ultrasonic at some point to make it easier, but the vacuum cleaning will always be part of the process I think. Cheers!
