are there any scenarios where you would use method 1? Seems like the benefits of method 2 would always be worth the extra work. Maybe if you just need a texture or something like that as a background, then Method 1?
Method 1 is nice and quick. I would use this for textures or stock images that are purely decoration. E.g. business people shaking hands. Although, I would never use a stock image like that anyway :)
