No major plans to post videos, just occasional things related to vinyl record collecting.
The American Indie Rock Brilliance Of The Vulgar Boatmen
The Vulgar Boatmen can be counted among the critically-acclaimed rock bands that should have been a massive pop success. Between 1989 and 1995 The Vulgar Boatmen released three stellar albums: You And Your Sister, Please Panic. and Opposite Sex. Merging classic Memphis soul, the Everly Brothers and Buddy Holly with The Velvet Underground and early REM, they forged a totally unique, modern sound that remains timeless. A fan for nearly 30 years, I hope that someone will hear these songs and be as moved by the music and lyrics as I am. I neglected to mention the Vulgar Boatmen compilation "Wide Awake" (CD only) but with only three records in the catalogue, you will want all the records if you like what you hear. Loricraft PRC4 Record Cleaning Demonstration
Переглядів 3,2 тис.Рік тому
I purchased the Loricraft PRC 4 in 2016 and have cleaned around 1200 records so far. The unit is built like a tank, relatively quiet and totally analog! The Loricraft machines are modeled after the Keith Monk design and quite different from other vacuum type record cleaning machines. As seen in this video, the process is very manual, so if convenience is important, it may not be for you. Howeve...
Rachel sent me. I subbed!!!
@Loki Tio send me here ❤
Thank you @IvanMusicMan, my favorite Norwegian vinyl guy!
Russ, fantastic presentation. Loved the roadtrip intro. You've done a great under-the-radar band justice with this. Enjoyed it very much - thanks!
Thank you @Loki Tio for the encouraging words and for the “Tio Bump (tm)” on RG! I hope more people discover the Boatmen as a result.
Just a quick note to point anyone interested in the Loricraft vacuum cleaners to check out a demonstration video by TTVJ. It explains the process in better detail than I’ve done here, plus you get to see the latest version of the Loricraft line. ua-cam.com/video/Dl3-cnSINGA/v-deo.htmlsi=2urIroXtP6C4hz7X Are these machines expensive? Yes, but if you have a large collection of used vinyl and want to get the most out of them, sonically, and extend the life of your cartridge/stylus, it might be worth consideration. Thanks for watching!
Just picked up a loricraft with no reverse on the motor. After ultrasonic cleaning I basically use the LC for the rinse and vacuum cycle and it STILL pulls crap off the LP. The evidence is in the jar
@JeffN-A that sounds like a great process. i’d like to add an ultrasonic at some point.
good first video, russell!
Thanks, Dave 👍
Yes!!! I’m also big Vulgar Boatmen fan! Love You and Your Sister and Please Panic! Need to get the 3rd album. Awesome live show too, saw them when I lived in Indianapolis in the 90’s! I have their CDs but might need to seek out the vinyl. Hope you do more music related videos. I’ve subbed. Take care. Matt
Thanks, Matt! I would love to see them live but seeing them in Indianapolis in the 90s must have been fantastic. Opposite Sex is good and worth it for “Wide Awake” alone. Thanks for subbing, too. I’ve got some videos coming hopefully soon. 👍
Saw this band many times at The Patio and The Vogue in Indianapolis. They were awesome! Personally, I like their second album, Please Panic, released in 1992. Check it out. The songs are great , especially, "You Don't Love Me Yet" and "Allison Says". Thanks for the video. You picked a great band.
Thank you, Scott. Please Panic is my favorite and the first album I heard back in the 90s. I’ve seen some live videos on UA-cam but would have loved to see them during the Please Panic period.
@@Russell.S Hi, Russell. Another great and highly underrated band to check out is The Toll from Columbus, Ohio. They were great but only put out two albums. I also saw them live many times in Indianapolis in the late 80’s and early 90’s.
I read a few reviews on the band in '89, I think one of them was in Option magazine...spent a good year trying to find the album in Los Angeles where I was living and then scored - been a fan since. Always reminded me a rootsy version of the Feelies, the Reivers with early Modern Lovers and "Loaded"-era Velvets, . Always been a bit more partial to "Please Panic" when I get in the mood to pull them off the shelf - but almost always pull *both* LPs, at the same time. (Don't think "Wide Awake" came out on vinyl....it's fairly strong but stands in the shade of the first two).
Spot on! I didn’t hear about them until Please Panic and that’s still my favorite too. Not until recently did I hear Opposite Sex and it’s a close third. “Wide Awake” is among my favorite Vulgar Boatmen songs. The compilation of the same name was CD-only. Thanks for watching.
Would have been nice to have a before and after sound check! Without one how do we really know? You also need to learn how to remove the record as you re-contaminated with oils from hand...
yes, before and after sound samples would have been good. I may try that in the future. As for the record removal, I bungled that badly and hoped no one noticed. I usually use two hands and touch just the edges, but couldn’t manage that one-handed. It’s a good example of how not to remove a record. Thanks for your comment!
Thank you for befriending Clownie, The Worlds ONLY Bonafide Hype Clown 🤡 Rachel's Ghost sent me!
Thanks, Clownie. Keep doing your thing. Good luck!
@@Russell.S thank u! 🤡❤️
This is idiotic...thing about it for a moment
Can you be a little more specific? What’s idiotic about it and what is a better way, in your opinion?
For 3500€ they have to send also someone to do all of this steps 😂😂
It's intended for institutions. A machine like this would be great for libraries since it's nice and quiet.
Do you clean all your records? I’ve never been big on using anything but a damp cloth or a brush. But I admit that I’m not brushing / cleaning most of my records. Thanks for sharing this. Shawn.
Hey Shawn! I do clean all my records, even new ones due to paper dust and other debris that seems to always be there. New records don’t need the enzyme cleaning step. For used records that often have layers of dust, grime, fingerprints, etc. a good cleaning like this brings out fidelity previously masked by surface noise and crackle. The other benefit to cleaning is that the stylus gets less abuse and a prolonged lifespan. Showing the Loricraft machine here is kind of a niche within a niche within a niche, but the hands-on aspect of it is what makes it fun (for me) to clean records. It’s part of the ritual now. Once cleaned, that record will not need another cleaning for a very long time, if ever. Thanks for watching, looking forward to your forthcoming videos!
Top work. I love my PRC4. I’ll certainly be giving this method a trial. Just a question, which enzyme clearer do you use? And also I note your cleaning machine has a hinged perspex lid, was the machine supplied with that or did you add it? Thanks.
@@RobAtTheRocksmissed your message,so sorry for the delay. The enzyme cleaner I use is called “Vinyl-Zyme” Extra Strength made by Todd The Vinyl Junkie. His website is ttvjaudio.com. I think MoFi might also make an enzyme cleaner (and other manufacturers probably).
@@RobAtTheRocksI chose the option to get the perspex lid at the time of purchase, not sure if it’s offered for all models or not. If you’re in the US, drop a line to Oliver Felibricio and he can help you with accessories and parts. I love my PRC4 too!
Way way too many steps. I’ll just keep my move Delta sonic. Thank you very much for your demo and that’s cleaning one side. It looks like it takes almost fifteen minutes to twenty minutes to clean record on one side never gonna happen in this household. Thank you very much good luck.
Hi Austin! Thanks for the comment. Yes, I wanted to show the process in “real time” to give a true representation of the process. The record in the demo was a kind of “worst case” in terms of cleaning, but new records requires fewer steps. It’s definitely not for everyone. I’ve learned to enjoy the routine, but it is time consuming. I hope to get an ultrasonic at some point to make it easier, but the vacuum cleaning will always be part of the process I think. Cheers!
